Dimensional descent usually refers to fragments of a dimensional world descending into the main world. 

These fragments may represent the past, present, or even future of that world. As they descend, they pass from being illusory to becoming real, merging with the main world as part of its reality.

Due to the nature of the interweaving dimension(s), they are inherently hostile to the main world and will attempt to destroy it as much as possible.

Only by their complete annihilation can the Descent be considered resolved.

However, it's not always possible to resolve such descents peacefully.
