Chapter 16
Yanna let go of her hand and sat up, trying not to laugh and change the topic.
"Thank you, by the way, did you make those thatches?"
"I made them. Is it too little?"
"No, it's quite a lot. Let's build the foundation first. I'll get the other woods I left."
"Okay."
_________
Yanna and Vanessa cooperated very well, while Alice and Matthew stood where Yanna's company stayed yesterday.
"Should we look for them?" Matthew asked carefully. He could feel the gloom around Alice, which intimidated him.
Alice smiled as if nothing happened.
"We don't have to. They will come back later. Look, Vanessa left a message."
Alice said calmly, but Matthew felt uncomfortable with this atmosphere.
Alice felt uncomfortable inside. She didn't expect them to move. If she hadn't seen the note written on the ground, she would have thought they ran away.
Matthew looked at the map while Alice kept herself quiet, waiting for someone.
Matthew stood up, planning to talk to Alice, but when he saw her expression, he held it back.
'Why is she making that face? She looks so sad and disappointed. Who made her do that face? Is she that disappointed not to see them?'
Matthew retreated and cleared his throat to get Alice's attention.
*cough* *cough* "Alice, how about we look around while waiting for them?"
"Yeah."
They looked around but didn't find any bags. Matthew felt disappointed and started to pant from exhaustion.
Alice didn't notice at first because she was still distracted, but when she turned around and saw Matthew looking exhausted and weak, she came back to her senses.
She went to Matthew's side and dragged him to sit under the tree.
She couldn't apologize for not looking after Matthew because she knew him a little now, and he wouldn't like being treated like porcelain.
"Let's rest here first, then let's go back."
"Are you okay now?"
Matthew asked, and Alice raised her eyebrows, pretending she didn't understand.
"Earlier, you looked... disappointed."
"Ahh~. I'm fine now. I was just disappointed because I thought we could eat earlier. Sorry about that."
"It's still early. If you're hungry, we still have food here."
"No, let's go back now. It might be noon now."
Matthew finally breathed a sigh of relief, seeing her back to normal.
-----
Yanna and Vanessa started to put the fish into big leaves.
When they returned to their previous location, they saw Alice and Matthew coming from the other side.
Yanna greeted the two of them with her gentle smile.
"You guys came just in time. Look what we have here."
Alice stared at Yanna and then turned her head to meet Vanessa's eyes. She smiled and nodded her head, then went to Yanna.
"Wow~ Is this grilled tuna? It looks good."
Alice put the grilled fish and fillet in the middle, while the others started to put the fruits. Alice also took out something from the bag – four pairs of chopsticks.
"Chopsticks? Did you make them?" Vanessa asked while Matthew looked at the chopsticks.
"When did you make them?" he asked too.
"It's not a big deal. Last night, when I couldn't sleep, I thought of making them. They're easier to make than a spoon and fork. Do you guys know how to use them?" Alice explained while distributing the chopsticks.
If you look closely, you'll see carvings on each chopstick. Matthew noticed it and asked Alice.
"It's nothing. 'A' is for Alpha, and 'O' is for Omega," she said, sneakily peeking at Yanna to observe her reaction.
"I think you have a talent for wood carving. Look how smooth they are, and their simple design looks cute too. I thought you exchanged points for them," Yanna praised.
She could also do wood carving a little, so she knew that Alice put a lot of effort into making them, especially if it was her first time.
Alice smiled at the compliment.
"No, you're exaggerating," but her lips just couldn't stop smiling.
"Aren't you being humble right now? Come on now, Ms. Don. Where's the domineering class president?" Yanna teased Alice, seeing her in this joyful state.
While Yanna and Alice were having fun, Vanessa, on the other hand, kept herself quiet. Matthew compared his chopstick with the others and, for some reason, he noticed that Yanna's chopstick was a little more beautiful.
He frowned and shook his head, trying not to think too much. After all, they all looked the same.
Vanessa, who was silent, was having her inner drama again. She observed them from the moment she saw how Alice smiled brightly at Yanna.
Yanna may not be aware of it, but she could tell how Alice was getting closer to Yanna while they were eating. She couldn't help but feel uncomfortable. What if Yanna got closer to Alice too? Would Yanna still be nice to her?
It's rare for her to get real friends and attention like Yanna gives her. She didn't want Yanna to forget about her and be left out again. But she also knows that monopolizing someone is wrong.
'Does Ms. Don like Yanna? Wait. No, they are both Alphas, why did I suddenly think about linking, but these two don't act like Alphas at all.'
'No, maybe they just missed each other? That's right! They just missed each other... each other?'
Vanessa's face was full of black lines, and Yanna who noticed it was shocked.
'What is she thinking again this time?'
Yanna turned her attention to Vanessa and patted her hand. Vanessa looked at her and saw her beautiful eyes and attractive smile. Her brain stopped thinking for a second as she tried to calm herself.
"What's wrong?"
"Are you okay? Don't you like the food?"
"No, I just remembered that we need to go back soon."
Vanessa didn't understand why she said that, but all she could think of was to drag Yanna away from Alice, or else she wouldn't feel at ease.
Yanna believed what she said, as there was no other possible reason for Vanessa to be upset or angry.
