Chapter 79: The Holy Grail Knight
After seventeen consecutive days without sleep, Rosen finally succumbed to exhaustion, sleeping for over ten hours before waking. The first thing he did upon waking was check the changes to the Main God Computer.
In previous instances of absorbing divine essence, the first time had granted him the Divine Domain, while the second bestowed him with the Divine Beast Pen. Those instances involved absorbing only small amounts of divine essence. However, this time, he had obtained the complete divine essence of the Gray Rat Patriarch's descent.
Sitting in front of the Main God Computer, Rosen grabbed the mouse, and immediately, the radiant seven-colored light surged into him, flowing directly into the Actor's Mask on his face, and from there into the Void Scavenger's supernatural source.
Hours later, the light dissipated, and Rosen noticed a significant change within himself. The Void Scavenger, copied by the Actor's Mask from the supernatural source, had now transformed into his third Noble Sequence divine skill. This newly formed divine skill also modified the Void Scavenger's Space.
[Void Scavenger: Divine Skill]
[Level: Sequence 9]
[Properties]:
Void Scavenger autonomously collects unclaimed resources within its spiritual sense.
It opens up a divine scavenger space attached to the Divine Domain.
The more supernatural resources collected and broken down, the stronger the spiritual awareness of the Divine Domain's ruler.
Rosen absorbed the skill crystal that still emanated multicolored light, immediately sensing the return of the lost Void Scavenger Space. Simultaneously, within the Alchemical Fortress of his Divine Domain, a new structure emerged—a vault-like Divine Scavenger Space formed in the basement.
The vault resembled a golden rat, with its mouth serving as the entrance.
As Rosen carefully probed his new divine skill, he realized how truly powerful it was, far beyond what its simple description suggested.
First, his spiritual perception was now greatly enhanced. Normally, as a Sequence 8 with 13 points of spirituality, his range of perception was about 130 meters. Now, however, it extended to 310 meters—more than double its original range. Even more impressively, this wasn't the upper limit of the Void Scavenger's abilities.
Next, the automatic collection ability had undergone an unimaginable upgrade. Rosen extended his spiritual awareness through the window, covering a nearby trash heap. In an instant, the entire pile vanished, sucked into the Divine Scavenger Space. Inside the space, the trash was automatically broken down.
The unusable remnants were discarded into one pile, while the valuable resources were sorted into another.
This ability essentially turned garbage into treasure. Although this particular trash pile consisted only of mundane materials like plastic, wood, and metal, if Rosen could scavenge abandoned supernatural materials, it might yield supernatural resources.
And the Void Wasteland was filled with trash. Rosen now had no reason to disdain it.
Over the next few hours, Rosen tested the skill further and uncovered another hidden use of the Void Scavenger. Due to the skill's origins in the Hunter Sequence, although it had been transformed into a noble sequence ability by the Main God Computer, it could still be shared with the Nightmare Slime, his pet.
After discovering this hidden use, he immediately sent the Nightmare Slime out of the Mysterious Study Room.
Eating trash was a natural instinct for slimes, and the Nightmare Slime showed no resistance to this task. Wherever it went, trash heaps vanished, reappearing in the scavenger space, fully broken down into whatever resources could be salvaged.
Having successfully fished for treasures once, Rosen was eager to see if he could do it again.
As he waited, he crushed all the loot orbs in the Void Scavenger's Space.
The eleven Sequence 7 Gray Rat Leaders had only dropped a few thousand spiritual crystals, but there were no supernatural sources, no artifacts—almost as if these leaders were all for show.
The only explanation Rosen could come up with was that the earlier blood sacrifice had severely weakened them.
While the leaders yielded little, the Gray Rat Patriarch provided Rosen with an unexpected surprise.
The Main God Computer's transformation of the Void Scavenger and the scavenger space, though it consumed a significant amount of divine essence, didn't completely deplete the essence of the Gray Rat Patriarch. What remained combined with a supernatural source to produce a surprising new artifact.
[Holy Grail Knight: Divine Tarot Card]
[Level: Sequence 7]
[Properties]:
The Holy Grail Knight grants your spirituality water and fire attributes.
[Divine Sources]:
Friendship – The Holy Grail Knight increases others' trust in you.
Destiny – The Holy Grail Knight helps you find strangers whose fates are intertwined with yours.
Talent – The Holy Grail Knight enhances your artistic abilities.
Rosen inspected the Holy Grail Knight repeatedly, trying to comprehend its value.
There were said to be 78 tarot cards, with the Holy Grail Knight being one of the 56 cards in the Minor Arcana, specifically from the 14-card Holy Grail series. The genuine Holy Grail Knight card was a Sequence 3 demi-god level supernatural artifact.
The one Rosen held, however, was merely a high-quality replica.
But even though it wasn't the real deal, its value was comparable to most Sequence 4 artifacts.
First, the card granted his spirituality two new attributes, which could strengthen certain supernatural abilities.
Second, the three powers it offered were incredibly useful.
Friendship was perfect for Rosen, who wasn't particularly good at gaining others' trust, as it helped win people over.
Next, the Destiny ability was an extremely powerful form of fate divination. The Gray Rat Patriarch had likely used this ability to track Rosen.
Finally, the Talent ability instantly improved his painting skills when he tried using his Mental Canvas. For a painter like Rosen, this was invaluable, like having a personal teacher at all times.
When the card was equipped, his skills improved. When unequipped, his skills regressed slightly. However, the feeling of improvement wasn't forgotten, allowing him to follow that instinct to genuinely improve his skills. Once his real abilities caught up, he could equip the card again, repeating the process.
It was like having a personal tutor until at least Sequence 4.
Since the card had been acquired via his Hunter's Skill, refining it posed no challenge for Rosen.
However, as Rosen hadn't mastered divination, he couldn't use the card to enhance his own fortune-telling abilities.
He could only activate the card's innate powers. The Holy Grail Knight could sense strangers whose fates were intertwined with his, but only if he had never seen their true form. If he had, they would no longer count as strangers, and the destiny bond wouldn't activate.
While Rosen had fought the Gray Rat Patriarch twice, he had only encountered his avatar, not his true form.
Thus, the Destiny ability was triggered successfully, and his spiritual perception vaguely located the Gray Rat Patriarch's position.
