Chapter 295: Conflict Concept
"However, before we proceed, I'm quite curious—why are you so weak?"
"So weak....?"
Hearing this 'insult,' Yoru, who had been teasing and testing Lorien to see if she could possibly turn him into her weapon in the future, couldn't help but freeze in place.
If it weren't for the fact that she knew she would probably be instantly killed if a battle commenced, she would have already tried to stab him to death.
So, with this in mind, Yoru used all her willpower to resist the urge to kill him, instead responding through gritted teeth.
"Most of my concepts got erased in a battle against that damned chainsaw man, and now, war only exists in movies and books."
As she said this, Yoru grew increasingly angry, her voice becoming eerily calmer and colder at the same time.
"Humans no longer fear war, if things continue like this, it'll soon become a forgotten concept — A mere figment of human imagination, that's what I'll be reduced to."
However, hearing this, Lorien still shook his head in response and said almost sending Yoru into a frenzy.
"This still doesn't answer the question."
"Yo-"
It's just that before she could say anything, Lorien swiftly interrupted her and continued his discourse.
"Instead of calling you the war devil, the conflict devil would be more accurate right?"
"I...I suppose so?" Responded Yoru somewhat unsure of her answer.
"You know, the concept of conflict is much broader than just war as it includes verbal conflict, and physical conflict, among many others; and with the widespread social anxiety and cowardness of human beings you can imagine the amount of fear this alone generates."
"..."
"Additionally, the gun devil, bomb devil, and all other weapons devils should also be underlying concepts of conflict and war, so it's really confusing seeing you this weak."
Stating this, Lorien couldn't help but pause for a moment before shaking his head.
"It doesn't make sense, it simply doesn't. The only logical explanation that I can think of is that you and the conflict devil are two separate entities."
"This way, with the chainsaw devil erasing some of your concepts, the various weapon devils simply broke away from your control becoming a part of the large concept of conflict."
"After all, as you have previously stated, nowadays these weapons are being used in smaller conflicts between people and not all out wars, so it would be logical."
Saying this, Lorien paused once more, rubbing his chin as he fell into a momentary silence
'This would also explain why Yoru usually only uses medieval weapons such as swords and spears instead of guns and missiles.'
'Uggghh, I remember now, there was once a moment when she used a grenade right?'
'Tsk, this doesn't make any sense.'
Beginning to feel the headache, Lorien couldn't help but rub his temples as he looked at the silent Yoru.
'I really don't like this world, a lot of things simply don't make sense.'
'This is certainly true given the unstable and strange personalities of the inhabitants, the inconsistent power system where some people are sometimes strong and other times weak, and the illogical reasoning of many people.'
'Well, it's decided then, deal with everything quickly and get out of this world as soon as possible.'
Thinking of this, Lorien decided not to delve too deeply into it, as it wasn't the only illogical thing in this world; It's just that even so, he didn't forget to tease Yoru, who stood in confusion before him.
"So, can you answer me now Miss Devil? Are you the conflict devil or the war devil?"
"I am..." Hearing this question, Yoru couldn't help but pause for a moment, as such a thought had never crossed her mind before.
It's just that seeing this, Lorien smiled mockingly, seizing the opportunity to tease her.
"Hahahha, Interesting, It seems that you don't even know who you are Miss Devil, no wonder you were the only one who was so severely injured in your battle against the Chainsaw Devil!"
Stating this, Lorien ignored Yoru's angry eyes as he finally decided to bring the conversation back to its original track.
"Well, the good news is that after you switch to the Dream Path and reach a sufficient level, you'll be able to absorb all the concepts and grow infinitely stronger, so, how about it, do you want to join now?"
"Yes." Yoru swiftly responded, instantly suppressing all miscellaneous emotions.
It's just that before she could feel happy, Lorien suddenly added causing her to freeze once again.
"Well, alright then, so what are you willing to give in exchange?" He stated, trying to hold back his smile.
"Exchange? Wasn't it free for everyone?" Yoru responded speechlessly.
"Yes it is, but I made a special deal just for you, how about it? Do you like it?"
"You-"
"Hmmm? Do you think it's unfair? Then create your own power system! After all, this one is mine and I have full copyrights!"
Hearing this, Yoru swallowed what she was about to say as despite it being unfair, there was actually nothing wrong with this logic.
Moreover, the fact that she was the only one required to offer something in exchange meant that Lorien wanted something from her.
It's just that even though she realized this, she didn't want to think too hard about it, so, Instead of wasting her time, she decided to get straight to the point
"Let's not waste time, tell me, what you require from me?" She spoke calmly.
"Hmm? That's surprising. People usually take some time to catch up, but I suppose strategy is also a part of war, so your cleverness is quite reasonable."
"..."
"Alright then, let's cut to the chase. I want you to be my subordinate. How about it?"
Hearing this, Yoru who previously didn't know what to expect couldn't help but look at Lorien in confusion.
"Do you want to make a contract with me?"
"Nope, no need for such miscellaneous things, after all, I can reinforce such deals on my own, so, what is your answer?"
Hearing this, Yoru lowered her head slightly, appearing to be deep in thought as she weighed the pros and cons.
'Well, she didn't outright refuse, so it's highly unlikely that she'll refuse."
Thinking of this, Lorien's eyes narrowed slightly as he turned his head to the sky as if waiting for something.
'All that's left now is to wait and see the reaction of the [World Will] to my demand.'
Indeed ever since Yoru's appearance, this had been Lorien's plan, after all, being stranded without the ability to interact with the outside world is too restrictive.
So, with this in mind, it would be reasonable for him to acquire a subordinate who could act on his behalf, and who better than the War Devil?
You see, previously, Lorien had considered employing someone like Kishibe, Makima, or even Aki. However, at the time, the conflict between him and the [World Will] was too intense for such a thing to succeed.
Moreover, none of the aforementioned figures were actually suited for this role considering their personalities.
'Yeah, Yoru is still the best.'
However, just as Lorien was deep in thought, Yoru's voice suddenly rang out, instantly snapping him back to reality.
"Alright, I agree."
Hearing this, Lorien nodded, a pleased smile spreading across his face as he responded.
"Great! I am sure you won't regret it!"
It's just that as Lorien said this, most, if not all, of his attention was focused on the sky above.
However, fortunately for them, it seemed that the World Will didn't care about his 'petty' actions.
'Well, that went better than expected...'
