My 3rd Return: Archercaster's Birth

New Weapon?

Feeling my disappointment, I pressed the back arrow to go to the previous menu, personal status.

Blue, Lv.300

(Versatile in effect)

"Oh, it's here, the Versatile." I didn't notice it before. I tapped on it, and a description appeared that made my heart race.

Versatile

A restraint given to those who disturb the grave of the Betraying Angel. It removes the ability to use main and/or sub-weapons. The "Ensnared" gains the ability to enter Versatile mode by paying MP. Once activated, Versatile cannot be canceled and required MP to maintain the mode.

"Ah, so Versatile is a special ability, like a skill, right?" I ask myself. I jump up and stand ready for action. With my left hand on my hip, I raise my right hand high and exclaim, "Cast: Versatile!"

...

Nothing happens. Okay let’s try another!

"Come forth: Versatile!"

...

"Enter Versatile Mode!"

"Unleash..."

"Unlock..."

"Bring forth..."

"Release..."

"Go wild..."

"In heat..."

Nothing responds to my call.

Could it be called a "curse"? A power that will not activate unless I offer prayers or chant embarrassing incantations?

"By the power of the skies, I call upon you, erase my enemy... VERSATIIIILEE!" I called out in a humiliating pose.

This is embarrassing, "The duck!"

If it is considered a special ability, how can I enter Versatile Mode? What is the command? I'm sure my MP bar is more than enough to activate that mode, so what triggers it?

At least give your player a guide, you damn developer! What's the point of locking me out of my account all day?!

"But speaking of unique skills, I already have one," I muttered. Opening the My Skills window, I searched for the one I meant. "Chained Versatile?! Wait, that's not what I know..."

Initially, it was Chained Spell. A skill that can't be considered passive or offensive. I can't use it to attack or as a buff. Initially, the description only stated: "A chain thirsty for magic..." or something like that.

It's true that I obtained the Chain-whatever skill from an event. I thought I was pretty lucky, but apparently not. This skill is too absurd and doesn't have a helpful description. I have to experiment on my own to find a way to use it.

Is it because I already have one unique skill that the devs decided to combine them into one? That could be right! Chained Spell and Versatile indeed have very similar characteristics. Activating and maintaining them both require a significant amount of MP.

Let's first see what changes the developers made to my skill list.

⎾Chained Versatile’s⏌

The Guardian Angel's Blessing meets a certain person's mischief. Two abilities destined to seek a path. For the sake of a distant future, fate is in their hands.

"A poet? Who puts poetry as the description of a skill?! Are you making fun of me? You've been watching me all this time and laughing uproariously at my foolishness from your comfortable seats, right, devs?!" I exclaimed, pointing at the silent sky as if there were a group of people's faces up there.

"Think..."

From this description alone, I actually did get some 'clues,' perhaps. Because somehow I obtained two unique ‘in sync’ abilities, something entirely new was created. Speaking of 'something entirely new' in this context, it's possible that the developers hadn't really thought about this beforehand. And 'destined to seek a path' might just be the developers' joke to make me figure things out on my own. Then the third line of the poem...who knows, it's unclear. Too absurd to be considered a clue.

I can't cast Chained Spell unless I use it as an infusion, and now the skill has become Chained Versatile's. Could it be that I can't make it active or passive? Or do I need a specific equipment set? Or perhaps a specific quest has been added to my list? Maybe I need a combo skill, a ritual, before using this skill?

No, that's not it.

I can't equate Skills and Abilities. Although they can be used interchangeably in a general sense, when I think about it again, the developers wrote "Ability" instead of "Skill."

The ensnared obtained an ability, as it said.

Abilities can fall under the category of "Skills," but it doesn't seem to work the other way around, or that's the direction my thinking is taking. And now that Ability has merged with myself, this character.

This game operates on such a mechanism, an Ability, or so I would thought. Like the red pearl on the tip of my Old Wizzardly Rod, it has the ability to store a high-level magic, Thunderia Storm, using the command "Call." But that's summoning a skill from an item. Can I use this analogy?

I don't want to fail after thinking this deep, so I must ensure my success. Let's continue this theoretical lecture.

From the start, I couldn't use the command "Cast" or "Call" for Chained Spell. I had to use "Release." That's what I learned when reading the skills usage guide yesterday.

Cast is used for using.

Call is used for summoning.

Release is used for unleashing.

"Release, cast... then call," I murmured. Now standing with my eyes closed, I took a deep breath in and exhaled. I was filled with anticipation. Slowly opening my eyes, I said, "[Release!]."

In that instant, I could feel my body receiving a surge of energy, something was happening, and I heard the tinkling sound of chains in my ears. This was it, this was it! “[Release: Chained Versatile's!],” I repeated.

My MP bar decreased, exactly as mentioned in the requirements. I could sense a significant difference in this virtual body.

At this moment, I had just opened the entrance called Chained's Versatile. To be able to use what was inside, I had to step forward. Hence, "[Call: Versatile!]," I exclaimed.

I thought I had done it correctly, and I felt that way. However, what unfolded was something I hadn't even considered from the beginning. It was reminiscent of when I witnessed the artificial white sun shatter and transform into an angelic girl. Something similar was happening now, as fragments of white light converged in my left hand to form something... a weapon, a bow.
