Chapter 454 Dual Personality?
Dave was quite well aware that he wouldn't be able to drive himself home safely but for some reason, he was trying to convince Mateo that he could do it.
Fortunately, the winger was not careless enough to just let him drive himself home in his condition.
"Hey, what are you on about? I can drive myself home."
He was trying to pull the door open here but Mateo held his hand against it firmly to prevent him from doing that.
"No, you can't, just get in my car so I can drive you home, that's the only way you can get home safely."
<Come on, Dave, you have to try to think straight>
Catherine had been trying for quite a while now to get her message across to him and see if he would come back to his senses, but for some reason, he wasn't hearing her or maybe he was just pretending not to.
"I don't understand your problem with me, I already told you that I'm going to be fine." He responded before suddenly giving the door a heavy pull.
Mateo had to make use of his other hand to stop him from opening the door.
The worst part about this situation was that most of their teammates were already gone and the few that were still in the area were inside taking care of some things.
"I know you're not in your right mind, Dave but you have to listen to me, if you get into that car in your condition, you may end up getting in an accident."
"And so what?"
"Huh? You have a wife and an unborn child at home for crying out loud."
The goalkeeper suddenly let out a gasp before quickly letting go of the door.
Those words kept ringing in his ear forcing him to stagger away from the car a little with his hand on his forehead.
Mateo used that opportunity to quickly lock the car before sliding the key into his pocket.
"What am I even doing?" He muttered under his breath.
The winger let out a sigh of relief before he slowly made his way to him and put his arm around his shoulder.
"Don't worry about it, just let me take you home." He offered.
This time, there was no resistance from Dave and he was glad about that as he took him to his car and put him in the backseat before quickly getting in the driver's seat.
Dave was now in the backseat with his hand still on his forehead as he was trying to recall what just happened a few minutes ago.
Mateo turned the key to start the engine and was about to move out when he heard him mutter something from the back.
"Hey, Mateo."
"Huh?" He responded before turning his gaze to him.
"I feel like I said things I shouldn't have said." He said before shaking his head.
"Don't worry about it, you just need some rest and you'll be back to your old self."
<I don't even understand what's wrong with you, there's no damage to your brain, it's quite appalling>
'Me too, Cat but the doctor said I needed to get some rest so maybe that has something to do with it, I just don't hope I don't lose it again before we get home.'
The drive home was uncomfortable for him just like the drive from Black Roz to Unique City but getting home from the Wondanimo stadium wasn't a long drive so he didn't have to go through that for long.
Mateo had to get the house control from him to open the gate and drive into the house.
The winger parked his car on the side after driving into the area, and after stopping the engine he quickly opened the door to jump out from the car.
Emma happened to be outside at that time, and as soon as she saw the gate open and the car drive in she quickly made her way to the area.
"Mateo?"
She was quite surprised to see that her brother was the one that drove in.
"Oh, hey, sis." He responded before he stretched his hand to open the door for Dave and let him out.
"Is Dave…."
She had to pause in between that statement as soon as she saw Dave emerge from the car with his hand stuck on his forehead and his only visible eye shut.
"No." She muttered before covering her mouth with her hands.
He was staggering so Mateo had to help get him inside.
Emma just stood there with a horrid look on her face as the two walked past her but she had to follow them inside soon.
As soon as Mateo got into the house with him, he quickly made his way to the couch and slowly dropped him there.
Emma made her way into the room soon after and quickly made her way to her husband.
"I saw all the blood, but I didn't know it was going to put him in this state." She muttered before squatting down beside him.
"Don't worry, he'll be okay, the doctor said he just needs some rest and he'll be okay," Mateo explained. "However, I think one of his screws has been displaced."
"Huh?"
"He wanted to drive himself home."
As soon as she heard him say that, she let out a gasp before turning her gaze to her husband.
"In his condition?"
"Yeah, I had to force him to drive him home."
"Oh, Mateo, thank you so much."
"What are you two blabbing about?" The goalkeeper voiced abruptly before removing his hand from his face to see Emma staring at him. "Oh, hi, um…"
"It's your wife." She uttered.
"Oh, yeah, and what was your name again?"
"You forgot my name?"
"Yeah, I guess it sort of happened." He replied before quickly covering his eye with his hand and leaning back on the couch.
She expected him to bring his face down to continue their conversation but he just stayed like that.
"You see what I'm talking about?" Mateo said as soon as his sister turned her gaze to him. "It's like he has a dual personality now."
"Yeah, this is really worrying." She replied before slowly turning her gaze back to him to see that he still had his head leaned back. "Did he suffer brain damage or something?"
"No, I don't think so, or else the doctor would have mentioned it." He replied. "Hopefully, he will get better tomorrow."
"I hope so." She muttered with a voice of concern before getting up on her feet.
"Yeah. Anyway, I have to get going now."
Before he could take a step toward the door, she quickly moved closer to him and wrapped her arms around him.
"Thank you so much, you're the best brother ever."
"Hey, no need to get all sappy now, Dave's like a brother to me you know."
"Yeah, that's why you're the best brother." She muttered with a frail voice.
He was trying to get out of her grip at first, but now he just let go to let her hug to her satisfaction.
Hugging him for comfort was something she used to do when they were younger even though he was the younger sibling.
After that, she had to see him off, and now that he was gone, she returned to the house to find Dave in the same position.
She slowly laid him straight on the couch to avoid making any contact with him, and after that, she just sat down on the couch, tilted her head to the side with her hand holding it in place, and was about to drown in her thoughts when she heard him mutter something.
"I love you, Emma."
She slowly turned her gaze to him as a smile suddenly appeared on her face amidst her worried gaze.
"I love you too."
"A Ballon d'Or? Yeah, I would love to have one."
"And you might get one." She muttered before slowly turning her gaze away from him.
