Chapter 14: The Security Forces
The Umbrella Security Service (USS) is officially known as Umbrella's Rapid Response Security Force. Adam had established four squads under this service.
The first squad, Alpha, was primarily responsible for recovering important technology and assets belonging to Umbrella or covertly seizing critical technologies from rival companies.
The second squad, Omicron, specialized in assassinating executives of rival companies or political figures hostile to Umbrella.
The third squad, Epsilon, was tasked with protecting high-ranking Umbrella officials, and it was the squad that accompanied Luna on her travels.
The fourth squad, Zeta, mainly served as a support team for the other three squads, functioning as a kind of reserve force.
Each member of these squads had been injected with a T-virus enhancement serum. While they might appear ordinary on the outside, they were, in reality, akin to superhumans.
For this operation, Adam had dispatched Omicron Squad to Stark Energy Plant and sent Alpha Squad to Tony's villa.
The reason was simple—Adam wanted to obtain the technology for miniaturizing the Arc Reactor.
Although he wasn't certain whether Tony had stored the relevant data at his villa, this was undoubtedly the best opportunity since Tony was currently preoccupied with other matters.
Unexpectedly, S.H.I.E.L.D. had been just as keen-eyed—or perhaps they, too, were after the same technology.
Standing at the front of Tony's luxurious villa were three individuals, led by a bald, African-American man—Nick Fury, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.
To Nick's left was a stunning redhead with a lithe and curvaceous figure, Natasha Romanoff, a Level 9 S.H.I.E.L.D. agent also known as the Black Widow.
On Nick's right was another beautiful woman with long blonde hair, whose figure and looks rivaled Natasha's, though Adam didn't recognize her.
This wasn't too surprising.
Even though the Marvel universe Adam had found himself in largely resembled Earth-199999 from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it included mutants, the Fantastic Four, and more. So it wasn't surprising to encounter a few unfamiliar characters.
At that moment, Nick looked at the twelve heavily armed figures standing before him, his expression turning serious.
"Where did these people come from?"
These figures were clearly well-trained, on par with S.H.I.E.L.D.'s own operatives, though their affiliation was unknown.
Moreover, their intentions didn't seem friendly.
Natasha leaned in and whispered, "Director, should we still proceed with searching Tony's villa?"
After a moment of thought, Nick shook his head.
"No, forget it."
Adam's guess had been spot-on.
Nick had brought his team to the villa intending to search for the Arc Reactor technology.
However, unlike Adam, who was focused on the miniaturized version, Nick was interested in obtaining the technology for both the large and small versions.
After all, S.H.I.E.L.D. didn't have a specific need for miniaturization, so the size difference wasn't that significant to them.
In fact, larger reactors had their advantages, such as higher and more stable energy output.
While miniaturization offered portability, it required more advanced materials and technology, and the cost was higher.
After contemplating for a moment, Nick picked up his radio.
"Hill, I need backup."
"Yes, Director, I'll send reinforcements immediately."
A few minutes later, three helicopters appeared in the sky, and a dozen heavily armed S.H.I.E.L.D. operatives descended.
The tension escalated instantly.
Seeing this unfold from Umbrella's office, Adam decisively ordered Alpha Squad to retreat.
As the saying goes, a wise man knows when to retreat. There was no need to engage in a confrontation with S.H.I.E.L.D. over this.
Besides, there were other ways to acquire the Arc Reactor technology, and it didn't have to be from Tony's home.
...
Meanwhile, at Stark Energy Plant.
Tony and Obadiah's fight had moved from the ground to the sky.
Using the low temperature and low oxygen environment at high altitude, Tony managed to make Obadiah's Iron Monger lose power, causing it to plummet back into the factory.
However, Tony himself also faced an energy shortage, forcing him to activate the emergency backup power and slowly descend from the sky.
With a loud "Crash!" Tony landed, and despite his suit's advanced shock absorbers, he still felt as though his body had been smashed into pieces.
But his concern for Pepper drove him to call out as soon as he was safe.
"Pepper."
Pepper, who had been anxiously awaiting news, immediately answered, her voice filled with a mix of relief and worry, "Tony, oh God, are you okay?"
"My energy is almost depleted. I need to take off my armor before I can get down."
At that moment, Tony believed that Obadiah had died in the fall, so he began removing the right arm of his suit.
But in the next second, Obadiah, piloting the Iron Monger, suddenly flew at him from the side.
"Nice idea, but you've underestimated me."
To be honest, Obadiah's Iron Monger had been built in too short a time and hadn't undergone tests in extreme environments, which had cost him dearly.
However, the Iron Monger's design wasn't simple. At the last moment, Obadiah had managed to activate the flight system, preventing himself from being turned into a splatter on the ground.
With a sharp "Clang!" Obadiah, controlling the Iron Monger, punched Tony's Iron Man suit, sending him flying.
Tony quickly retaliated, landing a punch on the Iron Monger.
Thus, the two began exchanging blows.
It's no wonder the leader of the Omicron Squad had been dismissive of their fight.
Here were two people using the most advanced suits of armor, yet they were brawling like primitive men.
And if they had been fighting well, it would have been understandable, but they lacked any real combat techniques—just punch after punch.
At this point in the fight, Obadiah had the upper hand.
After all, the Iron Monger stood over three meters tall, while Iron Man was only about 1.8 meters. Moreover, the Iron Monger was powered by the second-generation Arc Reactor, while Tony's suit was running on the first-generation reactor.
In terms of both size and energy, the Iron Monger had the advantage.
But Obadiah was, after all, a businessman, not a warrior, so despite his advantage, he didn't know how to finish the fight.
After a while, he resorted to brute force, grabbing Tony and trying to use the Iron Monger's superior strength to squeeze the life out of him.
Caught in the Iron Monger's grip, Tony began to panic.
"JARVIS, check the weapon status."
"Repulsors are offline. Missiles are offline."
"Then use the flares!"
As a swarm of tiny flares launched, the Iron Monger's sensors were overwhelmed, forcing Obadiah to release his grip.
Tony took the opportunity to dart away.
"Pepper, this isn't working. I can't beat him."
"Tony, are you okay?"
"Listen, I have an idea—to overload the Arc Reactor and blow off the roof."
"What are you going to do?"
"It's not me—it's you."
Pepper froze at his words but quickly nodded.
"What do you need me to do?"
"Go to the central control console, open all the circuits, and disable all the safety systems."
"Okay, I'm in the plant now, opening all circuits."
"Good. Wait for my signal to activate the Arc Reactor."
