Suppressing another yawn Kenji stopped before a set of heavy metal doors that would have been more appropriate on a doomsday bunker. But as Kenji took a step forward the doors slid open with a soft hiss allowing him to walk inside.
On the walk over Kenji had tried to picture what a department solely dedicated to making monster slaying weapons and armor looked like and while the sight in front of him wasn't far off there were a few key differences.
While the layout of the department looked like an impressive manufacturing factory with large machines for fabricating and workbenches laden with tools. Kenji couldn't help but stare at the massive glass orb filled to the brim with glowing purple sand set into the wall and what looked like a dispenser at the very bottom.
But after a second Kenji felt a familiar hunger surge up from within him stronger than ever before practically screaming at him to feast on the sphere's contents. With a physical effort Kenji managed to suppress the urge and tear his eyes away from the vat, with a good idea of what was inside.
"Hello, is anyone here?" Kenji called out into the seemingly empty workshop, at first no one responded and Kenji almost turned to leave when he heard a soft snore.
"Hello?" Kenji asked again as he peered around a diving wall to see a slumped over figure resting their head down on the workbench in front of them. Kenji's first thought was envious that he couldn't do the same when he noticed a few peculiar details about the sleeping person.
'Well what are the chances,' Kenji mused to himself as he stared at the mop of salmon pink dreadlocks before reaching out and gently shaking the person awake, "Hey are you alright?"
At his slight touch the slumped over person shot up blinking rapidly to clear the sleep from their eyes, "W-what's going on!? What time is it?!"
Taking a step back Kenji froze as a pair of reticle shaped pupils fixated on him rapidly dilating and shrinking like the shutter of a camera, "Who are you?"
"I'm Kenji Aotoma, I was told to come here to register my Alpha Weapon," Kenji explained as he glanced away from the intense stare down, "Sorry to wake you up but no one else was here and it looked like you had passed out."
"Nice to meet you Kenji, I'm Mei and of course I passed out. Going to sleep is overrated. I just work until my brain powers off, then I wake up and get back to work," Mei replied as she stretched, pushing her arms up over head while arching her back which pushed out her more than modest chest.
Succumbing to his inherent debauchery Kenji checked Mei out and quickly came to the conclusion she was beautiful even with her somewhat disheveled appearance and grease stains across her face. Despite Mei's less than flattering plain black tank top and baggy cargo pantos Kenji could still get a glimpse of the body hidden beneath which was all curves.
"That doesn't sound like the healthiest work ethic," Kenji commented as he quickly tore his eyes off of Mei's body but judging by the smirk on her lips he's shift in attention hadn't gone unnoticed.
"It's worked for me so far, see no reason to change it now," Mei replied as she reached up and pulled her hair back into a bundle before tying it together with what Kenjii suspected was a rubber gasket, "Tell me why you're here again?"
Kenji rolled back his sleeve revealing the rusted chain wrapped around his forearm, "To get this registered."
Like a hawk Mei's eyes fixated on the length of metal as her pupils shrunk to the size of a pinprick leaving a tiny green dot in a sea of white, "Let see what we're working with….strange I've never seen this before…did you awaken this weapon yourself?"
"What are you talking about?" Kenji asked as alarm bells went off in his head, 'Maybe it wasn't the best idea to try and register a system generated weapon.'
"Do you not know how Alpha items work?" Mei asked though she didn't take her eyes off of Kenji's chain.
"Indulge me," Kenji replied as he crossed his arms purposefully hiding his chain from Mei's view.
"Ha! That won't work on me, nothing short of osmium can hide from these bad boys," Mei said with a broad grin as she pointed at her eyes, "Side note congratulations at hitting the genetic lottery, you're gonna make someone very happy one day."
Kenji resisted the urge to cover his junk with his hands instead coughing awkwardly, "You were saying something about alpha weapons?"
"Hmm," Mei replied clearly distracted before shaking her head, "Oh right, essentially alpha items are made from dread beast materials and then tempered with concentrated alpha particles. After that a hero has to awaken the items laten power by using their quirk in tandem with the piece of armor or weapon."
"Alright so what's different about mine," Kenji asked hoping his bluff wasn't about to get called.
"Alpha weapons are mostly made of Dread Beast materials because they naturally conduct alpha particles and as a result are much easier to awaken. But as far as I can tell the chain on your arm is just ordinary steel." Mei replied before she began to mutter underneath her breath, "Despite that there's no doubt that chain has awakened."
After staring for a moment longer Mei sat back in her chair as her eye returned to normal, "I'll register it under your name, but you have to agree to let me examine you and that chain further."
"Why do you need me?" Kenjia asked, wondering what was going on in Mei's head.
"Because making alpha items is expensive and not always guaranteed to succeed. But you managed to make one out of a rust piece of metal. If I can harness that result into something repeatable imagine all the money I could make," Mei said with a greedy look in her eyes.
