Chapter 25: She knows!
He walks out of the room quietly enough so that Atlas can remain asleep. He walks in the silent hall with shadows flickering behind him.
Without hesitation, he dialed the number that was written by the red-haired woman on his palm. No matter what happens, he must discover what happened between that woman and Quinn, whether she is behind his disappearance or knows something.
The whole matter is strange. He doesn't believe there's any coincidence in this strange world. "Hello," the feminine voice said through the phone. Sebastian responded in a flirty tone, soft and coy: "Hey, beautiful. It's me."
"You're that sexy guy I wrote about. I started to feel a little stood up."
Sebastian rolled his eyes at the soft voice's pout, responding with a fake laugh. "I have to apologize. I had a really awful few days. But let me make it up to you."
Which was true, by the way; I was kidnapped and unconscious for five days. Regardless, he held in his retort: "Let's meet at the bar on 25th Street. It's not too far from the movie theater we met at."
It was silent for a while. As if she was trying to consider her next move. "A–Alright. I'll meet you there in fifteen minutes."
He flashed a broad, devious grin, saying, "I'll see you there, beautiful."
The phone was hung up before Sebastian looked down at his clothes. Although it looked fresh, its old and rusty appearance was obvious.
He shrugged. It's not the best looking outfit, but it'll do for now. He's not going on a date, but rather gathering information. He was about to walk out of the house, until a boyish voice called out to him.
Wrapped in a large blanket, making him look smaller than usual. Atlas walked downstairs. He could hear the slight pout in his voice, "Where are you going? You just got home."
Sebastian tilted his head and grinned cheerfully. He didn't want Atlas to worry about him, so he responded, "Don't worry. I'll be back."
Atlas replied with annoyance, "Let me come with you."
Sebastian walked back upstairs, slowing down next to Atlas, and gently tugged his rosy cheeks, laughing with a snort. "Kid, don't be a brat. I have somewhere to go, and it's late, so you should get some sleep."
Sebastian walks out of the house, into the night sky. Across the sky, the moon cast a dim glow over the forest in front of him. It was eerie and haunted, but it was still a home to him.
Using his supernatural speed, he arrived at the bar in less than ten minutes. There was no one in sight, except for the streetlights and the occasional passing car.
He walked in the bar confidently, and a couple of people turned toward him. He knew that people were startled by his sudden appearance. As a vampire, he has a slight advantage: people are drawn to creatures of the night, who possess unnatural beauty.
He sat in the isolated booth at the back, where a waitress came up to him with a professional smile and a few strands of hair slipped out of her bun. "What would you like?"
Sebastian replies, "One of the best wines you have and a medium steak as well."
The woman wrote it all down on the paper before walking away with a nod. Sebastian grabs his phone, bored out of his mind, till he hears approaching footsteps.
He looked up and saw the red-haired woman, who looked different under the ambient lighting. She wore a black bodycon dress that accentuated her curves. Her curly red hair fell across her pale shoulder blades as she tilted her head at the sight of him, and a brilliant, red smile curved across her lips. "Hello, handsome. I didn't think you would call me."
"How could I forget you? I was intrigued by you."
The woman chuckled lightly with her hand tucked under her chin as she sat in the booth across from him. "I can't continue to call you handsome in my head. What's your name?"
Sebastian tilts his head with a slight smirk, "You can call me Sebastian. What should I call you?"
The woman replies with that same alluring smile, "You can call me Blair."
The waitress came back with the tray in her hands; she set the tray before them. The meal consisted of steak, mashed potatoes, and a side salad, accompanied by water. Although anyone could smell the delicious aroma, Sebastian wasn't tempted at all. Vampires can eat human food, but it isn't as appetizing as blood. Blood is an vital importance to a vampire's existence. Sebastian nods with a polite, reserved smile, before the waitress walks away.
Sebastian relaxes his shoulders as he pushes the plate to Blair. He leans against the table, "What can you tell me about yourself, Blair?"
Blair tilts her forehead, grabs the fork and knife on the side of the plate, and starts cutting into the food before taking a small bite. Blair closes her eyes with a sated sigh, "Taste delicious. Well. Let me see. I'm a wildlife veterinarian. I love to work with animals, especially horses, dogs, and all sorts. I love to travel, I just came into this city a few days ago."
Sebastian immediately caught onto her words. She appeared in this city a few days ago. Why? Why did she move here? Sebastian's tone was light, hoping not to come off as interrogating or probing. "Really. Why did you come to this city?"
Blair shrugs her shoulders nonchalantly, saying, "Well, it's peaceful and quiet. No one would bother, and veterinarians make a good amount of money here."
Sebastian wasn't certain why, but something about Blair rubbed him the wrong way. She's too secretive, even though she acts outgoing and ballsy enough.
Sebastian looked at the clock and realized it was a half hour later. Blair seemed slightly drunk. Her black eyes seemed glassy, and her body was loose and slack. She yawned slightly, and Sebastian tilted his head, saying, "It was nice eating with you. I should take you home now, although you'll have to give me your address."
Blair tilted her head, lets out a slight laugh, then let out a loud sigh before clapping her hands and saying, 'Well. I really must be an idiot tonight. I'm letting a guy I just met take me home."
As Sebastian watches her rise from her seat, she stumbles across his chest, and suddenly, a cold, smooth edge of a sharp, pointy knife is held between his shoulder blades and his neck. No one could see it, and although some people glanced at them, they assumed it was two couples being cozy and playful. "I know what you are. Vampire."
The soft voice hissed out next to his ears.
