Miss Witch Doesn't Want to be a Diva

Chapter 31: Racing Chaos (Thanks to Alliance Hierarch Qi Nian__)

Last night, Mi'er and Linda, along with their companions, left the bar to join the crowd on Pilgrims' Street to watch the race between the two factions.

Leaning on the railing by the high bridge, Mi'er brushed the hair aside from her ears with her hand, letting the cool breeze pass over her neck, bringing a refreshing sensation; she was flipping through her personal terminal while glancing at the crowd gathering on the bridge.

After half an hour of boring wait, a slightly noisy engine sound approached from a distance, prompting many heads to lift.

Seventeen silver hover cars swiftly passed overhead, their tails emitting a pale blue flame, the bodies smooth with silver tracery patterns revealing themselves as they moved—quite beautiful.

"Oh, they're all 'Cold Moon' series hover cars, that group is really splurging." The Cold Moon series referred to a range of high-speed hover cars produced by the Cold Moon Union, a brand from the Sharp-Snout Shark Star Domain, reportedly a joint enterprise of over a dozen large groups within that star domain, enjoying a certain reputation across the entire Federation.

Among the hover car brands throughout the Federation, the 'Cold Moon' series was seen as an entry-level line within the high-end range, not the top, but the ability to gather over a dozen cars at once in a place like the Four-leaf Crystal indicated that the opposition was someone of no mean means.

The scene soon heated up, and before long, the other team's fleet had also arrived.

Red metallic shells reflected the neon lights, with orange-red patterns emerging on the sides of the vehicles, and pale red flames silently jetting out the back—these twelve high-end hover flight cars also descended slowly.

"This side looks familiar; it's the 'Hot Lizard Power' under Jade Skirt's new product, 'Gem Dragon-u3'."

'Hot Lizard Power' produced not only engines but also various hover cars with a certain reputation in the Federation; although not top-tier, it barely reached the threshold of high-end.

However, within the Four-leaf Crystal Star Domain, 'Hot Lizard Power' was quite renowned; that fire dragon symbol was the envy of many.

After a fresh round of verbal sparring and arguing, the conflict between the two groups hadn't lessened but escalated step by step.

"Looks like it's going to be a big scene tonight," Mi'er's companion remarked as they watched the groups below push and shout, throw menacing words, followed by various oaths and curses among the crowd that occasionally erupted into jeers and cheers.

This all had nothing to do with them, but many of their companions found it novel and likely wouldn't leave until they saw the entire episode through.

In front of everyone, after signing a life-and-death agreement, representatives from both sides boarded their respective hover cars, began to lift various automatic driving restrictions, and continuously adjusted the cars' status.

Finally, under the direction of a makeshift underground referee, two hover flight cars suddenly accelerated, racing out side by side and transforming into two streaks of light weaving through the skyscrapers and night market.

Cameras in the sky trailed from afar, with many people watching through projections on personal terminals, seeing the two hover flight cars gaining speed and their tail flames growing larger.

"The first checkpoint is 'Five Sons Grand Summer,' after circling there the second checkpoint is the 'Signal Tower,' and the third is the 'Lion Bridge' in the south. They fly under the bridge and then loop back, and finally, we'll see who crosses the giant projection wall over 'Meteor Square' first," explained a companion, who had just gotten this information from the crowd below.

"Mi'er, who do you think will win?" Linda asked from the side.

"Don't know, and who cares," she leaned casually against the railing.

"I really don't get it, why do those guys like racing so much."

She yawned out of sheer boredom, already feeling like going back to sleep; glancing at the time, it was now midnight.

Though Mi'er wasn't interested, the crowd on the scene was exhilarated, watching the hovering cars chasing each other on the projection, sometimes cheering, sometimes cursing, and many people had placed bets.

If the race had ended smoothly like this, perhaps the more complex events that followed would not have occurred, but unfortunately, accidents always happened unexpectedly.

Handling the high-speed inertia twists and constantly changing flight trajectories was a huge test for both passengers and drivers.

Inside the hot orange shell, the hover car driver struggled to steer, his body frequently compressed to one side, his guts churning, eyes bloodshot. Initially, he could counter the discomfort with the excellent physique of his transcendent nature, keeping the speed within control.

But with each swift twist, his blood pounded, and with the constant taunting from the opponent in his earpiece, the strings of reason became more distant under the influence of alcohol and emotion.

Speed kept soaring, the scenery on both sides almost blurring into afterimages; he began navigating obstacles on instinct, then adjusting direction.

"They've now approached the third checkpoint, the Lion Bridge. Whoever passes the Lion Bridge first and loops back to Meteor Square will win!" An unknown commentator shouted into the screen amidst the various exclamations from the surrounding crowd.

The image in the projection showed the orange car dive-bombing towards the bridge lying across the river, pressing down low, skimming the water's surface, raising splashes and mist, while the silver hover car closely followed, relentless, with both maintaining high speed—that brief hesitation could be overtaken. Stay tuned for updates on empire

Perhaps due to the inertia change during the high-speed dive under the bridge and the subsequent 180-degree flip to return was too great, and when the driver's back was suddenly pressed down, he blacked out, abruptly losing vision. At that moment, the speed of the hover car raced from 400 kilometers per hour to 800 kilometers per hour; in the panic of losing sight, his grip on the driving stick tightened, and with it, the hover car's trajectory faltered, before crashing into the bridge, bursting into a massive shower of sparks and debris.
