Chapter 5: random events 1
Some Time in the Future
S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters
Nick Fury stood in front of the large screen in the control room, his one good eye locked on the image of a monstrous creature towering over the devastated cityscape. At least 300 feet tall, the centipede-like beast rampaged through the city, leaving chaos and destruction in its wake.
Beside him, Maria Hill stood grim and silent, absorbing the gravity of the situation.
"Do you think they can stop it?" Fury asked, his voice steady, yet burdened with urgency.
Maria glanced at the monitor. Buildings collapsed under the creature's sheer size, while panicked civilians scrambled for safety. The exoskeleton of the beast gleamed under the sunlight, impervious to the relentless onslaught of weapons.
"Stark's weapons are useless," Maria said flatly. "Its exoskeleton is too strong to penetrate."
The feed shifted, showing Logan rushing in with his adamantium claws. He managed to land a few strikes, but the beast shrugged them off with alarming ease. Worse, Logan couldn't remain close for long—the creature's powerful, thrashing legs forced him to retreat repeatedly.
"The others can't get close either," Maria added.
The screen flickered to show Nightcrawler teleporting the X-Men out of danger, whisking them away from falling debris and the creature's relentless attacks. He was their lifeline, but even his efforts only delayed the inevitable.
"The thing's fast, heavily armored, and ridiculously strong," Maria concluded, shaking her head. "This isn't going to be easy, sir."
A voice crackled in her earpiece. Maria pressed a finger to it, listening closely.
"Sir, there's been a sudden weather change near the monster," she reported, her expression shifting to confusion.
Nick Fury's gaze narrowed. "What kind of change?"
"The temperature's dropping... and snowflakes are starting to fall," Maria replied, her voice uncertain.
Fury frowned deeply, his unease growing. "Is the creature causing it?"
Maria hesitated. "No, sir. It doesn't seem to be the source."
The control room fell into a tense silence as Fury pondered the sudden, inexplicable shift. Something—or someone—was altering the battlefield.

On the Battlefield
Dark Blue smoke swirled briefly before bamf—Nightcrawler appeared on the rooftop of one of the few remaining buildings, Cyclops at his side. The massive centipede raged below them, its movements shaking the ground and toppling nearby structures.
"We can't stop it," Nightcrawler said quietly, his tone grim.
Cyclops didn't respond immediately, though he already knew the answer. This creature was beyond their capability.
He touched his communicator. "Jean, any ideas?"
Her voice echoed in his mind. "It's too big. I can't control it with telekinesis. Its weight and constant movement make it impossible to stop."
Cyclops clenched his fists. Below, Storm was attempting to land lightning strikes on the beast. Each bolt hit its mark, but the centipede's armor remained unscathed.
"It's no good. Even Ororo can't crack that shell," Cyclops muttered, frustration evident in his voice.
"Did S.H.I.E.L.D. say where it came from?" he asked, suspicion creeping into his tone. This was starting to feel like a trap.
Once again, Jean's voice filled his head. "No. They don't know either. It just… appeared. Everyone in the area when it arrived is already dead."
A familiar voice cut in from above, tinged with a faint note of sarcasm. "So, no backup plans, huh?"
Cyclops didn't need to turn to recognize the voice. Tony Stark hovering beside them in his suit, his hands still glowing faintly as his repulsors kept him airborne.
"Your weapons haven't done much either," Cyclops shot back, his tone sharper than intended.
"Touché," Stark replied, a hint of humor still in his voice. "It regenerates too quickly, and it's smart. Doesn't leave any openings for long."
"Jarvis, anything useful yet?" Stark asked. He couldn't wrap his head around how such a massive creature could appear without anyone noticing.
"Nothing definitive, sir," Jarvis responded. "However, surveillance footage from the area where it appeared shows no signs of the creature approaching from underground or any other direction. It materialized out of nowhere, as if teleported."
Stark's face turned serious behind his mask. "Teleported? That's not good."
Cyclops stiffened at the revelation. "So, someone sent it here deliberately."
"And whoever did that," Stark said, his voice grim now, "has access to some seriously advanced tech—or powers."
The tension in the air grew heavier. This was no random attack; someone—or something—was orchestrating the chaos.
The centipede roared in the distance, its legs tearing through concrete as it advanced. For a moment, the three of them stood in silence, watching the chaos. Stark's repulsors flared slightly as he shifted his position, his hands steadying his flight as he scanned the battlefield for options.
Stark was about to take action when he saw the snowflakes.
"Jarvis, I didn't know we were having snow today," Tony said, curious about the situation.
"Sir, the weather is changing in your surrounding area. The temperature is decreasing," Jarvis responded.
"What's that?" Nightcrawler asked, pointing in the direction of the centipede.
Cyclops focused, switching his visor mode. He saw a human-like figure above the centipede, but it was covered with… something.
"Is it ice?" he asked Tony.
"Yes," Tony replied, studying the figure. "It's covered in ice, with some extensions looking like wings. That's why my system didn't detect it."
The centipede noticed the presence, too. It could tell that, aside from the human, which seemed to have something terrifying within it, this new presence posed a problem.
The creature tried to attack from the front, sensing the opponent within range.
The figure covered in ice revealed itself as the ice began to vanish.
The figure emerged—an old man with long white hair flowing below his neck, dressed in a blue coat. An ice spear materialized in his left arm as two ice dragons appeared behind him, ready to attack.
