Chapter 7
“Get through it, that is your destined fate.”
One day while watching YouTube, I unexpectedly stumbled upon a rather cringeworthy game advertisement.
“Oh, this must be that hot new subculture mobile game that just came out in Korea. It looks like it’s finally here.”
I had caught a glimpse of it before, and overall, the character visuals seem decent. The problem is that this type of domestic game has always taken a truckload of criticism and notoriously relied on sheer confidence in its sales.
This time, though, they should avoid that pitfall.
Click.
On a whim, I decided to search for ‘Last Destiny’ on a portal site, and a slew of related articles popped up, so I clicked on one.
【SV Studio’s development, ‘Last Destiny’ finally launching】
SV Studio’s development project, ‘Last Destiny,’ is finally launching.
Having faced financial difficulties, SV Studio received funding from ‘Changseong Culture’ under the Changseong Group on June 28 last year, which propelled the halted development forward.
The Changseong Culture side stated, “For the advancement of culture in the future, game development will also be a cornerstone, and this is a long-term investment for that,” while supporting various game developers outside of Changseong Studio.
‘Last Destiny’ is a collection-based RPG rooted in subculture, aiming to attract the attention of gamers through aggressive marketing targeted at internet broadcasters.
According to the overall director, PD Kim Jae-min…
Looks like this game was funded by the well-known Changseong.
Speaking of aggressive marketing, I’m already getting envious of the streamers who’ll be getting advertisements. A small-time streamer like me will probably never get such offers.
“Nyaang.”
With a bittersweet taste, I sat on the sofa when a pure white British Shorthair cat approached me.
The protagonist of my household, whom I can call my master, is named Woo-yu. He’s the only source of joy in my solitary life.
“Okay, Woo-yu. Want some churu?”
“Nyaang.”
Did he come to me today too for churu? He patted the cabinet where it’s stored, and his eyes sparkled with excitement.
He has quite the appetite, considering his small size.
Snip.
I took out one churu stick, which is the maximum allowance for one day, and opened the package with scissors.
The strange smell rising from it still didn’t sit well with me, but it seems Woo-yu doesn’t mind.
He stared at me with a threatening gaze, as if to say that if I didn’t hand it over soon, there would be bloodshed. I flinched and squeezed out the contents.
“Alright, here you go.”
Chomp, chew.
The sound echoed as Woo-yu gobbled up the churu every time I squeezed more out.
Anyone might think he’s been starving for days. This little guy eats his regular food just fine too.
After playing with Woo-yu for a bit, he seemed to lose interest first, and I returned to my bedroom and workspace to boot up my computer.
I’ve always felt that keeping my bedroom and workspace separate is better. Otherwise, it just makes the place look messier, and space efficiency drops significantly.
The problem is that I use one small room as both a study and a closet, which makes things quite difficult. I’m seriously considering moving.
“……”
Lost in thought over this little dilemma, I glanced at the mail that had arrived today, and one subject stood out.
The sender was ‘SV Studio,’ the very game development company I had seen mentioned in that ‘Last Destiny’ article. Why are they emailing me?
I felt a twinge of hope, but reminded myself to stay calm, as I opened the content.
Soon after,
“Waaaaah!”
A scream-slash-gasp escaped my lips.
*
『‘Cosmo’ has started broadcasting.』
“I just got my first sponsorship!!!!!”
My heart swelled just reading the title, but first, I composed myself and waited for the viewers to join my stream.
【CosmoMustBeProtected】- Koha
【Kokkiyaho】- Koha
【WhirlwindFlower】- Is this real?
【KindThoughts】- What kind of ad did you get???
As expected, besides the usual viewers greeting me, many immediately asked about the advertised content in the title.
Feeling a bit puffed up with pride, I decided to chat a bit while waiting for more viewers to join.
“Okay, settle down. I’ll explain slowly.”
【‘NextDoorHani’ donated 1,000 won.】
– The broadcaster is puffing up after getting an ad, give him a downvote lol, I’ll be the first
【OctopusSukhwa】- It’s okay
【WhiteForest】- Downvote lol
【DidYouKnowSandwiches?- You can’t tell him to calm down while being the least calm yourself lol
Ah, these guys are ruining what should be a joyful day with their jokes.
But today, I’ll let it slide with a generous heart. As mentioned in the title, today, I’ve received my very first advertisement.
【‘CosmoMustBeProtected’ donated 10,000 won.】
– What kind of ad did you get? Congrats anyway.
“Oh, thank you for the ten thousand won donation. As a matter of fact, I was just about to tell you.”
