Moonlight Blue

Chapter 28:

He did the same thing with the healing potion. He measured its magical potency with the measurement crystal, which broke due to the mana of the potion exceeding the limit of the measurement crystal. And just like that, exactly three minutes, he was already moving to testing its effectiveness.

“Hehehe. If you hate to see cute little animals get hurt. You better look away.” Said Dr Volta as he looked at the pair who were carefree.

Dr Volta grinned evilly as he looked at his experimental subjects.

“Now, who will be the one who’ll be my experimental subject?”

The hamsters shook in fear as this wasn’t the first time they were looked like that. Dr Volta took one of the hamsters and suffocated it with a sleeping herb. The hamster fell asleep in a matter of seconds.

He then placed it on a tray and began cutting its abdomen. He removed a kidney, half a liver and caused some damage on the intestine. That was already doing too much but he wondered if those wounds could be healed.

He then took the dropper and pulled up two drops of the healing potion. Before he could drip the potion in the hamster’s mouth, a thought possessed him. It was a single thought, but it made him wonder. He grabbed the scalpel again as the thought came to his mind. What if he were to cut off one of its limbs?

Following that thought he cleanly cut off the hamster’s right arm. The damage he had done to the hamster was horrific, causing the other hamsters to quiver in fear. In normal tests, the hamster wouldn’t survive this kind of injury unless the ratio was increased. Even then, the arm wouldn’t heal back.

Two drops fell down the dropper to the mouth of the unconscious hamster. The potion coursed through its body like lightning. In an instant, the kidney, liver and the damaged intestines healed back to normal. The chest closed leaving not even a single scar. That was not all. The arm grew back.

It didn’t get reattached or sown together. It grew back, literally. Like a demon regenerating its lost limb.

Mouths gaped in the room. Even Dr Volta couldn’t hide his shock. He thought he was biting more than he could chew by cutting of its limb. No, he was biting more than he could chew. But something godly occurred right before their eyes.

A lost limb was brought back.

“Am I dreaming?” asked Naomi as she pinched her cheek.

Jasper stared dumbfounded. His eyes almost falling off their sockets.

An hour later, Dr Volta was done with testing the potions.

“Now let’s recap. The mana potion can restore 100% of a normal person’s mana and 50% to 60% of an S-rank’s mana. The healing potion can heal any wound including a lost limb of anyone. The orange potion, which I dubbed as the amplifier potion, can amplify someone’s mana, strength, speed and recovery time, of course, for a certain duration of time. A normal person’s power will be amplified at least by 200% which is double their original strength. An S-rank’s power can be amplified to 150%.”

Dr Volta took a breath and stared at the clear potion.

“And what about that one?” asked Naomi.

“This one is a bit special. It has rejuvenating effects.”

Both Jasper and Naomi’s eyes opened wide in shock.

“You mean…”

“Yes. This potion has the ability to rejuvenate someone’s appearance back to when they were in their prime. Of course, it doesn’t do anything about one’s vitality but I’m sure the noble ladies would pay a hefty sum to look younger.”

Rejuvenation. It’s a term that would tickle any noble’s ear when spoken. Nobles are obsessed with eternal youth to the point they went on to seek the legendary fountain, the ‘fountain of youth’. Legend has it that whoever drank from the fountain of youth would remain youthful for all eternity and would never suffer from sicknesses or diseases. They would be immortal.

Of course, they can still die from injuries or wounds but if they are lucky enough not to encounter situations of life and death, then could live until the end of time.

A rejuvenating potion can’t compare to the fountain of youth however, if one drank it, they would have the appearance of their prime. Of course, the appearance will last until the person dies. So that means, if you were meant to live up to 70 years, then you would look like your prime until you died at 70 years old. It doesn’t add to one’s vitality.

“To think such a wonder potion exists. HehehHAHAHA! Incredible, truly incredible. I must meet this godly alchemist.”

Jasper cleared his throat and asked, “So Doc. How much will these potions sell for?”

“Hmm, it depends. If you were to auction them, then 200 thousand gold coins at the very least.”

““200 thousand gold coins?!”” both Jasper and Naomi said shocked.

“To think we could earn 200 thousand gold coins from selling all four of these potions. Aren’t we rich then, sis?” said Jasper as he looked at Naomi.

With 200 thousand gold coins, one would be able to buy a noble status of a viscount and still have much to spare. They would buy at least 20 mansions that cost 10 thousand gold coins. With that much money, they don’t even have to work and they could live lavishly in their lifetime.

“Oh lad. I think you’re mistaken. These potions would cost at least 200 thousand gold coins, each. Which means a total of 800 thousand. Of course, that depends on the type of auction you’d use, the marketing and many other things.”

Up until 800 thousand, no other words registered within Jasper’s brain. He kept muttering “800 thousand” over and over again like he was in a trance. Naomi was also shocked but she kept her stern face. Of course, she was shaking as if cold and a creepy smile bloomed from time to time but luckily, Dr Volta was still busy looking over his notes and Jasper was in a daze of his own, so she didn’t lose face.

800 thousand gold. She made that kind of money without even needing to do anything. She was literally thrown the money on her lap and now, she somewhat felt indebted to Allen.

Of course, there were now two more things to settle.

“So, Dr Volta. I trust this information won’t leave this room.” Naomi said as she glared at Dr Volta with a stare that could kill.

“What are you talking about? Of course, this information will leave this room. I’m a researcher after all. But don’t worry. I won’t mention you or the price of these potions to anyone. I’m only interested in my research.”

That was good enough for Naomi. But just to be safe, she was already devising countermeasures in her mind.

“Now, for the payment.” Said Naomi.

“No need lass. I have all the payment I’d need right here.” Dr Volta said while tapping at his notebook.

“Even so, I doubt that’ll be enough. Please, state your price.”

“A researcher doesn’t care about money lass. They go where they could gain knowledge. And besides, I’m a Viscount so I have a ton of money. But since you’re being sincere, tell me about the person who gave you these potions.”

Naomi thought for a while but undoubtedly agreed. She didn’t make any arrangement with Allen about not revealing that he was the one who gave her the potions. She told Dr Volta.

“Hmm.”

“But I doubt you’ll even be able to meet him. If I knew where he came from, I would tell you.”

“Hehehe, no worries lass. I’ll meet him.”

“How are you so sure?”

“That’s because researching alchemy is my destiny. So, I’m sure we’ll cross paths at least once. For I shall reach the pinnacle of alchemy.”

Naomi looked at the crazy old quack besides her. He was sure that he’d meet him. That kind of faith, Naomi had never seen it before in someone. She smiled a little before handing Dr Volta a communication crystal ball.

“What’s this?”

“It’s for when you need information about anything. I’ll at least sell you 3 of our highest information for free. So, call me then.”

“I see. Your name is Naomi right. I’ll remember you lass.”
