Chapter 185: Have You Rode Enough?
“How’s the fight going?”
The Chach soldiers from Talas had been watching the fight between Shu Yichao and the high shaman from afar, but ever since Miazova transformed into the Abyss Hell Butterfly and lifted Shu Yichao into the sky, all they could see was the sky turning red.
They could watch flames and lightning clash in the sky with uneasy hearts.
“Do you need to ask? Our high shaman must be chasing the Tang bandits around!” the Chach general declared loudly. “Didn’t you see the Tang bandit fleeing on a moth?”
“But… it looks like they were on switching battlefields,” a soldier weakly argued.
Those living in Transoxania had absolute faith in the high shaman, seeing the latter as a deity in the mortal world. The Chach soldiers believed that the high shaman would vanquish any enemy standing in his path.
Much time had passed, but why hadn’t the high shaman returned with the Tang bandits’ heads to declare his victory?
The crowd was nervous.
In contrast, Weryomahners was in shock.
She had arrived late at Talas because she had made a detour to deliver news to the high shaman and the Holywolf Warrior in her master’s capacity.By the time she arrived, while she was still gasping for air, the confident high shaman had already engaged Tangs’ undead army. She planned to head up the city walls to watch the high shaman vanquish the Tang necromancer.
There might only be a single prefix difference between ‘high shaman’ and ‘shaman’, but this single word spelled the difference between heaven and earth!
At least, Weryomahners knew that she was no match for her master. It could only take a mere glance for the Tibetan chief archmage to take her life.
Yet, the Tang necromancer actually stood his ground against the high shaman…
This doesn’t make sense! Did I miscalculate his strength?
Weryomahners gulped.
Is Shu Yichao not just a hero-class warrior or mage, but at a level comparable to an archmage or high shaman?
So, Weryomahners decided not to approach the city but instead spectate from afar.
It would be ideal if the high shaman defeated Shu Yichao—she would be making a huge contribution to the Tibetan Empire. Otherwise, it would be good if the high shaman chased Shu Yichao off too.
But if…
“Impossible!” Weryomahners exclaimed. “That’s a high shaman! A powerhouse who is only slightly weaker than an archmage can’t possibly…”
“They are out!”
Just then, an exclamation echoed from Talas.
Weryomahners quickly cast Far Sight on herself to see what was happening in the sky. Seconds later, her blood turned cold.
“H-how is this possible?!” she murmured.
“NOOOOO!!!”
At the same time, horrified shouts echoed in Talas.
The Chach soldiers watched in horror as their god, the invincible high shaman, plummeted from the sky like a bird that had its wings clipped.
Before everyone’s eyes, the vicious Tang necromancer, with his lightning-clad modao, first sliced off the high shaman’s wings, followed by his arms. He ignored the high shaman’s plea for mercy and swung his modao down—
BOOOM!
With a flash of lightning, the high shaman’s charred body flew into the city walls. The earth cracked beneath him, and the entire stretch of wall collapsed on him.
“How exhilarating!” Shu Yichao brandished his sword in glee.
Then, he turned his sight toward Talas.
“Who else?!” he hollered arrogantly. “Who else dares to challenge me?!?!”
Whew! This is the adrenaline rush I’m seeking, where life and death are decided in an instant! Give me another ten more of such bosses!
Talas fell deathly silent. Not a single person dared to breathe loudly. Everyone was too flabbergasted by what had just happened.
Are we dreaming? That’s the high shaman! Is the high shaman… dead?
No no no, that must be a lie!
He must have just let his guard down for a brief moment, letting the Tangs get the better of him for now. His limbs will regrow at any time now, and he’ll rise from the ground and stand stronger than ever!
When the dust scattered, the Chach soldiers’ final hope fell empty. The high shaman lay still on his ground, his head nowhere to be seen.
“Tsk!” Shu Yichao clicked his tongue. “What a bore. Attack the city!”
Boom!
The Chach soldiers watched in a daze as the ghost horsemen charged toward Talas with an army of specters. The tremors on the ground were mixed with the specters’ unnerving snickers, and they sounded like the most terrible curse the world had ever known.
“NO!!!”
“Heavenly soldiers, please! We can talk things through!”
“RUN!”
In an instant, Talas was already flooded by a white fog.
“Hmph!”
While Shu Yichao was cackling in glee, a furry claw suddenly smacked his head. He looked down and saw Miazova glaring at him with displeased eyes.
“Oi, you must be having a lot of fun riding on me. Get off my back right now!”
【What’s going on?】
System 12345 felt light-headed staring at its interface.
【How did Weryomahners get away again? That woman is too good of a runner!】
Argh, this is so annoying! I have marked out the main tunnels and the main exits, but that woman just had to dig her way out instead of taking the main exits.
【Why does she have to be so sharp-witted?!】
System 12345 lamented.
My host seemed to have noticed her and pursued her right away, but she still managed to escape to Transoxania.
【What should we do now? The Transoxania region has quite a few powerhouses. In particular, that high shaman is one of the strongest people in this world! If Weryomahners convinces him to help her, we would be doomed!】
Even though the high shaman was not affiliated with the Tibetan Empire, as a fellow powerhouse, he might lend a helping hand to Weryomahners on her master’s account.
System 12345 dared not imagine what would happen if Weryomahners had the high shaman on her side.
【Argh! For now, I should remove the fog of war. This should allow my host to make his retreat even if things go awry…】
