Chapter 73: A despotic flower (3)
“By the way, you get good grades at school?”
“Decent.”
“That means #1?”
“Em, not exactly. But usually within the top 5.” Song YiAn felt a bit awkward from Instructor Su’s sudden “interest” in his academic achievement.
Su Ran wasn’t really concerned about the male lead’s son. She, too, had no idea how the subject got there in their conversation.
Just top 5? That’s mediocre. Her Su Han took the #1 spot every time!
Su Ran felt very prideful. The sense of competition as a parent was burning.
“Oh yeah, I have one more question.”
“Yes? What is it, Instructor Su?”
“Say, what do boys your age like to get on your birthdays?”
Recalling the cool look on her son who frowned at this and that, Su Ran really couldn’t think of what to get him that he might like.
“What would we like?”
Song YiAn thought about it for a little bit, then he said, “Nothing in particular. Shoes, watch, or something along that line, I guess.”
“Big Brother, what you like is a video game console! I heard you telling Daddy Yang last time!”
“Ahem. But Instructor Su isn’t talking about me.”
“Oh.”
“Okay, Instructor Su, I am done playing this piece. I just feel there something wasn’t right about it,” said Song ZhiNing with a frown.
Hearing that, Su Ran became serious as well.
“Do you feel that it felt awkward somewhere in the middle?”
“Yes! That’s exactly how I felt. Why was it?”
“Winnis, the composer of this piece, was a farmer before he became a pianist. The time he spent as a farmer caused the index finger in his right hand to not be as responsive as it should be. So when he played, he’d skip half a beat at every node. Many others who played his songs would pause intentionally at these spots but that was completely unnecessary.”
“Oh, I see!” Song ZhiNing felt that she had learned something new. This was a first time she had heard anything like this from an instructor and she felt that it made a lot of sense.
“So what exactly can I do? I still don’t get it.”
“Let me play it once and you’ll see.” Having said that, Su Ran walked in front of the piano.

On the other end, inside the Song’s study, Song ZeYu handed an USB drive over to Lu Shao.
“I only have what I needed in this clip. I don’t know if Mr. Lu will find this helpful.”
Song ZeYu didn’t know why the authority figure of the Lu’s wanted to investigate what happened at Huating Hotel that night at first. But his assistant whom he sent to look into the incident had just gotten back to him. It’d seem a side branch of the Lu had also done something to Lu Shao on that same night.
Mr. Lu: I like how conceited you are.
“That’s fine,” said Lu Shao as he put away the USB drive.
All of a sudden, a cheerful and melodious sound from a piano came over from the house across from them.
There had been piano sound earlier as well but this time it was completely different.
It was the same piece, but the feel was different.
“Did you hire a pianist?” asked Lu Shao with his brows raised, looking at Song ZeYu.
Lu Shao wasn’t someone who’d normally care about something like that, but this piece of music was able to calm him down and make him feel peaceful. That wasn’t something that’d happen every day.
“I think that’s my children’s new piano instructor. I heard that she is very good.”
Song ZeYu paused for a second, then seeing that Lu Shao had nodded, he asked again, “Are you interested in going over and taking a look, Mr. Lu?”
“No need,” said Lu Shao concisely.
Right when Song ZeYu felt that this Mr. Lu was already done with this conversation, Lu Shao started again.
“Give me the contact information of this pianist,” said Lu Shao.
His insomnia seemed to have gotten worse after he had returned to City B.
“Sure. No problem.”
“Send it over to my cellphone,” said Lu Shao as he got up. “If there’s nothing else, I am going to take off.”
“Ugh, okay, Mr. Lu. I will walk you out.”
Lu Shao expressed that that would not be necessary, but Song ZeYu still insisted on walking him to the door.
