Chapter 8: Chapter 7
The moment the finished cutting a batch, it was immediately removed, quit chattering and more work or you would be having those potato peels for breakfast, the chattering ended and every girl peeled potatoes as fast as they could, Luna was not really used to the job and cut her fingers severally as the knife was too sharp but she ignored it. Her body was filled with little cuts and bruises that was healing extremely slowly at human pace but Luna cherished the pain, it was a kind of atonement for the crime she felt she committed against her family.
She knew she would hate herself if she was living in luxury with the rest of her pack dead, often times she laughed at the fact that she was meant to be an alpha, a Luna of the pack but at least this job helped her gather valuable information, when they were done peeling the potatoes, a stack of dishes was assigned to them and they had to do it outside in the cold, without the protection of her wolf, she was extremely cold.
Putting her cuts in the soapy water was extremely painful, and she couldn't stop herself from wincing a bit, it was noticed by Erica who turned to her, "your not healing ?" if was more an exclamation that a question. No I lost my wolf, she didn't give anymore information, refusing to revisit the loss of her wolf, Erica looked at her with pity, but the stack of dishes was indeed too much for anyone not to help out, "you can stick to drying and stacking the dishes so your would won't get infected". Thank you she whispered softly to Erica her kindness bringing tears to her eyes.
While stacking the dishes she decided to continue the conversation, it wouldn't hurt to find out any tidbit of information she could, Erica how did you end up here?. I didn't end up here, I was born here as an omega and this are the kind of chores delegated to omegas, Luna really looked at Erica, she was very pretty with soft auburn hair that curled and baby blue eyes, but because of her rank she may never be able to rise above being a dishwasher unless she was lucky in marriage.
Luna didn't know what to say so she volunteered information about herself, my family was killed, i only escaped because I had a fight with them and went for a run, my last moment with my family was me arguing with them and I hate myself everyday for being a stupid selfish spoilt brat if only I had accepted the marriage alliance. She cut herself abruptly mentally slapping herself for being stupid.
"Marriage alliance?"Erica asked her smirking, "are you some kind of royalty?",oh no my father wanted me to marry his friend son , and I refused because being a romantic, I wanted to wait for my fated mate,Erica rolled her eyes and chuckled, "your really a crazy girl, didn't anyone tell you that fated mates happen only once in a thousand couple, "What is your name anyway", she asked, her eyes twinkling. Am Lauretta.
The worked again in comfortable silence before Luna asked again in a soft tone, what about the alpha he doesn't seem to have a mate or child, Erica chuckled her eyes sparkling, "you think his hot right". Luna blushed a bit remembering the intensity of his gaze. His a handsome man I won't lie. Well the Alpha is so cold and distant because he lost his first wife and heir during childbirth.
Luna felt pity for him even though she didn't know him well enough. Then she lowered her voice even more , he was supposed to have a marriage alliance with the daughter of an alpha to merge the packs but her pack was decimated, not a single individual survived. There are rumors that the alpha is cursed , I doubt any sane woman would want to marry him.
A shiver passed through Luna, her teeth was beginning to chatter, from the cold thankful that the chore was over, the meal was done and they had to go serve the table before the rest of the household woke up, then they retired back to the kitchen, Omega's were not allowed to have breakfast until the rest of the household had eaten. If you have nothing to do stop standing around and staring, tidy the kitchen .
They began sweeping and mopping the kitchen, cleaning the surfaces until it was speck and span, Luna was seriously regretting wearing only a thin blouse , she should have put on a sweat shirt too but her room had been so warm that she had neglected to do that, her teeth chattered but she endured, she missed her wolf spirit so much, her whole body ached and the cold was not helping, she swayed on her feet.
There was nothing to do, except stand around there was nowhere to sit in the kitchen, eventually breakfast was done, and all the workers gathered in the kitchen eating the leftovers, the higher members of the omegas ate the food that was kept aside for them by Susan chattering loudly, Luna and the lower omegas sat around ,there was nowhere but the floor eating what they could savage then, once again they did the dishes and tidied up and finally Luna could go to her room and rest for two hours.
Where are you all going came Susan's booming voice come prepare lunch and they began making Lunch , Luna found out that working in the kitchen was a never ending chore, from making breakfast to lunch and then dinner, by the time the chore ended, Luna was dead in her feet , she could barely walk, her chest was tight from breathing smoke all day. Her leg felt swollen from standing almost twelve hours.
Her arms were heavy cold and numb, her legs felt like lead as she walked to her bed she , didn't even have strength anymore to gossip or talk, her clothes had stains from the constant washing, stripping she hopped into the shower letting the heat sooth the ache in her body letting it warm her and breathing in the steam to clear off her lungs, she stood in front of the mirror taking in her appearance, she looked gaunt, her eyes had bags,
A sigh escaped her lips she turned and studied her ass and found out that her ass was completely flattened from the long trekking, her chubby cheek was sunken and her eyes had lost it sparkle, her lips were cracked and dry. She grabbed a hoodie and hopped into bed not bothering to arrange the bed and soon she was fast asleep, completely exhausted, knowing tomorrow would be more intense, if she kept this up she would definitely die before she had a chance for revenge, she had to come up with a plan on how to escape being a teacher and switching to becoming a healer, her eyes strayed to the satchel hidden in her drawer that contained they herb that saved her.
