A week later, Kai, Orihime, and Tatsuki found themselves sitting on the roof of the school after it had closed for the day, enjoying the peace and quiet. Snuggled on Kai's right, Orihime was feeding him one of her unique recipes, a combination of flavors that, despite their oddity, somehow worked together. On his left, Tatsuki lay with her eyes closed, resting her head on his chest and listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. For a moment, life felt perfect, and Kai couldn't help but smile as he enjoyed the company of the two girls who meant so much to him.
However, the moment was short-lived. Suddenly, Kai shivered, and both girls, sensing the change in him, tensed up, anticipating danger. Before they could react, a lackadaisical voice came from somewhere around them, telling them to calm down as there was nothing to worry about. Their eyes darted around, searching for the source of the voice, until they saw a peculiar man walking towards them with a unique appearance.
The man had shoulder-length, messy blond hair and wore a striped bucket hat that partially obscured his eyes. He donned a green and white traditional Japanese outfit with a matching haori and wooden sandals. His overall demeanor was relaxed and almost playful, giving off the impression that he wasn't someone to be wary of, but there was an air of mystery surrounding him that made it difficult to let one's guard down completely.
As the man approached Kai, he looked at him with a smile that never faltered. "Pleased to meet you finally, Kurogami-san," he greeted, his tone polite.
Kai narrowed his eyes, trying to assess the stranger. "Who are you?" he asked cautiously, not wanting to let his guard down too soon.
The man continued to smile as he responded, "My name is Kisuke, and I'm just a humble shop owner selling various items." He then gestured to the girls, adding, "I see you have some lovely company here. I don't mean to intrude."
Orihime, still feeling a bit tense, gave a small smile. "It's all right. We were just enjoying the evening."
Kisuke nodded, seemingly pleased with her response. "Ah, I see. I've heard quite a bit about you, Kurogami-san, and I couldn't help but be curious. Forgive me if I've interrupted your peaceful evening."
Kai, still wary but somewhat reassured by the man's easy going demeanor, responded, "No harm done. So, what brings you here, Kisuke-san?"
Kisuke tilted his head, as if considering the question. "Well, as I mentioned before, I'm a shop owner. I sell a variety of items, some of which might be of interest to you and your friends. I thought it might be worth paying you a visit."
Tatsuki, who had been silently observing the conversation, finally spoke up. "What kind of items do you sell?"
Kisuke's eyes sparkled with mischief. "Oh, a little bit of everything. Some might even call my shop a treasure trove of sorts. You never know what you might find."
Kisuke acted as if he had just remembered something and said with excitement, "Speaking of my items, one of my customers has been acting strangely lately. Do you happen to know her? Her name is Rukia."
Orihime's hand tightened around Kai's arm, but Kai looked at Kisuke without any change in his expression. "It depends on what you mean by strange," he simply answered.
"Well, first of all, she didn't mention you at all. That's strange, since you're a Shinigami too," Kisuke said, still smiling. "But the weird thing is, there's some sort of anomaly with her memories. I can sense that they've been altered."
"Oh, now that makes sense," Kai said, looking at Kisuke as if he was relieved. "I was chasing a tip lately, and you won't believe what I found."
"What is it?" Kisuke asked, excited.
"Well, I would love to tell you, but I spent months gathering this information, you see," Kai smirked.
"I'm sure we can come to an agreement," Kisuke said with a squint.
"You will stay out of my way and never question me again."
"Deal, but only if the information you give is accurate."
Kai grinned. "Well, there's a group of humans and ex-Shinigami called Xcution. They call themselves Fullbringers. They have strange abilities, and guess what one of them can do?"
"Alter memories?"
"Bingo. His name is Shūkurō Tsukishima, and if he cuts something with his sword, he can alter, read, and do weird stuff with memories. I would suspect that even I was affected at some point, but since I can rat him out, I guess I'm in the clear," Kai smirked.
Kisuke's eyes widened in surprise, and he leaned forward, clearly intrigued. "That's fascinating! And you believe this Tsukishima is responsible for Rukia's memory alteration?"
Kai nodded. "It's the most logical explanation. It's possible that Rukia encountered Tsukishima at some point, and he altered her memories. That must be why is acting weird."
Tatsuki frowned. "But why would he do that? What's his motive?"
Kai shook his head. "I don't know, but it's not something we can deal. I am sure Kisuke-san can deal with something like this, right?. If this Tsukishima can alter memories, who knows what else he's capable of or how many others he's affected?"
Orihime's eyes widened with concern. "That's really scary. We need to find him and stop him before he hurts anyone else."
Kai placed a reassuring hand on Orihime's shoulder. "We are too weak to deal with them, Hime-chan. Let's leave it to professionals."
Kisuke, still deep in thought, chimed in. "It's going to be difficult to track him down, especially since he can alter memories. But with your information, Kurogami-san, we at least have a lead. I'll do some digging on my end and see what else I can find out about this Xcution group."
"Thank you, Kisuke-san," Kai said gratefully. "Removing such a person would help society too."
Kisuke waved off the gratitude with a smile. "No need to thank me. It's what friends do, after all. And besides, I'm just as curious as you are about this whole situation."
After a little more chat, Kisuke took his leave, promising to keep them updated on any developments. As he disappeared from sight, Orihime looked at Kai worriedly. "Kai, you were the one who altered Rukia's memories, were you telling the truth about that Tsukishima person?"
Kai sighed and nodded. "Yes. I wasn't lying. Although it was I who altered Rukia's memories, now everyone will believe it was Tsukishima, and even Soul Society will go after him instead of us." He grinned, feeling a sense of accomplishment.
"But, doesn't that make us bad people?" Orihime asked, her brow furrowing with uncertainty.
Kai gently stroked her hair, reassuring her with a tender smile. "Hime-chan, Tsukishima and his gang are not good people, and Kisuke is not a bad person. What we're doing is ensuring our safety, and at the same time, helping get rid of a threat. It's a win-win situation."
Tatsuki, who had been listening to their conversation, spoke up. "Kai, I know you're doing this to protect us, but are you sure it's the right thing to do? What if we get caught in the crossfire?"
Kai's expression turned serious, and he looked at both girls intently. "I understand your concerns, and I promise you, I won't let anything happen to either of you. We need to trust each other and be strong. We'll face whatever comes our way, together."
Orihime's eyes shimmered with unshed tears as she looked at Kai, her heart swelling with gratitude and love. "Kai, I trust you. I know you'll always protect us."
Tatsuki nodded in agreement. "Me too. We're in this together, no matter what."
Kai pulled them both into a tight embrace, his heart swelling with determination. "Thank you, both of you. I promise I'll do everything in my power to keep you safe."
As they sat there, wrapped up in each other's arms, they couldn't help but feel a sense of unity and strength. They knew that the road ahead would be filled with challenges and danger, but as long as they had each other, they would face it head-on, no matter the cost.
