Chapter 91: CH 84: The Storm of Deception
It had been around 3 long minutes since the Avengers engaged with Erik, yet the Earth's mightiest heroes were somehow struggling against a lone jet-pack soldier.
Well, it was mostly Stark and Clint who attacked Erik but still...
Charles understood that Erik was unnaturally quick with his evasions from attacks from both Iron Man and Hawkeye.
He has seen Jean's Telekinesis for years and could discern easily that Erik used telekinesis to move around so erratically in the air and also to subtly redirect the projectiles aimed at him.
But he also knew that this much wasn't proof of his powers. They must show the world that this person possessed supernatural powers, enough to rival Avengers and X-Men, yet he didn't use them to protect his own people.
They must open the eyes of the brainwashed people of Sokovia!
He knew that his X-Men were needed for this task.
But...
Charles was hesitating to order the X-Men to attack, and Ororo, Jean, and Hank McCoy could understand his hesitation.
What the Avengers were doing right now was a blatant violation of international laws.
They would face major repercussions if they failed.
But... one thing was for sure, Erik was hiding his powers from the people of Sokovia, Wanda truly was the Scarlet Witch that attacked him last year.
These people really weren't as good as they showed to the public. And Stark was most probably right about the plans of Erik and Wanda.
And if the Avengers succeeded in exposing Eirikyr's and Wanda's plans to the world then this would add another heroic deed to their streak, on the other hand, if X-Men didn't help them now, they would be admonished for not helping the people of Sokovia.
X-Men would also lose the trust of the Avengers and probably America as well...
This possibility was more dangerous.
With a steeled resolve, he ordered the X-Men to engage as well, "We shall aid the Avengers. Scott, Jean, and Ororo...go help them!"
Scott immediately jumped into action, firing a massive optic blast aimed at Erik. Of course, he held back a little, aiming just off-target to avoid accidentally killing Erik.
He didn't want to kill accidentally now, did he?
Erik simply flew towards Iron Man, engaging him in an aerial close combat.
The lasers would definitely restrict his movements a bit, but now it would restrict Scott as well. He would definitely avoid friendly fire.
Jean and Ororo also joined the battle.
Jean tried to use her telekinesis to stop Erik's movements, but she was shocked to find that her telekinesis wasn't effective on Erik at all. It was as if another similar force was there...
"They're attacking our soldiers, let's stop them!!" One of the men among the Sokovian crowd shouted and then all of them charged towards the heroes.
"Yes, we won't let Americans do whatever they want in our country!!!"
Charles apologized internally as he touched his forehead for concentration to stop all the agitated people, no way the X-Men were engaging with the civilians.
The next moment the people stopped still in their tracks, as if time had stopped for them.
Erik grinned as he watched the situation downward, 'Charles, Charles, Charles... do you really think using your ability on civilians to make them like this is a good idea? More so, when you're being recorded? But well, they're not really 'people'... but did get the footage of you concentrating on stopping them, it should be enough I guess..'
Hank McCoy raised his brows, looking at Charles's terrified expression, "What is it Charles, why are you making that kind of face?"
Charles opened his mouth, "T-Those people, H-Hank... they... they're not really people, Hank... They are not even alive. And those people didn't stop due to my mental command... I guess they stopped because 'he' wants everyone to think that they stopped because of me."
Hank's expression turned grave, "You're saying those people are dead, and his puppets? Sounds like Necromancy... That's messed up! I don't even want to know how he turned those people into his puppets."
Hank's imagination caused him to shudder.
What Charles saw inside the brains of the Sokovian 'people' was really hard to believe... can such a power really exist?
Charles turned towards him, "We really have to give our all to stop Eirikyr, he's a danger! Not only for the people of Sokovia but for the whole world. We need to stop him at all costs."
Hank observed the grave look on Charles's face and nodded, he trusted Charles's words for now.
Charles gave another order to the team, "X-Men, our plan has changed, it won't be enough to just reveal his powers to the world, we will have to defeat Eirikyr at all costs, he's not a good person. Put him down, and don't hold back! We... we have to free these people..."
Ororo flew to an adequate altitude, her eyes glowed white and a thunderstorm covered the whole sky.
Lightning crackled through the air, illuminating the battlefield with stark, eerie flashes.
"Eirikyr Anderson, you cannot avoid this one!" She extended her arms, and the storm responded to her command, a colossal bolt of lightning aimed directly at Erik.
The lightning bolt struck with a deafening crash... everyone was blinded by the lights.
And then silence befell the battlefield...
'Now then, I believe this should be enough material on them...'
Jarvis's slightly panicked voice fell on Tony's ears, [Sir, all connections with Stark Satellites and the internet are broken! Our connection with the outside world is completely cut off!]
[Sir, our systems have been breached!!]
[The systems &!!##$% are are are are shut shutin shutning shutting !@$@#! down!]
Tony was bewildered as his suit descended lifelessly to the ground, the next moment Erik appeared in front of the falling suit in a blur, he pulled his arm back charging his muscles with power, and then threw a devastating fist at the Iron Man.
The impact from the bare punch was so powerful that Tony's suit was shot out like a bullet across the battlefield. The force sent him hurtling through the air, the man inside had already passed out from the impact.
"Yaa~" But Jean Grey cushioned his fall with telekinesis.
Of course, Erik had held back a bit or his punch might have penetrated the suit and Tony's guts as well. He had no intention of killing the heroes, that's the whole reason he had sent him flying in a direction he could be... saved.
And it wasn't only Stark's suit that was affected by the 'virus'—it affected all the pieces of equipment in the field. Not even the Avengers' and X-Men's earpieces worked.
Erik descended to the ground like a meteor.
As he slowly walked toward Captain America and Charles Xavier, the rest of the Avengers and X-Men also assembled in front of him. Except Tony, who was out, and Bruce who was afraid of his own powers.
"Guys, guys..." Erik said as his mask retracted, he had a grin on his face, "I know why you're attacking me. You wish to reveal my powers to the world, right? You might think I'm a bad guy due to our previous encounters but believe me, I am not the villain you think I am. My methods may not seem righteous to you but I am doing this to save Sokovia..."
Charles gritted his teeth, "Were 'they' already dead when you made them your puppets or did you personally kill them to make them like that!"
By now, Charles had told everyone about what Erik had 'done' to the people.
Erik rolled his eyes, "Come on, Charles do you really want to judge people based on their powers? Sigh, anyway, I think you people really oughta go now." He cracked his neck as his eyes glinted with malice. "Or I'll personally drive you out. I'm not holding back anymore..."
Erik had no use for them now; he had all the blackmail material he needed from them. The footage of the Avengers attacking military personnel, and the footage of Charles mind-controlling a large crowd, was enough to shame the Avengers for a long time.
"We won't leave before we stop you!" Captain Rogers stated.
Erik dropped the jet-pack from his back and then the gun in his hand floated out of his hands.
As Erik closed his fist, the gun crumpled like a paper ball.
The next instant, a crimson energy descended from the skies. It landed beside Erik.
It was Wanda.
She had changed from her military outfit to the battle suit Erik had made for her, which looked similar to the outfit Wanda Maximoff wore in the Civil War.
"For years, you have ignored the matters of Sokovia, ignored the suffering of its people. It wouldn't matter if you continue to do so and... leave it to our hands," she said as a ball of crimson energy danced in her hands.
This is where the real clash begins!
