Chapter 21: Helping Hand
His eyes felt heavy like a solid rock; everything was blurry and faint. A greasy, warm hand slapped his cheeks hard, jolting him out of his tiredness.
Before him stood Finn, grinning, and his eyes took in the sight. A gleeful smile appeared across his lips as he said, "HeeHee. You're awake now."
Sebastian tried to remember what just happened. His tired eyes looked down and realized he was shirtless and strapped to a table. He looked around the room. He didn't recognize his location.
It was dark, although there was a light bulb on the ceiling that made his eyes burn. Despite feeling exhausted, he saw nothing that gave him any idea where he was.
There was a large tray on his left side, with a bunch of surgical tools. Looking further down, he could see dried, dark stains at the end of the tools.
As he tried to gather his thoughts, some of his fuzzy memories came to him. Finn offered him a coke, and then he followed him into his bedroom, where he saw a camera screen, but was drugged to the point of dizziness and fainted.
How long has it been? Two days or three days?
His hard eyes bore into Finn's with a diabolical smile, sending waves of goosebumps down his back. "Don't tell me you kidnapped me because I'm so handsome."
He can't do anything. He's the one who's trapped. How dare he be so arrogant?!
Finn grabs a thin knife and stabs him in the stomach, causing blood to spurt out across his skin. Sebastian clenched his teeth hard enough, but a soft groan escaped despite his efforts.
Despite sweat sticking to his neck, Sebastian swallowed hard. His eyes glare at Finn as he says, "What? Can't admit that you're—"
A phone call rings throughout the room. Finn took a phone out of his pocket and put it next to his ear. "Yes. I'm coming."
He set the phone back in his pocket. He leaned down next to Sebastian and whispered harshly, "I'll be back, vampire. I won't take too long and we can continue playing."
Sebastian watched him walk out of the room, and the door closed with a bang. Sebastian gazed down at his wounds and realized they weren't healing. He furrowed his brows and realized that there could be one thing that could slow his healing down.
Vervain. It's an herb that can slow and weaken a vampire's ability to heal.
His hands tried to reach into his pocket, where the knife was. His fingers could only touch the surface of the knife. But he couldn't pull it out.
You have got to be kidding me! The moment I get out, I'm going to kill that guy!
Although the person tried to be quiet, the sound of the door opening betrayed their stealthy entrance. Sebastian frowns, wondering why Finn is quietly coming in.
He looked at the door and realized it wasn't Finn, but someone else. A boy of around six or seven years old. He was wearing a ragged t-shirt and pants as if he were neglected.
The boy walks into the room, staring at him in confusion. He walks slowly next to him and looks at the strapped rope that's around his arms and ankles.
Sebastian tries to smile gently, but can only grimace. "H–Hey, kid. What's your name?"
The boy didn't say a word, but just stared at him before speaking in a croaked voice, "You can call me Lucas." Sebastian grins, "Nice to meet you, Lucas. Could you do me a favor? There's a knife in my pocket. Could you take it out?"
Lucas shakes his head, "I can't. My dad will kill me if I help you."
Sebastian pretends to frown, "Really, I wouldn't want you to get in trouble. We could keep this a secret between us. Besides, my wrists are really starting to hurt."
"But you're a bad guy – a vampire who hurts people."
So he knows what I am. Sebastian pondered his words, then considered them carefully. "Yes, vampires do hurt people, but there are some vampires who don't hurt people, even save lives."
Lucas seemed skeptical. "Really?"
Sebastian nodded. "Yeah, my father is a vampire, but he's a doctor."
Lucas seemed to make a decision, then walked forward hesitantly, grabbed the knife from his pocket, and cut the rope, although he struggled a little since it was thick.
Sebastian watches the rope fall apart; he tries to stand up on his legs, although he stumbles a little.
As more blood gushes down over his stomach, Lucas's eyes widen in panic.
Sebastian grins as he holds his stomach, "Don't worry, I'll be fine. Take me out of here." Sebastian follows Lucas out of the dark room, the door shutting behind them.
Sebastian recognizes where he is. He walked into Finn's room. Lucas started to tremble, his eyes widened with fear and his face became ashen.
Sebastian followed his stare and realized it was Finn who was on the computer. He turned around and gasped at Sebastian and Finn. "What the hell."
He glared at Lucas with rage in his eyes, demanding, "What did you do?"
Lucas tried to open his mouth, but all he could do was stutter, "I—I—"
Finn rose from the chair and marched across the room, his eyes flashing red as he raised his hands, about to slap Lucas.
Sebastian took the knife from Lucas's hands, and Lucas gasped out loud as he saw Sebastian hold the knife to Finn's throat.
It was the first time he truly saw Finn looking pale and terrified. He had lost count of how many times his father would strike his back every time he made a mistake or did something wrong, just like all the times he remembered feeling afraid of himself.
Memories flash through his mind. No one loves you.
His eyes open at the sound of Sebastian's voice. Sebastian tried to smile gently, but the frost in his eyes only made his features seem more cruel. "Hey. I'll meet you outside. Wait for me, I have something to discuss with your father."
He wanted to refuse, but the look in his eyes silenced him. He wanted to see the fear in his father's eyes, to witness him squirm and experience the feeling of being afraid. Regardless, he nods and walks outside.
The last thing he heard behind the closed door was sounds of shuffles and a scream.