As I prepared to express my gratitude towards the chairman for his ten thousand won donation, a chat notification popped up.
【Kokkiyaho】- Did you get the Last Destiny ad? It’s been buzzing lately.
“Oh, that’s right! How did you guess?”
【PleaseBePositive】- There’ve been a lot of articles, yeah.
【WhiteWhiteWhite】- I saw it as soon as I went to YouTube, seriously lol
【BINGO】- They said they’d do aggressive marketing through internet broadcasts, looks like they handed out ads right away.
Aha, it seems everyone saw the articles I did. Given how flooded the internet was with this info, it’d be stranger if no one had seen it.
Thanks to that, I had less explaining to do.
“So you found out from the articles, huh? I thought they installed a hidden camera in my house. Whoa, what a shock.”
【tws2425】- Who would install a hidden camera in your house?
【DinnerJustHadWokenUp】- For real lol
【ArisaLovesIt】- Would there be an opportunity to lose your eyesight?
“These guys….”
While it’s frustrating, I can’t deny it’s the truth.
Let’s compete fair and square with persuasion and fabrication, you cheeky folks.
“Well, although I was a bit surprised that someone guessed correctly, I’ll give you a brief explanation. There’s going to be an advertisement broadcast next Friday!”
Considering it’s an advertisement broadcast, I shifted from my usual informal speech to a more formal tone infused with the spirit of capitalism, and a flurry of congratulatory messages flooded the chat.
【Kokkiyaho】- Oh
【Moscos】- Congrats
【Cro-Magnon】- Congrats
【That’sItCosmo…】 – Have you finally gone corporate?
“No way, what corporate? Let’s stop drinking kimchi soup like that, alright?”
I calmed down the excited viewers and displayed the image I received via email. It was the promotional poster for the mobile game ‘Last Destiny,’ which I had seen in the article earlier.
“Anyway, as expected, I received an advertisement for ‘Last Destiny,’ developed by SV Studio. I screamed as soon as I saw that email!”
【CosmoMustBeProtected】- You must be really happy!
“Oh, of course! Who would’ve thought that a small-time streamer like me would get an ad?”
After all, advertisements are efforts to reach more people. From the ad agency’s perspective, they’re typically looking for more famous celebrities or streamers with large audiences.
Of course, it’s not just me receiving this ad; other streamers probably got offers too, but it’s enough joy to know that I made that list.
This is just my speculation, but perhaps the Twip Party played a significant role in this.
Though it appeared like a regular party, those invited were acknowledged streamers that the Twip platform saw potential in.
For outsiders, it would also serve as a good means to filter for advertisers looking for talent.
Is this what they call double happiness?
“Most importantly, the advertisers really seemed to know me well. They’re aware of the mobile games I occasionally play and what games I mainly enjoy. They even mentioned it herself!”
【AlpacaHunter】- Oh, they did a lot of research, huh?
【LucidDream7】- For real?
【GlassesLockedUp】- That’s wild lol
When I shared parts of the conversation I had over the phone after the email, the viewers reacted the same way I did back then.
I’m definitely a bit surprised. It’s natural for someone paying to research the streamer to some extent, but I didn’t expect them to know so many details.
“Oh, and they also invited me to AGP the day before the launch. Of course, I’ll be attending.”
AGP stands for Anime Game Party, an event that takes place around this time every year.
As the name suggests, it’s a major event where you can experience and explore various new games alongside animations, and the game that just sponsored me will also be showcased there.
【SeafoodSauce】- Oh, are you live broadcasting from AGP?
【BlueRageGame】- Then your face will be out there!
【Moscos】- Just wear a mask, that’ll work lol
“No, it’s not a live broadcast; I’m just going to check it out. Streamers have the option to attend freely, but I’m going just out of curiosity.”
【Kokkiyaho】- LOL
【SojuFlavoredHandCream】- You’re not doing a live broadcast? That’s such a waste.
As I poured cold water on their excitement, they all expressed their disappointment. Someone even asked me to hold the camera like a first-person perspective and show them around the event, but I declined.
【CosmoMustBeProtected】- Where is the AGP being held?
“Probably at Atex. I’m not entirely sure as it’ll be my first time going…”
【CosmoMustBeProtected】- Ah, I’d love to check it out too!
Meanwhile, the chairman seemed completely new to events like AGP, unlike us nerds, and expressed interest by typing in the chat.
If I happen to run into him there, that would be a masterpiece in itself.
Though there’s no way either of us would recognize the other.
