Chapter 1228 But Not Really

Chapter 1228  But Not Really

'…We're doomed.'

'There's no escaping this.'

Once he found out that the Vessel of Envy's strength had ascended to a level that went beyond what a peak Rank 7 class holder would normally have, all thoughts of fighting back against the entity disappeared from Riekan's mind, just like Valyr.

However, unlike Valyr, who looked at the current situation with great annoyance, the man instead felt defeated, briefly wondering why the heavens were rendering all of their efforts so far as useless.

Closing his eyes as he continued to feel the Vessel of Envy's strength slowly reach greater heights, a flurry of thoughts related to what-ifs began to pop up in Riekan's mind, already accepting the fact that the two of them would be the first to die under the dark entity's hands.

'After both of us are killed, there's no doubt that it would target everyone within the clan next,' thought Riekan to himself. 'After that, it would proceed to attack the settlements nearest to the clan then move on from there.'

As a Myth-level being, it became second nature to him to consider the large-scale effects of his actions, considering the strength he wielded.

With that, it was no surprise that he looked at the Vessel of Envy through the same lens, his expression worsening the more he thought about its actions after his clan's destruction.

'Considering its current level of strength, there's almost no person in Veldanyr that would stop it from wreaking havoc,' inwardly said the man to himself, the gears in his mind spinning as fast as they could possibly go.

'However, it's possible that the rulers of the three sovereignties might be able to stop the Vessel of Envy in its tracks. Even more so if they got the help of the World Guardians.'

'…But what if it could revive a third time? What if its strength reached an even greater realm because of it?'

'Then… Veldanyr, in its entirety, is doomed.' As he arrived at this thought, Riekan let out a long sigh, contained within it feelings such as regret, reluctance, anger, and so much more.

Though, with both his and Valyr's strength nowhere near the Vessel of Envy's current strength, the only feeling that remained in the man's sigh was that of acceptance, inwardly lamenting the fact that his journey would end here.

"…You know what? Fuck this."

"I'm calling Vaughn."

However, just as he thought about giving up on the battle entirely and letting the Vessel of Envy do as it pleased, Riekan paused in his thoughts as he heard those words leave the young man's mouth.

Whoosh!

Not long after, a talisman appeared in Valyr's hand, only for him to infuse a great amount of his own energy into it after that.

'…Vaughn?' Seeing the young man turn idle once more after doing those things, Riekan briefly focused on the name Valyr mentioned, wondering what the name had to do with their current situation.

'Surely he's not calling for backup, right?' thought the man after some time, finding it to be the most likely thing Valyr was doing at the moment.

'There's no use.' Of course, with the massive gap in strength between Valyr and the Vessel of Envy, Riekan did not hold too much hope in what he thought was the young man's last-ditch effort.

'There's no way that person would arrive that…"

Bzzzzzzz!!!

Before he could even finish what he was about to say, a massive ray of light fell from the heavens all of a sudden, swiftly piercing through the barrier he conjured as it directly hit the Vessel of Envy.

Bzzzzzzz!!!

Curious as to what the ray of light was doing, Riekan pushed his perception to its limits as he stared directly at it.

Thanks to him being a Myth-level being, the light generated by the ray did not blind him at all, instead allowing him to peer through its external layer as he soon found the Vessel of Envy standing at the very center of the ray.

Bzzzzzzz!!!

Surprisingly, the dark entity immediately succumbed to the might of the ray of light, its entire body broken down into pieces within a matter of seconds.

However, just as it seemed like the entity would remain on the ground, a faint spark of vitality began to thrum within the pieces once more, seemingly intent on rebuilding its body in order to fight back against the ray of light.

Unfortunately, as if the ray of light took notice of this, the might contained within it doubled in less than an instant, forcing the sparks of vitality within the Vessel of Envy to expend its own energy as they remained where they were.

With the sheer power contained within the ray of light, it did not take long for the sparks of vitality contained within the pieces that previously made up the entity to disappear, turning the chunks that made up the Vessel of Envy into nothing more than charred flesh.

Whoosh!

Then, as if it realized that it had completed its purpose of ending the Vessel of Envy's life for good, the massive ray of light soon disappeared, the only traces it left behind being the circle of charred ground surrounding the entity's remains.

"…" Although he was more than glad that the worst-case scenario he came up with did not actually come into fruition, Riekan instead focused on the ray of light that hit the Vessel of Envy just now, causing him to think over Valyr's actions just earlier.

'Did he… did he call for that ray of light just now?'

As this thought came to mind, the man shifted his gaze towards the young man, only to see an expression that was a mix between confusion and amazement.

Though, not long after, the young man's expression soon turned into a wide grin, prompting Riekan to think that the answer to his question just now was a resounding yes.

'…I'm gonna have to give it more than my all when the time to upgrade his accessory comes,' thought the man to himself after he obtained his answer. 'Sure, there's the possibility that the thing he used just now could only be used once.'

'…But that still doesn't change the fact that he might have just saved the world from greater harm.'
