Chapter 23: Chapter 23: Chestnut Green Mountain

Akikawa Kyusuke and the lawyer named Kuriyama Midori

took a taxi to the Metropolitan Police Headquarters in the Chiyoda district.

He retrieved his personal belongings,

as well as some of the relics of the original owner's mother, Ryoko Akikawa.

Since some of Ryoko Akikawa's belongings will be used as evidence for the ongoing case,

they can only be returned to Akikawa Kyuosuke once the case is completely concluded.

However, Akikawa Kyousuke, who knew the truth, understood that there was a high probability that he would never get the remaining items back.

"They say they are personal belongings, but it's just personal ID, keys, and pills... the money... less than 4,000 yen in total..."

"And the original owner doesn't even have a mobile phone."

Akikawa Kyousuke looked at his childish wallet and couldn't help but complain internally.

"However, people who are willing to die don't seem to carry too many things with them."

After handing over the personal belongings, Kuriyama Midori turned to look at Akikawa Kyousuke.

"Mr. Akikawa, it's still early. If you don't mind, you can come to our law firm to discuss matters related to inheritance and insurance funds."

"Of course, it's fine if you don't want to push it. Or you can choose a more convenient time for Mr. Akikawa in the future."

Kuriyama Midori knew that Akikawa Kyousuke's right hand was still in a cast and that he was weak right after being discharged from the hospital,

so she suggested choosing another day.

"Today is fine."

Akikawa Kyousuke wanted to wrap up these troublesome matters quickly, so he said.

"Okay."

Kuriyama Midori nodded slightly and then prepared to take a taxi to the side of the road.

"Hey, do you want to take another taxi?"

Akikawa Kyousuke only had a little more than 3,000 yen left, which he retrieved from the Metropolitan Police Headquarters as a relic of the original owner's mother.

When he took a taxi from the hospital, he had spent more than 5,000 yen on the fare.

He feared that the little money he had wouldn't be enough to take a taxi.

Kuriyama Midori also knew that Akikawa Kyousuke's current financial situation was quite difficult, so she smiled at him again.

"It's okay. I'll pay for the fare. After all, it's an honor for me that Mr. Akikawa is willing to entrust me with these matters."

Hearing the highly professional speech of the lawyer in front of him, Akikawa Kongsuke was convinced.

Kuriyama Midori's commission certainly wasn't cheap.

The two took another taxi and arrived at the law firm where Midori Kuriyama worked.

Akikawa Kyousuke originally thought that with Kuriyama Midori's high professionalism, she should work for a rather large law firm.

However, upon arriving at the destination, he found that it was just a small private office.

After Akikawa Kyousuke and Kuriyama Midori entered the office,

he saw a woman with glasses and her hair tied up, sitting behind the desk in the middle of the room. Her appearance and demeanor were quite outstanding, and she was working with her head down.

"Master, I'm back. This is Mr. Akikawa."

"Hello."

After greeting Akikawa Kyuosuke, the woman returned to her work.

From Kuriyama Midori's title of "Master" for the woman and the self-confidence of the other person, which obviously accumulated over countless successful cases,

Akikawa Kyousuke could guess that the other person must be the owner of this law firm, and her level must be high.

Kuriyama Midori led Akikawa Kousuke to sit on the sofa and then walked over to the refrigerator. "What would you like to drink, Mr. Akikawa?"

"Just water."

After Kuriyama Midori served Akikawa Kyousuke a glass of water, she sat in front of him.

"Now, let's get to the point. Does Mr. Akikawa know exactly how many properties Mrs. Ryoko had?"

"I'm not sure about the deposits, but it shouldn't be much."

"In that case, I can go and help investigate. As long as I know which banks your mother opened accounts with, I can go to the bank to help investigate the specific amount of her deposits."

"I'm not sure about this either."

"In that case, we can only ask Mr. Akikawa to go back and look for bankbooks or bank cards at home."

"Okay."

"Also, I understand that Mr. Akikawa lived with Mrs. Ryoko in a rented apartment, so can we assume that your mother doesn't have any real estate properties?"

"Well, that's correct."

Kuriyama Midori carefully recorded every time Akikawa Kongsuke responded in her notebook.

Although Akikawa Kyousuke mostly responded with "I don't know,"

there was still a faint smile on Kuriyama Midori's face, and she showed no dissatisfaction or contempt.

"Alright, let's stop talking about the inheritance for now. Next, let's discuss the insurance compensation."

Kuriyama Midori said, taking out three insurance contracts from the Metropolitan Police Headquarters and placing them on the table.

"Mrs. Ryoko has a total of three insurances, two life insurances, and one auto liability insurance."

"The death benefit for the auto indemnity insurance is about 30 million yen, and the death benefit for the other two life insurances is 40 million yen and 45 million yen respectively."

"There shouldn't be any issues with the death benefit from the personal liability insurance and the 40 million yen life insurance claim."

"But the final life insurance of 45 million yen might take some time."

"Why is that?" Akikawa Kyousuke asked.

"Because the last life insurance policy was contracted two years ago."

Kuriyama Midori's words made Akikawa Kyousuke, who had been lowering his eyes and looking at the insurance contract on the table, move his eyelids slightly.

At the same time,

after hearing this, the lawyer Eri Kisaki, who was sitting at the other side of the table, stopped holding her pen and writing.

Kuriyama Midori didn't notice anything unusual and continued explaining to Akikawa Kyousuke:

"The death of the insured during this period is considered an 'early accident,' and the insurance company may intervene in the investigation."

"In the end, depending on the results of the investigation, the claim may be rejected, or the compensation amount may be adjusted."

"But I don't think Mr. Akikawa needs to worry. After all, the Metropolitan Police Department has confirmed Mr. Akikawa's innocence. In the end, the money should be fully compensated to Mr. Akikawa."

"If the other party finds a reason to reject the compensation or tries to reduce the amount, Mr. Akikawa just needs to contact me at that time, and I will help him recover the money."

Kuriyama Midori placed her hand on her chest and gave Akikawa Kyousuke a confident smile.

"Then thank you, lawyer Kuriyama."

Akikawa Kyousuke slightly bowed and thanked Kuriyama Midori.

"Alright, this is our job."

"Since Mr. Akikawa is willing to trust me and entrust me with this task, I will naturally not disappoint you."
