"She hasn't seen me" I thought narrowing my eyes as I slowly backed up trying not to make a sound.
'Damn' It was times like this I cursed myself for not learning an invisibility spell.
"Oh?" I flinched as her ears twitched and I tried to bolt but it was too late as our eyes met.
"I didn't expect to see you so soon little runt" Scarlett smirked resting her sword on her shoulder with her hand on her wide hip
"How are you Scarlett?" I asked trying to act calm and offering a weak smile as I tried not to look at her glistening muscular body.
"Better now that you're here" She smirked and the predatory look in her eyes made me more than a little uncomfortable.
"Spar with me" Scarlett said moving her arm and pointing her sword straight at me.
"We haven't even had a proper conversation yet" I sighed rubbing my face and discreetly looking for a way to escape.
"Conversations are meaningless between us" She replied raising an eyebrow before giving me a teasing gaze.
"We used to spar for hours without saying a word" Her words made my bones feel a phantom pain that I hadn't felt in a very long time.
'…' It was more like hours of her beating the crap out of me while I tried not to scream to loud.
"Don't tell me the hero who defeated a demon general is scared of a little old girl like me?" She smirked and my eye twitched in both annoyance and disbelief.
"Little girl my ass" I muttered under my breath wondering what part of her exactly was little.
"…Fine" I sighed knowing there was no way out of this and i had been planning to train anyway.
"Just once" i quickly added not wanting to sign up for an afternoon torture season by the hands of a vicious fox women.
"Good!" Scarlett's excitement was clear and her ears twitched as she moved to the center of the yard.
"No mana as always" She reminded me with a grin as if I had forgotten the rules that were placed upon us.
I shook my head as my feet carried me to the nearby rack and I grabbed a basic steel sword, It's familiar weight felt natural in my hand. I let the blade fall to my side as I gazed at Scarlett and walked in her direction standing across from her.
'It's been a while' I thought feeling my body tremble with slight anticipation that I hadn't felt in a while.
The fact was even with the strength and abilities that was granted to me as the hero, swordsmanship was still a skill that required practice. There were many sword masters in the empire and a few of them could best me in a fight based on pure swordsmanship, Scarlett was one of those few.
Her story was well known to me thanks to the Duchess.
Scarlett was a war orphan forced to take up the sword for survival after her village was destroyed by human slave traders, She killed thousands earning the nickname bloody fox which I thought was kinda lame although i wouldn't tell her that to her face since she seemed to like it.
She eventually became one of the youngest sword masters in the empire and after losing to the Duchess in a duel she swore loyalty to her. In all honesty I didn't know how old she was with the last time I asked resulting in me being pummeled harder than normal, Although it was obvious she was in her late twenties.
'Kept calm' I reminded myself and I wasn't planning on losing today taking a deep breath.
"Your move runt" Scarlett smirked lifting her sword to her side pointing toward the ground.
