Multiverse Systems: Demonic Resurrection in the Primordial Tower

Chapter 42: The Return of the Dark Lord (II)

Panic slithered across the Hogwarts students as the giant serpent towered above them.

The Phoenix had already pecked its eyes out, but it couldn't damage it further, no matter how much it clawed at its face. The 60-foot-long Basilisk was an undead; an abomination. It didn't care for pain. Nor did it care for a bug stuck to its face.

The only things that were alive about this creature were its petrifying gaze, which it had already lost, and… its venomous fangs.

The moment the serpent heard the screams, it acutely got to know the direction in which it should bring down its fury. With one great slither, it crossed the distance between the railway tracks where it had fallen to the derailed Hogwarts Express.

HISS!

Students, from first to seventh year, began screaming and jumping off the train over to the other side.

Unfortunately, that was the side of the train where the undead Graphorn and Zouwu had fallen.

The skeleton beasts growled maddeningly, shaking their heads. A few of their bones had broken off and some had dislocated. Suddenly, the ghostly, green fire in their eye sockets churned, burning furiously. In the next moment, the broken and dislocated bones lifted and attached themselves to the skeletons.

ROAR!!

But not all students had jumped off the train. Not all students had lost their wits. Not all students lacked the courage to come to terms with the sudden, dire circumstances they seemed to have thrown into.

There were quite a few sixth and seventh years, their hands shaking as they clutched their wands tightly. Most of them kept looking for a way out, but some were concerned about the youngsters, too. A few of them exchanged hurried glances and ran toward the first and second years, preparing for the worst case scenario.

The number of fifth years on the train was abysmally low, with the only recognizable faces belonging to Percy Weasley and Oliver Wood. Percy, of course, kept shouting to all to listen to him, holding his Prefect Badge high over his head.

From the fourth year, only a girl remained on the train, her eyes shifting left and right, trying to find her friends.

Surprisingly, the greatest number of students who were still holding their own belonged to the group of first to third-years.

In a herd, Katie Bell, Alicia Spinnet, Angelina Johnson, Lee Jordan, and Fred and George Weasley were standing with their backs to each other.

"Can you see them?!" Fred shouted.

George's pale face kept looking to his left, trying to see any hint of the girls and Ron. "No… No!"

"Fuck!" Angelina cursed, seeing Basilisk and the undead, giant skeletons.

"Go!" Lee shouted. "We can manage…"

Despite saying that, they knew there was no managing this situation. None of the students even knew what kind of, and of what scale, magical battle the Lord of Azkaban had pulled them into.

From thereon, the first years were scattered like bugs under the shadow of the giant serpent.

Hannah Abbott, Susan Bones, and Ernest Macmillan were stuck together, shaking from head to toe. To their left, the Patil twins were huddled with their backs to Michael Corner and Anthony Goldstein.

Right next to them were Darcie and Daphne, followed by a white-faced Neville clutching his wand with both hands. He kept nearing towards the girls, skidding his steps over the iron, muttering something incomprehensible. And following Neville like a shadow was Dean Thomas, carrying a toad in his hands.

Strangely, the only student who was standing alone over the train was Hermione Granger.

She had fallen to her knees, gaping at the Basilisk with utter terror on her face. As the beast threw its head left and right, getting confused by the many screams and trying to swat the annoying Phoenix away, it also kept shifting and slithering towards Hermione.

Finally, after two empty compartments were Black, Harry, and Ron.

The Draco gang couldn't be seen anywhere, but you could spy Draco kicking and pushing his way through the crowd from the grounds as he realized his sister was still on the train. He kicked a long boy right between the legs when the other guy refused to budge. His heart was thumping wildly.

"Dobby!" Draco cried for the tenth time. However, his words failed to penetrate the Bounded Field. "I am so gonna kick your ass…" he muttered, twisting his lips. "I don't care what Darcie says anymore… Move away, you filth!"

Up in the sky, Ekrizdis panted as he warded off Dumbledore's magic. He looked down and let out a maniacal laugh. "Ha-ha! Have the quality of students… fallen so low in Hogwarts, Professor?" he asked, a wormy grin slithering across his face. "What do you teach them? Fear and Cowardice?"

Albus Dumbledore spied the students pressed between the Basilisk, Graphorn, and Zouwu, flying away from a purple pillar of fire. The dragon kept pressing on him even when the Inferi took a moment of respite. No matter how the Headmaster tried, he couldn't get a chance to shake off the magical duel he was tangled into and go down before…

Suddenly, just as Lord Ekrizdis was about to begin another round of attack, a Hippogriff descended from above and clawed at him.

The Inferi flew away but then caught a red bolt of energy right on his chest. "Ugh!"

Ekrizdis looked up and saw the wizard who almost caused him to lose his wand.

Gellert Grindelwald steered the Hippogriff and came to rest near Dumbledore, helping him against the dragon. "Go!" the old man shouted, panting heavily. "I… can handle him…"

Dumbledore knew a lie when he heard it.

Still, there were things he needed to do, and he needed to do them now. He nodded at his old friend and flew down, his eyes going hard along with his grip over the Elder Wand.

Above him, Ekrizdis finally tasted panic.

Once Dumbledore saved the children, there was no escaping this situation anymore. He could defend himself against both the Headmaster and Grindelwald, but not against the full magical might of scores of Aurors backing them up.

-Lord… Yellow Warlock,- the Lord of Azkaban hissed, sending the words through the Artifact. -If not now, then when?!-

Black saw Dumbledore charging down, heard Ekrizdis' panicked words, and frowned.

The only way he could think of now was to use Lilith's inherent Apparation ability and flee with Ekrizdis before returning as the young Arlen Black.

However, with the Merlin's Staff still present in the battle, he couldn't afford to do so. There was no way the Six wouldn't recognize the presence of Lethifold through the Staff later on. It didn't mean they would pin down Lethifold as Lilith, but it would make them suspicious of Darcie, and that was one thing Kai would never let happen.

I need a distraction… Black thought, calling the Lethifold to him anyway. Ekrizdis needs a distraction. He can run away using the undead Zouwu then. But first… I need to prevent Dumbledore from sorting out this mess without attacking him.

Suddenly, Black's dark eyes lit up and he finally replied to Ekrizdis' plea.

In the sky, the Lord of Azkaban first grinned as he heard Lord Yellow Warlock's voice, but then immediately frowned. -It's a Bounded Field!- he hissed back furiously. -No one from outside can enter unless the Staff weakens the barrier…-

-Just do it.- Black hissed back, snapping.

Lord Ekrizdis twisted his rotten mouth. Then, under the surprised gaze of Grindelwald, he lifted his wand high and cast the long, forgotten spell.

Even Dumbledore, who was almost over Basilisk, was stunned to a sudden stop as he heard that word, his eyes shaking with bewilderment and… the sheer impossibility of such a thing.

Ekrizdis hadn't used any charm to amplify his voice, but the word echoed across the Bounded Field anyway. A burst of ghostly, green ball of energy shot toward heaven, riding on the terror of that spell.

Simultaneously, on the train, Black hid his hands behind his back and chanted the same word.

"Morsmordre!"
