Chapter 350: [348] Reunion
What Lefiya did not know was that, in a previous world, August had encountered countless beautiful women.
Thus, the once fiery heart of August, driven by lust, had quieted considerably.
When he first arrived in Orario, he bore the mindset of an underdog ready to rise, brimming with anticipation of becoming a remarkable figure. This, of course, ignited some impatience within him.
Not just in Orario, but even in the DxD, August found himself in similar situations.
After all, he carried the sin of lust within him, which only fueled the fire.
However, a year of unrestrained indulgence had brought a newfound calm to August's heart.
Especially regarding beautiful women, having experienced so much made him less affected than before.
Unless they were fictional waifus he had once fantasized about, August had built a significant resistance against the charms of others.
In contrast, Ais was in a state of heightened excitement due to her newly acquired abilities and weapons. When it came to battle, she threw herself into it with all her might.
With the power of Observation Haki at her disposal, her perception became razor-sharp, allowing her movements to flow seamlessly during combat.
As she darted among the monsters, there was no need for careful observation; her gaze was fixed solely on her prey. With her advanced perception, she could dodge all incoming attacks.
"Why do I feel like Ais has become so sharp? It's as if she can see through everything," August mused.
"Indeed, Ais's fighting style and movements are incredibly swift and fluid," Tiona chimed in, noting the difference in her friend.
Tione, accompanying her sister, couldn't help but agree. They had watched Ais grow, and this new fighting technique was unlike anything they had seen before. The only explanation for such a transformation was August's influence.
August had become increasingly mysterious in their eyes.
After a considerable time traversing layer after layer, the group finally halted on the thirtieth floor to take a much-needed rest.
They were not invincible; after all, this was the dungeon, and they needed to recuperate.
As soon as they stopped, Tiona's thoughts began to whirl.
"August~"
"Hm? What's up, Tiona?" August replied, maintaining a platonic demeanor.
He only wanted to remain friends with Tiona, especially after she had encouraged Ais to stay with him during a tough time when he had been heartbroken over Lefiya. He had never forgotten that moment.
"I wanted to ask if you taught Ais how to turn her weapon black?" she inquired eagerly.
"I did," August confirmed.
"Could you…?"
"Nope~"
"Ah~"
Tiona's face fell in disappointment, her hopes dashed.
Beside her, Tione shot a disapproving glance at her sister. Such inquiries were inappropriate; an individual's unique abilities were personal treasures, not something to be handed out casually.
Ais and August were more than just friends; they were partners, and Tione couldn't fathom Tiona's audacity.
"Um, could you share what kind of ability that is?" Tiona pressed on, causing Tione to feel like throttling her sister.
"I mentioned it before, but it seems you forgot. Let me explain again. This is Haki, specifically Armament Haki, which enhances one's strength and defense. There's also Observation Haki, which heightens one's perception," August explained.
"Perception ability? No wonder Ais seems so sharp today," Tione remarked, nodding in understanding.
She glanced at Ais, feeling elated. The stronger Ais became, the better it was for their familia.
Nearby, Bete watched August, wanting to ask something but hesitating to speak up.
August observed everything, choosing to remain silent.
Suddenly, footsteps echoed through the air, causing everyone to instinctively take cover.
From the passageway leading from the thirty-first floor to the thirtieth, a striking female elf with white skin and crimson eyes emerged.
"Filvis, what are you doing here?" Lefiya exclaimed, her face lighting up with surprise. Before their expedition, she had befriended Filvis and had learned some harmonious chants with her assistance.
"Hmm? Lefiya? What brings you here?" Filvis responded with a smile, though her expression shifted upon spotting August.
Her pupils dilated in shock.
She would never forget the vivid memory of a man calmly enjoying snacks and tea in the depths of the dungeon, surrounded by mist while hordes of monsters fell victim to his strength.
That scene had been utterly astonishing, especially when he had almost caught up to her.
Although he had ultimately spared her, she couldn't shake the feeling that he knew her and had once harbored murderous intent toward her.
At that moment, August also recognized Filvis—a character hidden deeply within the original story, marked by tragedy from start to finish.
Lefiya was perhaps the last glimmer of hope in her life.
Transformed into a monster by the deity she had loved and worshiped, and having endured such a harrowing existence, her life had become a torment.
Despite repeated suicide attempts, all had ended in failure.
Ultimately, Lefiya, Asfi, Ryu, Aisha, and Bete had cornered her, resulting in her demise when the magic stone shattered.
Yet to August, this seemed more like a form of salvation; she had desired to perish at Lefiya's hands.
After all, transformed into a monster and fused with her other self, Filvis had at least reached Level 7, possibly nearing Level 8. Being killed by such a group seemed implausible.
Even with the enhancement from Tsubaki's magic that boosted her strength, everything still felt a bit forced.
From August's perspective, this was clearly a narrative-driven demise.
"Filvis, it's been a while," August greeted.
"Hmm?" Filvis blinked, caught off guard by his voice, while the others stared at him in confusion.
"Hello, may I ask who you are?" she replied, puzzled.
"Don't you remember me? Allow me to reintroduce myself: I'm August of the Loki Familia. Please don't forget again," he stated with a smile.
"So you're the new rising star of the Loki Familia? The Collector?" she inquired, surprise etched on her face.
"That's me."
"It's a pleasure to meet you," she said, genuine admiration in her tone.
August grinned. From their earlier exchange, he had sensed that she hadn't forgotten him; she was merely pretending.
And that was what made it intriguing. August eagerly anticipated seeing how her powers had evolved into something monstrous—perhaps he could discover some amusement in it.
