Chapter 8: Oath
"Speak, what do you want?"
"Your friendship. I want you to swear in the name of your mother that, as long as I don't do anything harmful to you, you cannot retaliate against me."
When Magneto heard Zane using his deceased mother as a shield, he instinctively wanted to use his powers to eliminate Zane. The necklace from earlier flew up once again.
However, after struggling internally for a long time, Magneto compromised once again. Zane also breathed a sigh of relief; although he could resurrect, the feeling of having one's life controlled by someone else was truly unpleasant. Zane swore that he never wanted to experience this lack of control over his own life again.
"Fine, I swear in the name of my mother that, as long as you don't attack me, I will not harm you either," Magneto said through gritted teeth.
"Good, here's to our enduring friendship, Mr. Erik Lehnsher."
Upon receiving the response, Zane didn't push his luck further. Making Magneto swear in the name of his mother might be more effective than any contract. Considering Magneto's current attitude, Zane felt he wouldn't survive much longer with however many lives he had left.
"In the name of Zane, I grant you life, awaken."
The next moment, four beams of white light flew from Zane's body into the two corpses. Three of the lights entered Magneto's wife, and one entered his daughter.
Then, like a miracle, a scene unfolded as if time were flowing backward. The wounds on the two bodies rapidly healed, and even the clothing pierced by the arrows returned to its original state. Magneto joyfully watched this miraculous sight.
"Daddy."
"Eric."
Magneto heard his wife and daughter calling him again, their voices trembling as he hugged the two who had just been resurrected. The cautious manner seemed as if afraid this was a dream that would shatter with a touch.
"Eric, how did we..."
Magneto's wife spoke with confusion.
"It's nothing, it's nothing. You're back, that's what matters."
Zane smiled as he watched Magneto's family reunite. At this moment, he also received a notification sound from the system.
"Congratulations to the master for completing the mission. Due to the master resurrecting the future Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, you have exceeded the mission requirements and earned one A-level skill draw."
Damn, surprises always come so suddenly. Indeed, being a good person has its rewards. Zane shamelessly thought, completely forgetting how he had acted recklessly in front of Magneto.
"Activate mission: Participate in the fight against Apocalypse.
Mission rewards: Depending on the level of participation, the highest is an S-level skill draw, and the lowest is a C-level skill draw.
Mission penalty: None
Does the master accept the mission?"
At this moment, Magneto held his resurrected wife and daughter, deeply looking at Zane, who alternated between silly smiles and hesitation.
This young boy who looked like he was only 15 or 16 completely overturned his understanding. This boy not only pulled his wife and child back from the hands of death but also calmly negotiated conditions with him.
Magneto wasn't so fallen that not even a young boy could intimidate him. However, Zane, at this moment, was not considering Magneto's feelings. He was torn between accepting the new mission issued by the system.
Whether to accept the mission or not wasn't a dilemma for Zane. After all, there was no punishment for failing the mission. Zane's dilemma was that he had just confronted Professor X yesterday. Now, going enthusiastically to face Apocalypse, with Professor X's temperament, Zane was sure to attract his attention. When that happened, many of Zane's plans would be ruined.
Even if he used the "Thousand Faces" disguise to go to Cairo and participate in the battle against Apocalypse, it wouldn't work. "Thousand Faces" could seamlessly disguise the outer appearance, but things like DNA and mental fluctuations couldn't change. Considering the background of this skill from the Qin's Moon world during the Qin Dynasty, there was no concept of DNA.
And Professor X was a master of manipulating the mind. Zane's disguise would be utterly ineffective in front of him. Zane hadn't drawn any impressive attack skills yet, and even if he went, he would just be an ordinary passerby.
In the end, Zane thought of a solution that wasn't really a solution.
"Okay, Master."
After comforting his wife and daughter, Magneto walked up to Zane with an awkward expression and said:
"Um, well, kid, thanks. Your name is Zane, right? I'll keep my promise, and if you ever run into trouble, you can come find me."
Zane looked up at Magneto, who was in a somewhat tsundere state. Indeed, the online comments about him being a chuunibyou with a touch of arrogance were spot on. If he ever met his good buddy, Professor X, their combined chuunibyou level would probably break through the sky. However, Zane found Magneto's words fitting.
"All right, I'll follow you from now on. I have a feeling that interesting things happen when I'm with you."
After saying this, Zane smiled at Magneto, radiating a sunny atmosphere.
Magneto, watching Zane climb up smoothly, couldn't help but recall his outrageous words and actions earlier. His mouth involuntarily twitched.
"What about your people?"
