I’ve Changed My Job From [Sage] to [Thief]

C27: The Haunted Castle (1)

“Grave robbing? That’s not a job for a thief.”

“Don’t be so quick to reject it.”

At his favorite diner in the royal capital of the Slayer Kingdom, Kagehiko is being asked a favor by Sana. At the moment, Kagehiko and Sana were the only two people in the restaurant. Since it was not mealtime, there were no other customers, and the man who owned the restaurant had gone out to buy something.

“This is a pretty big job, you know! Please think of it as helping me!”

Sana, wearing a waitress uniform, puts her hands together and bows in worship. She works as a waitress in a diner during the day, but she is actually an agent of the Dark Guild that works in the shadows of the Slayer Kingdom.

The Dark Guild and Kagehiko – the Phantom Thief Shadow – have a cooperative relationship, and from time to time they bring him trouble like this.

“Even so……disturbing the sleep of the dead is unromantic and unacceptable. I’ve never missed a visit to the grave.”

“The graves are already half ruins! There’s something romantic about treasures lying in ruins!”

“Hmm…….”

Kagehiko took a sip of his tea and pondered.

Excavating ruins sounds romantic, but the place Sana designated was a place that had been inhabited until about 50 years ago.

Sablona Castle was once the residence of the noble Sablona family. The Sablona family was destroyed in a war with a neighboring country, and the castle was abandoned. It is now a magical cave where people who died in the war are wandering around as ghosts. A number of adventurers have gone missing while searching for the treasure that the Sablona clan is said to have hidden.

The request was to find and steal the treasure in the haunted Sablona castle.

“I gave you the info on the items the other day! Let’s keep it mutual!”

“Hmm, that’s a feeble way of putting it, but……who in the world would want the treasure of a haunted castle?”

When Kagehiko asked, Sana shook her head in annoyance. Her hair, which had been tucked in on either side of her head, swung around in time with the movement of her head.

“I can’t tell you the client’s name! But I will say that……was once a resident of that castle.”

“Hmm?”

It was fifty years ago that Sablona Castle was abandoned. He must be very old to have lived there.

(It’s been too long since I went to retrieve something. It’s an interesting request. Very interesting.)

“The reward will be 50% of the requested amount, minus the information fee for the items. If you are dissatisfied, you can have my body……”

“I don’t want it. But I’ll take the job.”

While cutting off Sana’s words, Kagehiko agreed to the dubious request.

“It’s been getting hotter lately. It’s not a bad idea to test your mettle a little early.”

“Hmph………..”

Kagehiko patted Sana’s head, who was puffing out her cheeks in frustration for some reason. The plan for the weekend was to have a test of courage. The location was decided to be the haunted Sablona Castle.
