Chapter 155: The God of Lightning is Aiding Me
With a flash of white light, the devastating lightning descended yet again.
A silver serpent bared its fangs at the assault team, cruelly ripping apart anyone within reach.
The war slaves were electrocuted to death in their armor. The mages were reduced to cinders. The assault, which had been progressing smoothly a second ago, suffered a huge setback.
Smoke and steam rose into the air.
“AHHH! GODDAMNIT!” the guard leader roared with a feral beast.
Standing at the forefront of the assault team, he felt terror more vividly than anyone else. He thought that victory was already within his grasp, but an abrupt lightning bombardment burned everyone around him to a crisp.
If not for his armor and all sorts of defensive artifacts, he and the sand monitor he was riding on would have fallen victim to the lightning too.
And in his peripheral vision, he saw another spark being conjured in the hands of the young necromancer. He narrowed his eyes.
This isn’t good! The lightning of judgment is about to fall, but I can’t escape! If I want to survive…
The guard leader tightened his grasp on his war hammer as he glared intently at Shu Yichao.
“Damn necromancer. Go to hell!”
The war hammer fell like a falling mountain.
He’s dead meat! A necromancer can never defeat a powerful warrior like me in melee combat, not to mention that he’s still recovering from casting the previous spell. He won’t even have time to escape!
The guard leader laughed in glee, only for his vision to suddenly turn dark.
Excruciating pain surged from his forehead down to his soles. He could vaguely hear the crackle of lightning running through him.
Shu Yichao raised a modao imbued with lightning and brought it down with a beautiful arc!
Be it the guard leader’s barrier, helmet, armor, or even the sand monitor’s resilient petrified skin, everything shattered upon the modao’s touch as if they were just flimsy pieces of paper.
A modao slash that deals 180 melee damage with armor break topped with 300 magic damage; how do you like that!
In a single strike, the guard leader and his sand monitor were sliced into two. Destructive lightning proceeded to vaporize their blood, ravage their bodies, and crush their bones. By the time the attack was over, there was not a single trace of the guard leader left in the world.
“…” The few Tibetan soldiers who survived the lightning bombardment were horrified.
The tables had turned too fast.
A minute ago, they were the unstoppable force on the battlefield. A minute later, the lightning descended and gave them a good sear.
It hadn’t been easy for them to survive, but the first thing they saw upon crawling back to their feet was their lifeline being sliced apart by the enemy necromancer.
They fell into a state of disbelief. They couldn’t believe that this was actually happening.
But soon, all that wouldn’t matter anymore.
“Aid me, God of Lightning!”
With a thunderous roar, an explosive surge of lightning delivered salvation to them.
Seeing Shu Yichao electrocuting the Tibetan assault team into the crisp, Miazova clicked his tongue and remarked, “What a pity, grandson.”
These corpses could have been reanimated as terracotta soldiers, but it was a pity they were now reduced to ashes. This was especially so for their leader, the brawny man riding on the sand monitor. A powerful zombie could have been made out of him…
“It is indeed a pity,” Shu Yichao replied in bitterness.
Damn it, I swung my modao too fast!
I peeked at that sand monitor’s stats earlier, and oh my god… 500 friggin’ speed!
And I accidentally killed such a good mount! That’s such a huge loss!!!
Meanwhile, Zhujubo’s city lord was stupefied. The assault team that had just been wiped out was his core force, and he had even given out his prized armor and mount.
Yet, the enemy necromancer obliterated them with just two jolts of lightning?
Pu!
Zhujubo’s city lord spat out fresh blood and collapsed to the floor.
“City lord!”
A few people anxiously rushed forward to support him, but the fear in their eyes was apparent.
“What should we do?”
But Zhujubo’s city lord was not in a state to answer their question—he had already fainted.
Having lost their two pillars of support, Zhujubo was plunged into chaos.
Meanwhile…
“Anxi army!” Shu Yichao raised his modao and roared. “Charge alongside me! Old rules—leave no survivors!”
With the death of the enemy general, Zhujubo had nothing that could withstand the ghost horsemen’s charge anymore. The path toward the city walls was as good as clear to them.
To make things worse, Shu Yichao activated his talent.
“Soul Summoning!”
With inexplicable howls, the despaired Tibetan soldiers watched in utmost horror as their deceased comrades slowly climbed back to their feet as terracotta soldiers.
He’s reanimating the dead?!
Their Tibetan soldiers’ morale collapsed altogether when they saw their guard leader stiffly climbing up from the ground.
“Run!”
“We need to run!”
“What kind of sorcery is this?!”
Treading on the path forged out of mud and white bones, the ghost horsemen charged onto the city walls, facing no effective resistance along the way. The Tibetan soldiers were busy running back to the city to fight them.
Some of the Tibetan soldiers ran inside houses to hide beneath beds or on ceiling beams, thinking that they could escape the ordeal just like that.
But they were being too optimistic.
Hot on their pursuit were Shu Yichao’s silver lightning serpents and the ghost horsemen, two forces that instantaneously devoured anyone who came within their reach. There was no way to hide from this calamity.
Those who were slower were either trampled into minced meat or scorched into cinders.
Those hiding in the rooms were dragged out and executed. Those hiding beneath beds were skewered by spears. Those who ran onto the roofs were shot by thousands of arrows.
Occasionally, there were stronger soldiers who obstinately held on. In those cases, they were obliterated together with the house by a surge of lightning.
The slaves and non-Tibetans residing in the city were overjoyed to hear about the return of the Tang army. If not for how impoverished they were, they would have brought out the finest food and alcohol to welcome them.
“Milords, they are hiding over there, in the underground cellar! They sealed off the door, but there’s another entrance there. You can enter from there.”
The more timid ones jumped out to offer directions.
“You barbarians! I bet you never thought such a day would come. This is retribution!”
“I’ll kill you! I’ll kill you! I’ll kill you! Let me slash him one more time, just one more time!”
The braver ones joined the hunt for the Tibetans to exact vengeance.
The Tibetan soldiers, to their soldiers, realized that there was no escape. Their people were being killed in Zhujubo’s every nook and cranny.
The humiliation and misery suffered by the Anxi’s ghost horsemen could only be cleansed by the enemy’s screams and blood.
Following the fall of the final enemy, Zhujubo finally returned to Great Tang’s hands! With this, Shu Yichao had restored three of the four Anxi’s cities.
And the last one, Khotan, was already within sight!
But before that, Shu Yichao had something else to attend to.
He glanced at his map and murmured, “What are those bunch of red dots?”
