30. Short Tales – Family Drama (I)
CHAPTER 30: SHORT TALES – FAMILY DRAMA (I)
The time of year was approaching the end of winter. Meaning it was the beginning of spring. Things were tumultuous throughout the world as the 100 year war continued to cause death and devastation on unpredecented levels.
Drama and battles throughtout the world. In a particularly luxurious mansion in the noble district of Oma Shu, another type of drama was about to take place.
Located towards the back of the mansion a young man sat in front of a pond. He was staring out into the luxury green private garden that basked him with fresh air.
His mind was preoccupied with the events that transpired in the night. His first nightly activities with Suki took quite a turn he had no way of expecting. It was a revealing and disappinting night in more ways than one.
“Here you go ma'am,” a voice suddenly caught his attention. He quickly turned to see a familiar looking woman being helped across the grass by a servant woman. They approached a picnic table arranged next to the pond and under a partly shaded area. On the table a variety of foods were arranged.
“Thank you Rita,” the familiar looking woman thanked the maid. “You can return to your tasks for the day, I will call you once I am done.”
The maid slightly bowed and turned towards the mansion and left her head mistress sitted by herself.
“Care to join me young man?” She immediately turned to Sokka just as the maid left earshot.
The woman was the wife of the Head General Tamutae and cousin of the Earth King. Meaning she was of royal blood. Thirdly she was considered a true prodigy of the earth kingdom. Her abilities were considered on the same level as Avatar Kyoshi herself. Lastly and definitely not leastly she was pregnant with her third child for the General.
“Are you sure ma'am,” Sokka tried to politely deny. “I don't want to bother you too much.”
“Nonsense,” Satori disagreed with an innocent looking smile that send shivers down the spine of Sokka. He audibly swallowed a gulp of saliva. “You are guests of my husband and not to mention the King of Oma Shu.”
“Of course ma'am,” Sokka hurriedly agreed as cold sweat ran down his face. “I hope you don't mind my company.” He got up from the rock he was sitted on by the side of the pond. He joined the Royal for breakfast with his heart beating almost audibly fast in his ears.
As typical of him, he immediately reached for the nicely done slices of meat and started getting into them. Satori silently watched him eat his fill for a good ten minutes. Neither of them said a word. She continued to study his every move as he cleared the plate and drank up all the juice.
*BBBRRRRRPPPBPP!!!*
He let out a loud and obnoxious burp to indicate he was finally done.
“My apologies I was uhm... hungry,” he apologised with an embarrased face.
“Understandable,” Satori said. “My husband tells me the Southern Water Tribe isn't what it used to be anymore. It must have been some time since you had a satisfying meal.”
“Yeah...” Sokka trailed off. “Things are really bad down south.”
“I can only imagine the difficulties you had to go through.” Satori emphasised.
“Well the entire south is basically taken over by the Fire Nation.” Sokka replied. “My father and all the men left the village to fight in the war. I was basically the only warrior left. I had to do a lot of growing up and fast. Thankfully due to our lack of threat we stayed under the radar of the Fire Nation.”
“I see...” Satori said. “Is that when you met the Avatar?”
Sokka immediately tried to hide his sur
that she knew that but he was too late. When he looked back over at her he noticed she got exactly the response she was looking for. It only confirmed his suspicion from the other day at the clinic. This woman was very shrewd and cunning. There was no way to tell exactly what she was thinking he just felt like a piece in a game he didn't even know was being played.
“Relax Sokka,” she tried to ease his suspicion. “I am myself a high ranking commander or at least I used to be. Secondly my husband is a General. Thirdly I am the daughter of the Earth King’s uncle . Besides my husband and King Bumi, there is no one in Oma Shu with higher authority than myself.”
“You mean the actual Earth King?” Sokka asked in surprise.
“Indeed,” Satori casually answered as if it was no big deal. “The previous Earth King and my father were brothers.”
“Meaning your are literally the cousin of the Earth King!” Sokka couldn't help but finish her sentence.
She simply smiled at his childish curiosity. Her smile however quickly vanished as quickly as it appeared. The air suddenly became cold and quiet. Even the Earth rumbled a bit beneath them.
“There is one thing I wanted to ask you however,” she began in a serious voice that made Sokka almost cry out for his mommy. “How is this Suki related to my husband? I have seen how the two of the them stared at each other since the clinic yesterday.”
Sokka once again audibly swallowed something. His entire body shivered from the sheer fear for his death.
“Oh there you are Sokka!!” A familiar voice suddenly interrupted them. “I was looking for you inside!”
They both turned to see Suki approaching from the mansion. Tamutae followed slightly behind her.
