MARVEL: CARD EXTRACTION SYSTEM

Chapter 19 – Healing Potion

"You asked for a visit, so here I am. I think we need to talk, don't you?"

Despite my tiredness, I smiled at her as I sat down. "So you're someone who keeps his promises. Yeah, that's pretty heroic."

Gwen approached the bed and stopped next to me. "I'm trying... How are you feeling?"

"I admit I've had better days, but I'll survive. And you? How did you manage to get out of this mess?"

"I have my methods. But I'm more worried about you. Fighting Electro is never easy, and the annoying part is that he always manages to break out of prison. Fortunately, my webs are good insulators, but you had nothing."

"Are you kidding? I'm made of steel, look at me." I raised my arms and at that moment I felt a stab in my spine. "Ouch!"

Gwen laughed, obviously feeling guilty because she stopped herself. "Please don't move too much so you can recover."

I looked at her and said in a serious tone:

"You know who I am now, don't you? You know my face, and by now you probably know my name. I imagine you've come here to lecture me on how dangerous all this is and that I should stop trying to be a vigilante."

She looked at me and this time I couldn't read the expression behind the white mask with the big eyes. Then Gwen crossed her arms and nodded as she turned to the window.

"I'd be a big hypocrite if I kept warning you about the dangers of all this while I kept doing it myself. So, no, I didn't come here to ask you to give up, but to ask for your help."

"My help?"

"Yes. Maybe it's too much, considering you saved my ass that time in the shed, but I don't think I can do this next plan of mine on my own. In exchange for your help, I promise to take off my mask and show you my face as well... It would be the fairest thing to do, considering that I know your face now."

Her suggestion cheered me up, because it not only meant that she would trust me, but also that I would be able to complete the main quest I had been given when I arrived in this universe. So I was excited, but I tried not to show that excitement in my answer.

"Okay, I'll help you. What do you need?"

Gwen then pulled out a chair with a net on it in the hospital room near my bed and sat down.

Over the next few minutes, she told me that she was investigating the man who had tried to capture her the other time.

'Mr. Murdock' was how this man was known to the public, as well as the criminal underworld. She told me a few things I already knew about him, like how he was a lawyer and partner of the former Kingpin, she also said that she was one step closer to proving that Mr. Murdock was running a major drug and human trafficking ring in New York. The final step she needed to take was to discover the whereabouts of Murdock's best friend from college, a man named Foggy Nelson.

"Wait, do you think his old friend is going to be a snitch?" I asked Gwen.

"I don't know, honestly. Foggy Nelson and Murdock were best friends, and he may still have some vestige of loyalty or friendship that prevents him from acting and condemning Murdock, but I have a feeling there's something to the story between those two. If anyone knows all of Murdock's secrets, it's definitely Foggy. They've shared everything... their lives, their dreams, and even their passion for the same woman from what I could find. Now, I don't know if Murdock bullied him into leaving town or if he left of his own free will, but this could be the hard evidence I've been looking for so many weeks."

"The problem is... if Murdock suspects Foggy might turn on him, maybe he's around him, always watching."

Gwen remained silent, as if she had known about this possibility even before I had to warn her. Fighting crime meant taking risks, and she knew that better than anyone.

I sighed and started to get up from the hospital bed.

Gwen abruptly stood up from her chair when she saw me trying to get out of bed. "Wait, what are you doing?" she asked. She asked.

"You know where to find Foggy, right? Well, let's go. Just give me five minutes and I'll be downstairs." I said as I walked towards the bathroom door.

Gwen nodded and in the blink of an eye she had already opened the bedroom window and climbed out with her webs.

I honestly didn't know how I had survived Electro's attacks, considering the high voltage and what it had done to my body. My only explanation was that the One for All gave me a certain resistance beyond what was natural, and that was why I survived. But even though my body was still sore, I wanted to fight.

When I was alone with the system, I asked:

"Hey, system, tell me. Is there any kind of healing or revitalizing potion in the shop?"

[Opening Item Shop...]

"Just as I thought... even the best healing potions are still a bit expensive for me, but I can make it work."

[Simple Healing Potion purchased. 100 card points deducted.]

A glass vial containing a greenish liquid, just like in role-playing games, appeared in the air, and I grabbed it with my right hand. I stared at it for a few moments, then pulled the stopper out of the bottle and brought it to my lips. The liquid tasted shocking and citrusy at the same time, similar to pineapple, but gradually becoming more citrusy and stronger, so I closed my eyes and swallowed it all in one go.

I immediately felt the difference. A wave of heat began to spread through my body, even causing a little itching, and I felt uncomfortable for a moment until the warmth became pleasant. The pain I had been feeling, especially in my limbs and spine, began to subside.

I moved my shoulders and noticed that the muscles in my body did not feel as stiff as before. I flexed my fingers and toes to test the range of motion, and even though I had only taken a simple potion, I felt almost completely revitalized.

"Wow, these potions will be very useful when I go to an even more dangerous world, but it would be better if I could get a regeneration power, because I could leave the healing potions only for emergencies when I need to help other people. Anyway, I can save those ideas for later. Right now, I need to..."
