Chapter 50: The Queen's Labour
After assuring Rhaenyra that I would soon join her and Syrax in the sky, I sent her to her seat and began greeting everyone with nods and smiles. Once the greetings were done, I made my way to my usual seat beside the queen of this realm. Over the past two weeks, I've had more contact with Aemma than any other Targaryen, which has reinforced my belief in her genuine kindness, not just a facade for the realm. I've always had a soft spot for kind people, as they were a rare presence in my previous life. That's why I made the effort to spend time with her, to become acquainted and at the same time alleviate the mental fatigue from training by conversing with someone whose company I enjoy.
I absorbed all the conversations happening around the table, having little else to occupy my time. These discussions reflected the current state of the realm, with the Targaryens seeking to eliminate any Lords and Knights they suspected of betrayal without hesitation. As I listened, the servants began to serve supper, and eventually, we all concurred that it was time to eat before it got too late. Aemma urged everyone to pray and give thanks to the Seven for the food before us. Viserys concurred, instructing everyone to heed his wife's words. However, as they closed their eyes in prayer, I noticed that only three followed Aemma's directive, and Daemon openly grimaced at Viserys, making his disdain for the proceedings abundantly clear.
After done with the supper the wine is served and everyone started to enjoy the wine after hearty meal. Viserys told me that the Starks are closing toward the capital, and they would be here in week or less than that. But I am privy to that information since morning as Corlys has told me that already. Even then I nodded at him and resume what I was doing. After that Daemon and Rhaenyra started to tell me about their experience after riding their Dragons today as I have told me to do so to find out how much change does their bond with their Dragons has been done. After that nothing much impressive happened and I started to mute all of their talking and think about the time which I have left until Aemma gives a birth as after that the changes will begin.
After spending time with Daemon after the ritual, it's clear he is waiting patiently for his sister-in-law to give birth to his brother's child. Once that happens, he won't delay a day before mounting Caraxes to confront the Cannibal. Although the ritual I provided to the Targaryens isn't as potent as Laena's, it doesn't mean they won't undergo similar personality changes. They will be less affected than my fiancé, as their bond with their dragons wouldn't be as deep as Laena's. What I'm trying to say is that the ritual has slightly altered Daemon's personality, and since these changes stem from Caraxes, one can imagine their nature. While some are displeased with these changes, others, I dare say, are quite happy after finding out this, seeing Daemon's new anger as an opportunity for his enemies to exploit his mistakes.
After finishing my wine, I decided that retiring to my chambers would be the best course of action, as remaining here proved fruitless with the conversation holding no benefit for me. Opting for rest, I could awaken with renewed energy and vigor, necessary for the rigorous training ahead, reminiscent of my days on Skagos. Thus, I stood, announced my departure to my quarters, wished everyone a good night, and made my way, contemplating how swiftly time passes when one is engrossed in honing their magic or self-improvement.
One and Half month Later
Daeranyx POV
Standing on my balcony, gazing over King's Landing and its bustling inhabitants, time seems to accelerate when I'm immersed in refining my magical skills. This fascination with the arcane persists, fueling my eagerness to learn all I can about it. Reflecting on the past one and a half moons, I can confidently say that I've not only met but exceeded my goals. Glancing at the wall in my chamber, adorned with runes shaped like a door, I can't suppress a smirk. Among my achievements is the creation of a gateway between two places, accessible to non-magicians with my consent. While it may not be of immediate use, I foresee it as a significant advantage for my future empire. In a world devoid of rapid transportation, the ability to teleport will offer unparalleled benefits that I am eagerly looking forward to seeing it.
When I was about to enter through gateway which I have made someone knock the door of my chambers and after casting the vanishment spell on the runes I gave permission to enter whoever standing behind the door. One female servant which I know belong to Aemma's household enter with satin who is one who is usually guard the doors of my chambers. The only female in the quarters started to catch her breath and after done with that. "My lord, Que.. Queen Aemma is giving birth, and she is denying any help from Maesters, and she is repeatedly asking for you to be with her side and only then she will let any Maesters touch her. King Viserys has order me to tell you that you will have to reach there as fast as you can before anything bad happens." after telling me all of this in single breath she started to take deep breath again.
I instructed Satin to close the door after her recovery and forbid anyone from entering my chambers. Then, I hurried towards Aemma's chambers as quickly as possible, determined to keep my promise to protect her. On my way, I urged Vezofina, with whom I share a fragile bond, to join me swiftly. I suspected she might arrive before me, as animals often sense such situations in advance, and Vezofina is no ordinary animal. I believed she would already be there, or at least not far away. After rounding the corner, I entered the corridor where Aemma's room is located, finding many midwives and the grand maester, along with a few of his acolytes, pacing outside her chamber doors.
Upon hearing Aemma's scream, I quickened my pace, pushing the metal doors open with my own hands instead of waiting for the King's guards. As the chamber doors swung open, I was met with the sight of Vezofina, now the size of a small dragon, perched on the balcony railing, singing her healing songs to Aemma. Viserys was by his wife's side, holding her hand; she was in pain, yet it was evident that Vezofina's song was alleviating her suffering, which could have been fatal. Without hesitation, I moved to the opposite side of the bed, where the midwives were tirelessly working to comfort their Queen. When Aemma opened her eyes—previously shut tight from pain—she looked at me and managed a smile, and in her gaze, I saw nothing but relief and hope.
