Chapter 10: Chapter 10 A Bold Idea
Casually retrieving the pistol, Arthur didn't bother checking whether the two soldiers had died.
Time didn't allow for it. Once the gunshot echoed, the entire military camp would erupt. If he got trapped here, it would truly be a matter of life and death! So, Arthur didn't pause for a moment and rushed straight into the ordnance depot.
A variety of weapons filled Arthur's vision in an instant.
"It's like stepping into heaven!"
Unfortunately, the angels of hell would soon arrive at the gates of heaven. If he didn't act quickly, he might find himself having tea with Satan! "Collect, collect, collect!"
As he rushed in, weapons on both sides disappeared swiftly at his 'collect' command. With the item collection function of the Disassembler, it could already be considered a Divine Weapon.
When Arthur tossed a Mauser 98K with scope into the Disassembler space, his extraordinary hearing detected disorganized footsteps.
"They're coming!"
Arthur's heart tightened. He turned to run but stopped at the moment his foot lifted. If he ran now, he might escape, but it would undoubtedly attract attention.
It could be considered… the worst option!
At this moment, a bold idea suddenly sprouted in Arthur's mind. This idea originated from a TV series he had watched a long time ago.
It was a murder mystery with an interesting method. Instead of leaving the room after committing the crime, the killer hid near the door, made a fake scream to attract attention, and then seamlessly merged with the crowd when everyone rushed in.
The method was simple yet extremely risky! Arthur took a deep breath. "Stay calm. These guys probably haven't watched 'Death Reaper Elementary School' and definitely won't expect me to use such a trick!"
After the experiences of the day, Arthur's courage had grown considerably. Thinking about it, he decided to go for it!
He swiftly reached the main gate, adjusting his breathing. After waiting silently for less than thirty seconds, the gate suddenly swung open, and a group of people rushed in.
Arthur smoothly blended into their ranks, surprising even himself. Quickly lowering his head, he silently observed.
These people were clearly in a state of panic, not having yet recovered from the tense atmosphere after the commander was killed.
The group entered in a disorderly manner, frantically searching the area. The death of their commander had turned them into startled birds, and the theft from the ordnance depot had left them bewildered.
"Indeed, this is the best opportunity!"
A hint of a smile appeared on Arthur's lips. Just as he was about to slip away, he heard someone say, "You guys stay here and continue the search. You few, follow me!"
Damn it, Arthur was part of the 'follow him' group.
Seeing a few others already following, Arthur had no choice but to join them.
Exiting the ordnance depot, the leader didn't mindlessly chase. Instead, he stood at the entrance, observing the dead bodies.
Arthur's heart tensed. Anyone able to remain calm and observe at this moment was undoubtedly not easy to deal with!
Why? That's what movies and novels always said!
"What if this guy really has the spirit of the Death Reaper Elementary School and figures out I haven't left from these two corpses… What then?"
As this thought arose, a hint of murderous intent spread in Arthur's eyes.
However, at this moment, a towering flame suddenly rose from the southeast corner of the camp!
The leading officer didn't bother observing the corpses and shouted, "Follow me!"
Simultaneously pointing at Arthur, he commanded, "Convey my orders: lock down the camp, no one leaves!"
Without a second thought, Arthur wiped his head and walked away. Asking others to convey the message was one thing, but having him do it? That was just pushing his luck.
After breaking away from the group, Arthur sprinted toward the northwest. The entire camp was in chaos, and no one found it odd that he was running like that.
However, the officer who had ordered Arthur to convey the message had a puzzled look. He felt that something was amiss, but with so much happening that night – the commander mysteriously killed in his tent, the ordnance depot looted, and the camp set on fire – his mind was overwhelmed, and he couldn't comprehend the possibilities.
…
…
Infiltrating the enemy camp, Arthur hadn't reached the rendezvous point when gunshots erupted from the southeast.
He frowned slightly. "What's going on? Did they turn on each other because the commander was killed?"
This thought was undoubtedly absurd, but standing there, pondering, he couldn't figure out the reason.
Just as he was about to leave, he saw someone sprinting towards him. On closer inspection, it was none other than Agent Carter!
"You're here! Great!"
Agent Carter seemed ecstatic upon seeing Arthur, making his mood inexplicably lifted. He asked in surprise, "Why are you so excited?"
"You did a fantastic job!"
Agent Carter praised him excitedly. "How did you kill their commander?"
"How do you know it was me?" Arthur was astonished. He had no idea whom he had killed at the time.
"We came as a group of four. If it wasn't the three of us… who else could it be? Well, that's not important. What matters is that we need to leave immediately!" Agent Carter said.
"What about the sergeant and the soldier?"
"They are causing chaos in the camp and will meet up with us soon."
Agent Carter pulled Arthur toward the direction of 'our people's' tents.
"Are they responsible for all these gunshots? Are they going on a rampage?"
"No," Agent Carter replied as they ran. "Our people have arrived!"
"'Our people'?" Arthur hesitated for a moment. "Doesn't he only provide enemy uniforms?"
Agent Carter nearly gasped for breath at the question, glaring at Arthur. "They are our ambush troops!"
"We have ambush troops in the plan?" Arthur was surprised. "Wasn't it just the four of us for the assassination mission?"
"Of course not!"
Agent Carter, seeing Arthur's persistent questioning, sighed and said simply, "They've been ambushing around. However, they couldn't attack until there was an opportunity. So, we took advantage of the chaos and infiltrated for the assassination mission. Even if the assassination failed and caused chaos in the enemy camp, it would create an opportunity for our people!"
Stopping in his tracks, Agent Carter looked at Arthur, took a couple of breaths, and said, "We are the second part of the plan. They… actually arrived here at the very moment the enemy ambushed us!"
