Chapter 28
Yanna and Vanessa successfully saved points as planned and emerged as the 1st place within one week after the release of the second episode of the survival show.
Celebrating their victory, they decided to spend some points.
"Congratulations to us! If we keep going like this, we will definitely win the prize," Yanna exclaimed.
Out of nowhere, Vanessa asked, "Do you have any plans after this show?"
"I plan to lay low or find another job since my contract with the company ends next week, even before the show concludes," Yanna replied.
"Don't you consider finding another company? I believe you have potential; it's just that people don't see it," Vanessa suggested.
"Nah, I want to take some rest and think about my next steps," Yanna replied.
"Wait, did you just say that your contract will be over next week?" Vanessa asked, a hint of nervousness in her voice.
"Yes," Yanna replied.
"Then, will you continue to stay here?" Vanessa asked, growing increasingly concerned.
"I haven't discussed it with the production team," Yanna admitted.
"Then we should talk to them tomorrow," Vanessa suggested.
"Okay," Yanna agreed, smiling at the distracted Vanessa.
"What are you thinking, Vanes?" Yanna asked.
Vanessa took a deep breath and tried to calm down, shaking her head in response to Yanna's question.
"There's no need to worry; we're still going to win the $100,000, right?" Vanessa reassured herself.
"Yes," Yanna replied, holding Vanessa's hand to help her calm down and relax.
Inside their Turtle Shack, Vanessa seemed unusually clingy. When Yanna asked her about it, Vanessa remained silent. Feeling hopeless, Yanna decided to let her be.
In the middle of the night, Yanna woke up abruptly, breathing heavily and drenched in sweat. She placed her hand on her heart and closed her eyes. After calming down, she recalled the contents of the dream that had disturbed her.
'Dang! The male protagonist is about to appear! Urgh... How did I forget that I'm just a side character here? And what's up with my dream? Could it be a premonition? No, that can't be true, right? Urgh... Tomorrow, I hope it's just a dream. But if it really happens, then I-'
Yanna fell silent, clenching her hand into a fist.
'The male alpha who will be with the female protagonist will come. If there is someone who can protect Vanessa and take care of her, it's him—Oliver Marvin,'
Yanna thought, feeling emotional even though it was just a dream. However, her intuition told her that it might become a reality.
Yanna's character died early in the book because she unintentionally offended the female protagonist, resulting in the male protagonist hating 'her'. He asked the production team to remove her from the show and, in exchange, offered to participate and become Vanessa's partner.
'She', who wanted to win the prize money, felt frustrated and unsure of what to do. 'She' had hoped to use the money to start anew, but everything was ruined by the misunderstanding between her and Vanessa, which the male protagonist didn't know about. Eventually, 'She' perished in a car accident during a heavy rainstorm as she aimlessly walked through life.
Frustrated by the mere thought of what might happen, Yanna was not scared but worried about Vanessa.
"Urgh... I want a drink right now," Yanna expressed her longing.
"What for?" Vanessa inquired.
Hearing Vanessa's voice, Yanna felt flustered but quickly composed herself.
"Why did you wake up?" Yanna asked.
"I couldn't sleep without you by my side," Vanessa replied, moving closer to Yanna. She had trusted her intuition this whole time and didn't want to regret sleeping that night.
Observing Yanna, She looked closely and noticed that she didn't look good, as if she had experienced a nightmare. Vanessa expected Yanna to notice her presence, but it seemed that Yanna was genuinely troubled.
Yanna went outside, with Vanessa secretly following her, still unnoticed.
Disliking seeing Yanna frustrated and distressed, Vanessa decided to talk to her and keep watching over her.
"I had a nightmare," Yanna finally confessed.
"What did you dream about?" Vanessa asked.
Yanna tried to speak but no words came out. She didn't want to lie, but she didn't know how to express herself.
"Just be honest with me, Yanna," Vanessa encouraged.
After a while, Yanna mustered up the courage to share her dream.
"I had a nightmare. In that dream, I was pulled out of this show, and someone else replaced me. The thought of that bothers me," Yanna explained, concerned about the potential repercussions.
"Maybe something bad will happen," Vanessa confirmed, leaving Yanna shocked by her agreement.
"I'll go talk to the director now," Vanessa declared.
"Huh? But-" Yanna started to respond.
"No 'buts,' Yanna. I won't feel at ease if we just stay here. If anything similar to your dream happens, then I'm leaving too," Vanessa interrupted, determined to take action.
"What? Are you crazy?" Yanna asked in disbelief.
"Yes, I am, Yanna. I can sense that you're not telling the whole story, but I believe you. You wouldn't be so frustrated and troubled if it were just a dream," Vanessa explained.
"I... Vanessa, ahh... geez... Why are you so good to me?" Yanna was at a loss for words. No one else had trusted her as much as Vanessa did.
She hugged Vanessa tightly and closed her eyes under the moonlit sky.
Vanessa hugs her back tightly too
"Whatever happens, Vanessa, whether I can stay or not, nothing will change between us. If you still consider me your friend after this show, you can call me anytime," Yanna assured her.
"No.. Fine" Vanessa protested.
"I feel better when you say that. Remember, I'll be watching you from outside the show. To win this game without me," Yanna insisted.
"Why are you saying all this? How are you so sure it will happen?" Vanessa asked, confused by Yanna's certainty.
"Just in case, Vanes. Here, this is my number. No one else knows it; only you memorize it and then burn it," Yanna instructed, handing Vanessa her phone number.
"Yanna," Vanessa whispered, feeling that Yanna was being unfair. What about her own feelings?
"Still, let's talk to them now," Vanessa proposed, and this time Yanna agreed, allowing Vanessa to take the lead.
