Chapter 31: He Is So Interesting!
_____
"If you want to ask me when I knew it was you, it should be at the beginning."
He said these words lightly, but they carried a weight that made people feel both depressed and frustrated. Looking at Elric, Mellie's delicate expression betrayed a hint of "I am truly a failure."
"I say... since you knew it was me, why did you still go along with the act?"
"Oh, I thought you, Mellie, liked playing this game of being a silly and sweet girl, so I decided to cooperate a little."
Crack... crack... This time, it was the sound of a broken heart.
Although Mellie's expression didn't change, Elric could feel that a certain part of the person in front of him had utterly collapsed.
"You... you people... really make me more and more unhappy."
Angry. Completely angry.
While Mellie was a pure fun-lover, that didn't mean she was devoid of emotions. She simply had no interest in most things and rarely felt emotional fluctuations.
But being toyed with by Elric, as though she were nothing more than a monkey on display, made even her show traces of shame and annoyance.
"Alright, enough small talk. Since I've been recognized, there's nothing more to say."
After calming herself slightly, Mellie looked at Elric and gracefully performed a formal court bow.
"Mellie Ambrosius, the National Teacher of Camelot and the Nightmare from Avalon, greets you here, respected King Of Glory."
"Would you like to come to the palace now to meet my king, Uther?"
The anger that needed venting had been vented, and the business that needed handling still needed to be handled. Mellie knew that King of Glory's arrival in Camelot wasn't a trivial matter. Proper etiquette was a must.
Though the man in front of her didn't seem to care much for these formalities, who could predict what astounding words he might say next? After all, Glory was no longer the fledgling nation it had been two years ago. In just four years, this mythical city had grown into something so magnificent that everyone now looked up to it.
"Meet King Uther? No hurry, no hurry."
Shaking his head, Elric seemed indifferent to King Uther. Instead, he focused on something Mellie had said when introducing herself—Nightmare from Avalon. That caught his attention.
"So, does Vivian know Mellie?"
He thought back to when Vivian had wanted to tell him something about someone but ultimately kept silent. Now, looking at the frivolous and unreliable Mellie standing before him, Elric could guess what Vivian's concerns might have been.
She probably feared that Mellie's willfulness would provoke my anger.
Considering this in his heart, Elric found himself more curious about Mellie than about King Uther. He sat down once more and regarded the Nightmare with interest. Without hesitation, he asked, "Miss Ambrosius, compared to King Uther, I'm far more curious about your plan."
"Well... Britain's Red Dragon will sustain the country, and then defeat the White Dragon... isn't that right?"
Looking at Mellie with a smile on his face, Elric easily spoke words that sent a chill down the Nightmare's spine.

"Compared to King Uther, I'm actually more curious about your plan, Miss Ambrosius. That... well, the Red Dragon of Britain can sustain this country, right?"
Smiling, Elric knew full well what Mellie intended to do.
The Red Dragon, born from the mystery of Britain—Artoria, or Arthur.
The White Dragon, representing the Saxons—the usurper king, Vortigern.
For her own amusement and her desire to witness a story full of "beauty," Mellie deceived King Uther. She told him that as long as the Red Dragon was born, the White Dragon could be defeated, and Britain would flourish for eternity.
But…
She lied.
While it was true that Britain's Red Dragon could defeat the White Dragon, it could not stop the inevitable decline of mystery and the advancement of mankind. The Red Dragon was powerless against the march of progress.
This era was already doomed. It had already embarked on the path of death.
More than anything else, Mellie's grand lie was the most terrifying aspect.
Convinced that this mischievous and unpredictable woman would eventually become a stumbling block for him, Elric, who had no habit of leaving threats unchecked, felt compelled to act.
"Who… are you?"
Hearing Elric's words, Mellie realized the man before her truly understood her cooperation with King Uther. And she was certain that Uther hadn't divulged the secret of the Red Dragon's birth.
In Mellie's eyes, the future of this world was visible only to her through her EX-ranked clairvoyance.
How did Elric… know?
What was his purpose?
"Don't be so nervous, Miss Ambrosius."
Tapping the table lightly with his fingers, Elric smiled. "I have no ill intentions toward you."
Deciding to stop teasing Mellie, who was on the verge of losing her composure, Elric—who had completely seized the upper hand—continued, "I'm actually a visitor from another world."
"Another world?"
Her eyes lit up. Mellie, hearing Elric's seemingly absurd claim, felt for the first time that he was serious.
"A visitor from another world," Elricaffirmed. "And I came to Britain… to prolong this era."
"Prolong this era?"
"Yes."
"Hahaha… Are you serious?"
Hearing Elric declare his intention to sustain this world, Mellie couldn't help but laugh.
"I say, King Glory, since you already know about the Red Dragon and the White Dragon, you should also understand Britain's fate. I don't think you can make this world last."
"Even though you're strong, you're probably about the same level as King Vortigern right now. Not to mention…"
Mellie, still laughing, dismissed Elric's bold declaration.
But as she continued speaking, her laughter faltered. Looking into Elric's eyes, she suddenly realized something unsettling—the man in front of her was entirely serious. He truly believed he could sustain Britain.
He genuinely intended to defy the inevitability of the world's fate.
How dare he? How could he even think such a thing?
He… was truly fascinating!
