Chapter 62: marvel 62
Aokiji, standing beside Akainu, observed Max's transformation with an air of resignation. "So, this is what he meant by 'Night Lord,'" he remarked, recognizing the terrifying power of the dragon form.
But Akainu scoffed, his contempt breaking through his momentary shock. "So what? Against my magma, he's nothing." He clenched his fists, his skin beginning to glow as magma bubbled up around him, radiating an intense, searing heat. "I'll reduce him and this entire island to ash if I have to!"
Max let out a deep, rumbling chuckle that shook the air. "You think a little heat will stop the Night Monarch?" His voice boomed, echoing across the island as he unleashed a pulse of dark energy that warped the very air around him.
Akainu, undeterred, raised a fiery fist, ready to engage in what he believed would be the ultimate test of strength. But the Marines behind him faltered, the sight of Max's titanic form shattering their resolve, knowing that any misstep could bring them face-to-face with the mythical Devil Fruit user before them.
The Marines watched in terror, comparing Max's colossal Black Dragon form to Kaido's feared Green Dragon. Yet, the oppressive aura Max exuded far exceeded that of the Beast Pirate's captain, casting an overwhelming shadow over the island.
Max curled his massive frame, his intense gaze locked on Akainu, who braced himself, magma-coated fists raised defiantly. With a deep inhale, Max opened his jaws, black energy swirling and condensing into a powerful orb. "Dragon's Breath…" he growled, his voice reverberating like thunder. The black beam of destructive energy roared forth, illuminating the dark horizon in an eerie, midnight glow.
Aokiji's eyes widened as he recognized the imminent danger. "Akainu, move!" In a flash, he dashed with Soru, grabbing Akainu and yanking him aside just in time. But even then, Akainu couldn't fully escape—the beam grazed his left arm, instantly reducing it to nothingness, erased from existence by the sheer destructive force.
As the beam dissipated, a deep trench scarred the earth where Max's attack had landed, the Marines frozen in horror at the devastation wrought in mere seconds. Akainu, clutching the remains of his left arm, grit his teeth, the pain only fueling his anger. He glared up at Max, whose form loomed above them like a vengeful god, unfazed and ready to unleash his fury once more.
"Ahahaha, I must thank the Marines for giving me another chance to hold hostages!" Max's voice boomed through the battlefield, his massive black wings beating the air as he descended upon Aokiji and Akainu with predatory intent.
Aokiji's eyes narrowed as he raised his hands, ice gathering around him. "Blue Pheasant!" he called out, sending massive shards of ice hurtling toward Max, aiming to slow down the formidable dragon. But Max merely smirked, his draconic scales shimmering as he summoned his Haki, releasing dark, razor-sharp blades that shredded through the ice shards effortlessly. The dark energy deflected Aokiji's attack, forcing both admirals on the defensive.
Akainu used Soru to dodge, his hardened gaze fixed on Max as he prepared for a counterattack. But the sheer force of Max's assault was overwhelming. Even Akainu was forced to evade rapidly, his expression tense. Aokiji barely managed to keep his ground, his icy breath labored as he summoned yet another shield of ice.
With Max's shadow looming over them, it was clear this battle would be unlike anything the admirals had ever faced.
Max's wings flapped once more, creating a shockwave that sent the remaining ice fragments and magma fragments flying in all directions. The ground beneath them trembled as his immense draconic form loomed over the two admirals. His eyes glowed like twin stars, an unsettling, otherworldly aura radiating from him as he prepared for his next move.
Max swooped down, his massive form casting a dark shadow over the battlefield. With a roar, he unleashed a blast of pure black energy, the destructive beam carving a path through the air and hitting the ground with devastating force, shattering the terrain and sending shockwaves through the ranks of the Marines.
Akainu snarled, his fists erupting in molten lava as he launched a barrage of magma fists at Max. "Meteor Volcano!" he roared, sending a hail of molten fireballs toward the dragon. But Max twisted his body mid-air, dodging the magma strikes with surprising agility for his massive size, then countered by swiping his tail across the battlefield, creating a black whirlwind that dispersed Akainu's magma attacks and tore through the ground.
Aokiji sprang forward, his hands emitting a freezing aura as he attempted to encase Max in ice. "Ice Age!" he shouted, aiming to stop the dragon's movements by freezing his wings. The ice quickly spread over Max's massive form, but with a deep rumble, Max unleashed a pulse of energy that shattered the ice instantly.
Max's eyes glowed with a dark power as he looked down at the admirals. "Your Devil Fruits are impressive, but they pale against the power of the Black Star Dragon." He inhaled, gathering energy, and then released a wave of dark flames that mixed with his Haki. The dark flames surged toward Akainu and Aokiji, forcing them to retreat, barely escaping the scorching attack.
Akainu clenched his jaw, his face contorted in frustration. "Damn it! How is he this powerful?"
Max landed, his massive claws digging into the ground as he reverted partially to his human form, his aura still emanating power. He extended his hand toward the admirals, creating a sphere of dark energy. "Consider this your last warning. You were foolish to think you could stand against me."
Aokiji and Akainu exchanged a look, understanding the danger they faced. They'd underestimated this "Night Monarch"—and now, it might be too late to turn the tides of battle.
"Your magma and ice are nothing but tools for me to crush," Max growled. In an instant, he soared high into the air, his immense dragon form casting a shadow over the battlefield. The earth trembled beneath his feet as he unleashed a barrage of black energy beams from his wings, sending them crashing toward Akainu and Aokiji.
Both admirals barely managed to dodge, their movements quick but strained. Aokiji, trying to form another barrier of ice, was struck by one of Max's energy beams, sending him skidding across the ground. Akainu, more resilient to damage, shielded himself with magma, but he couldn't help but growl in frustration at the unrelenting assault.
