Chapter -05.
Chapter 5.
"Did he do this to you because I talked to you?" With a forceful slam, Effie made the splintered table appear even more wretched.
Despite her words, she was relieved since she had no idea what her wild, ignorant husband would do if he discovered that she wasn't simply talking to Lucien but was actually attracted to him sexually.
Conversely, though, Lucien, who was somewhat sensitive to Effie's feelings, chose to make the most of them as it was the only way to satiate his predecessor's last needs.
"Hey, what have you done? That kind of strike on the table is going to damage your hand." Reaching Effie's side, Lucien grabbed her hand.
And as he was still a lost puppy in Miss Effie's eyes, he intended to win her over by adopting the same persona.
Lucien remarks, "Oh no, it's pretty swollen," assessing Effie's pale palm, which has a bit of red in it. following his part perfectly, he asks, "I don't even have anything to put on it, what should I do?" and then goes a step further and begins blowing on Effie's palm.
Oh my~
Effie, witnessing all of this unfolding in front of her eyes, groans as she bites her lip and withdraw her hand, sensing the warm breath that Lucien left on her hand.
"It's okay. You shouldn't worry, my hand is alright." Effie steps back, her heart pumping very wildly, her cheeks scarlet as peppers.
But how could Lucien let such a wonderful opportunity pass him by? He hurriedly stepped forward, compassionately grasped Effie's hand, and then, glancing at her face—the only part of her body uncovered by the black cloak—spoke softly, "Please, your hand got hurt because of me, so this feels like the least I should do."
Effie hears this and stops herself from bringing her hand back. She looks into Lucien's eyes and tries to interpret his expression while listening to her heartbeat, which has accelerated and is pounding like a drum in her ears.
She can feel the heat rising on her cheeks and wonders, 'This is the same innocent puppy Lucien, so why is my heartbeat increasing so much all of a sudden?'
She was immersed in these thoughts, enjoying Lucien's care of her, when suddenly she discovers that she was letting an innocent man, who probably doesn't even know the concept of love, dominate her. She interrupts her thoughts, puts her other hand on Lucien's cheek, and says, raising his head and speaking in a silvery voice, "Its alright now, the pain has faded away."
While occupied with his scheme, Lucien inadvertently finds himself in a trap. He hoped to entangle Miss Effie in his web of deception, but with only a few words from her, he stares into her eyes and becomes engrossed in it.
His attention then shifts to her pearly teeth, which are visible between her luscious, red lips and further accentuate the exquisite beauty of her face.
'Smack those lips.' Suddenly, a voice appears in his thoughts, which he temporarily believes to be justified. Because he had never seen such juicy and rose lips, but remembering his ultimate purpose, he gradually separates himself from his intuition and step back from Effie and adds with a heavy sigh, "Thank God, otherwise I would not have been able to forgive myself as you hurt those soft hands for me."
"Do not put too much blame on yourself. More importantly, I should be the one apologizing in this situation. He wouldn't have had a reason to go after you if I hadn't approached you in front of those lackies of my stupid husband." With a sincere apology, she put her palm on Lucian's right cheek, met his gaze.
Instinctively, both of them knew that if any of them made a move, the other wouldn't complain. However, since neither of them had the courage to cross the line just yet, nothing ultimately transpired and a good build-up was thrown out.
"Ahem.. Anyways have you eaten yet?" Abruptly shifting the subject, Effie clears her throat, removes her pale hand from Lucian, and asks.
"No, not just yet," Lucian stated, scratching his cheek and averting his gaze.
Effie's lips curled into a smile upon hearing his response, "Well, that puts an end to it. I'll make it up to you by cooking for you today. Furthermore, my foolish husband is currently out of town attending to crucial matters on behalf of the Battalion Commander, so even if I were to spend the night with you, he won't be informed about it and bothere you later because of it."
"Cough.. there's no need to do that." Upon hearing that, Lucian ended up choking on his own saliva and coughing.
"Haha.. look at your pup's face going red, if you want me stay with you that badly i don't mind." With a big smile on her face and a playful pinch on Lucian's cheek, Effie asked, "Anyway, where is the kitchen, it has been so much time since I had cooked for someone." then she moved ahead.
Since her foolish husband is a level 3 swordsman and a lackie of the battalion commander, he is naturally well off, therefore living in that prison like house she hardly did anything, as that man has hired every other person to work in house. She had occasionally even hoped that he would hire a wife as well, just to set her free, but her wish has not yet come true.
In the meantime, Lucian, who thought Effie was making too much fun of him, retorted, "No, I was just surprised, that's all. Furthermore, Miss Effie, I don't really need you to cook for me—having your company and being able to chat with you is sufficient for someone like me."
"But that's not what I want to do. Will you now show me where the kitchen is located or not?" With a sudden change in attitude, Effie turned back to Lucian and dropped her black cloak, revealing a lavender pegged strappy appear that offered her an ethereal beauty.
Although her outer expression suggested anger, a completely different story was being conveyed within her head.
