'It seems as if it's been a lifetime' I smiled to myself as I walked down the path leading to the city.
The duchess had already cleared off the dirt and blood from her armor and was walking just slightly in front of me while Ella was to my right and Nessa to my left, They were my companions that had been with me since I was given this responsibility and I couldn't help but feel warmth being surrounded by them.
'It's times like these I remember meeting everyone' I sighed glancing to my right at Ella whose footsteps were silky with no room for error.
Ella was my childhood friend who had grown up with me in the same village, Living right next door. We spent years playing around basically every day and our parents even talked about us getting engaged although back then we both found such talks embarrassing.
Back then Ella wanted nothing more then to be a knight even if it was almost impossible to a achieve, While other girls her age were learning how to take care of their future husbands Ella was swinging the wooden sword she had saved up for. Me on the other hand I was content with taking over my father's business making horse saddles, It's not that I didn't have big dreams it was just that I was realistic even at a young age.
On my thirteenth birthday was the day that a company of knights surrounded my home, I was terrified at the time as my eyes laid on a gorgeous and mature women getting off a white horse. She truly was enough to make my heart race even in the situation we were in, Perhaps it was her noble aura or the way the knights bowed as she walked I couldn't help but be wondered by her.
"I'm Duchess Alexia of house Bower it's a honor to meet the hero" It was even more surprising when the Duchess kneeled down on one knee and bowed her head respectfully.
Duchess Bower was a famous name even for us commoners who couldn't keep up with all the political news. She was known as the Kingdoms best swordsman with many calling her 'The Duchess of War', With a miraculous record of never losing a battle and even having enough power to rival the king she was a women who could only be said to be near the peak of the world.
My mother at the time was horrified even after we were given an explanation on what was happening, I was left wide eyes staring at the gorgeous Duchess who shot me a soft smile while My mother and father started crying. Was it tears of joy that their son had been chosen by the goddess for something so noble or tears of agony with the responsibility he was given, Perhaps it was both.
"Come with me to Bower Hero" The Duchess held out her hand but I hesitated taking it before I heard a voice shout out.
"Take me as well!" The voice belonged to Ella who sprinted and stood in front of me protectively.
Her parents were horrified trying to get past the knights to stop her and yet the girl her self wore a unwavering face as she stood across from the famous Duchess, The knights started to move but The Duchess raised her hand as she looked down at Ella with narrowed eyes.
"You train with the sword?" She asked seeing the wooden sword handing at her side while Ella could only nod in response.
"I see" The Duchess smile before she looked at me and gave me what I thought was a teasing look.
"I can't separate such a lovely couple" She said making my face flush and I say Ella's ears turn slightly red as well.
That was how me and Ella left our small village behind and went with The Duchess to her domain. What followed was two years of hard training which led me to believe that the Duchess was actually a Demon in disguise, Ella was the hardest worker between us always training and saying she would stand by my side.
After being officially crowed as the Hero by the king himself we officially set off on our fated journey. It was around this time that we saved a Young elven girl who had been captured by illegal slave traders, That elf had turned out to be the only daughter of the Elf queen Nessa.
It turns out that she was a incredible mage who's magic far surpassed many we had seen, The only reason she had even caught was because she was a innocent and sheltered girl who knew nothing of the real world. I had decided to let her stay with us as a member of the party despite Ella seeming to not like the idea.
That was how the hero's party had been established.
'If only we had a few male members' I could only sigh at the thought.
