Chapter 101: Chapter 101: Artificial Sterilization?
"Dylan, can you really concoct Dragonblood Elixirs?" Rynar asked with a mix of disbelief and hope.
After all, in the game, Dragonblood Elixirs were legendary remedies capable of breaking through tiers.
They could increase the upper limit of magical or combat power while shattering the barriers between levels. For players longing to reach the sixth tier, these elixirs were coveted treasures.
However, according to the game's lore, the formula for Dragonblood Elixirs had been lost, and any such potions found were remnants from the stockpiles of various factions.
"Of course, but it requires pure dragon blood!" Dylan nodded confidently. As a scholar, he had immense faith in his alchemical skills. Creating a Dragonblood Elixir? That was a trifling matter!
"Alright, I'll write a warrant. You can go ask Caslow for some. Whether he gives it to you or not is up to him." Rynar decided to set boundaries.
After all, if Caslow refused, what was he supposed to do—bleed Kaldor dry?
"Of course. Thank you, Your Majesty. I'll persuade Sir Caslow," Dylan replied with a satisfied smile.
"Fine, just don't stir up any trouble," Rynar muttered, rubbing his temple.
Though scholars weren't known for their combat prowess, the Zaltarion Empire didn't have anyone strong enough to keep this six-tier genius in check.
"Hmm~" Rynar stretched lazily, rubbing his slightly grumbling stomach. Standing up, he pulled aside the curtain and walked out.
"Go find out what's for dinner tonight," he asked the knight standing guard at the door.
"Yes, Your Majesty!" The knight thumped his chest in salute and strode off.
Rynar donned a fur coat and decided to take a walk around his city. Passing through the castle gates, he stepped onto the relatively desolate streets of Riverguard.
With only about 2,000 residents, the city still felt quite empty. Opening the system's territory panel, Rynar habitually checked the current status of his domain.
Riverguard:
Area: One square kilometer. Structures: Dilapidated Lord's Castle ×1 Basic Wooden Houses ×200 Mid-Tier Runed Walls Stone Wells ×3 Blacksmith Workshop Military Barracks Archer's.
Commanders: Caslow (Tier 3) Reynard (Tier 4) Radir (Tier 4) Dylan (Tier 6) Special Personnel: Lady Aivy (Tier 3) City Defense Officer: Marcus (Tier 4) Chancellor: Lance (Tier 2) Troops: 2,038 Holy Radiance Knights: Tier 2 ×100 Zaltarion City Guards: Tier 2 ×100 Battanian Archers: Tier 2 ×700 Dunwenian Swordsmen: Tier 2 ×100 Elaris Woods Rangers: Tier 2 ×50 Rapid Infantry Corps: Rapid Infantry ×683 Light Infantry: ×200 Zaltarion Heavy Cavalry: Tier 2 ×100 Clerics: Tier 2 ×5
Population: 2,216 (Trainable Peasants: 837)
Evaluation:
A solitary king leads his remaining people back to their homeland to establish a city with high walls. Though sparsely populated, everything is progressing positively. The city's military strength is formidable, capable of defending it against threats.
However, it cannot yet face the emerging darkness alone. The good news is that a City Defense Officer and Chancellor have finally been appointed, bringing a glimmer of hope to the last remaining territory of Zaltarion after the war.
Special Abilities:
As the only territory of the Zaltarion Kingdom in Middle-earth, it attracts displaced Zaltarion citizens.
Each day, a wave of wandering Zaltarion peasants will arrive, guided by the system. The lord is expected to settle them properly. Allows recruitment of Rapid Infantry from the local peasants.
After carefully reviewing the information, Rynar noticed only a slight increase in population. Otherwise, not much had changed…
Wait a minute! Why was there a new territory listed? Tupet Forest? Startled, Rynar suddenly remembered that his enfeoffed lands could also be viewed in the system.
"Show me the territory—Tupet Forest," Rynar commanded.
Tupet Forest:
Area: 83 square kilometers Lord: Bardel Lord's Title: Baron Population: 791 Structures: Basic Wooden Houses ×175 Stone Wells ×4 Fences ×Numerous
Evaluation:
A barren vassal territory with little value except for the excellent combat capabilities of its centaurs.
Special Ability:
Allows the Zaltarion King to recruit centaur troops from this territory.
"So pathetic?" Rynar groaned. Was the only redeeming feature of this land the ability to summon centaur warriors? No other resources at all?
"Well, at least there's a military force to recruit. That's something." Rynar sighed. Other transmigrators always seemed to get god-tier systems, blazing a path to invincibility.
Meanwhile, his system? A roulette of randomness and absurdly expensive items in the store. Forget invincibility—just keeping this tiny territory afloat was a monumental task.
"What kind of junk is this?" Rynar muttered, pulling out a small, plastic-wrapped item. Any Earthling would recognize it instantly.
"A few days ago, the daily login reward was… a contraceptive? I don't even have a girlfriend! System, are you mocking me? Why does everyone else get a harem, and you give me this?" Rynar waved the item angrily.
Ding!
The system chimed in with a cold, emotionless voice. "Host's strong resentment detected. Hidden quest activated—Queen of the Realm!
Quest requirements: Find a system-recognized queen candidate within one year. Reward: A random tier-six professional. Failure penalty: Decreased fertility."
"What the hell?!" Rynar shouted in disbelief. "System, you're serious? You're gonna just say infertility outright? Before, you wanted me to bury myself alive. Now it's sterilization?!"
"Please strive to complete the quest!" the system replied indifferently.
"Strive my ass! Artificial sterilization? Really?" Rynar fumed.
"Please work hard, Host." The system's monotonous tone echoed ominously in Rynar's mind.
"Can't you be human for once? I'm already breaking my back over this kingdom! Now you're telling me to find a queen in a year? Do you know how much trouble I already have?" Rynar muttered, trying to calm his growing panic.
"Maybe I should consider abducting Arwen? Aragorn's queen would definitely qualify for Zaltarion," Rynar mused, stroking his chin thoughtfully.
In Rivendell:
"Hm?" Elrond furrowed his brow. For a moment, it felt like someone was plotting against his daughter. In truth, not one, but two people were scheming…
"Someone's thinking about me? Could it be Aragorn?"
Arwen felt a vague sense of being thought of. She smiled shyly, assuming her beloved was yearning for her. Swinging gently on her swing, her eyes shimmered with tenderness.
"Enough of this nonsense! Spring is coming soon. Let's focus on organizing the people to start farming," Rynar muttered, thinking of the monotonous food supplies that had nearly driven him to despair.
Coming from a foodie's paradise like Earth, Rynar found the bland, medieval fare nothing short of revolting.
"Spring is coming… but so is famine," Rynar lamented, imagining his dwindling food stores.
"At least the Zaltarion people are diligent. If we organize the professionals to cultivate some farmland, Riverguard might finally achieve self-sufficiency by the next harvest."
