Chapter 542: Chapter 548: I Want to Be a Good Person! (Third Update)

When Yang Zhen and the lowly cat swaggered into the middle of the crowd, everyone was dumbfounded.

Fang Zhongjian and Lu Tianwei looked at each other, especially Fang Zhongjian. He stared at Yang Zhen with a face of anger, “There are so many of us here. Isn’t he afraid?”

Lu Tianwei nodded and said, “It seems like he really isn’t scared!

“But why…” Fang Zhongjian was stunned, “On what grounds?”

After a moment of thought, Lu Tianwei slowly answered, “Because when he runs, we can’t catch him.”

The corner of Fang Zhongjian’s mouth twitched; though these words were humiliating, it was indeed a fact. Among the crowd in the Mountain and River Ruins, despite most people’s cultivation being higher than Yang Zhen’s, none could bring him down.

Yang Zhen could burrow into the ground, and he was extremely fast at it.

Dear Lord!

There was a creeping sensation as if something was quite off about the situation.

Fang Zhongjian glanced at Master Tie who continued to break the seal and turned to Yang Zhen, his voice stern, “Yang Zhen, the Mountain River Academy Ruins are not a place for you. If you misbehave here, you will not only offend one person but three Great Sects, which you cannot afford to annoy.”

Yang Zhen nodded, “I understand.”

Fang Zhongjian was taken aback. He looked at the equally confused crowd around him. It was clear that no one expected Yang Zhen to acknowledge this so easily.

Damn it, if you knew, why did you still come?

Nobody present believed that Yang Zhen came to such a place just to be a spectator.

Wherever Yang Zhen went, trouble invariably followed.

The she-devil chuckled and swayed her slender waist as she approached Yang Zhen. With a smile, she said, “Little guy, we meet again.”

Yang Zhen was polite as he nodded to the she-devil, “Hello, Miss.”

The she-devil looked surprised, her face filled with delight, “When did you become so good with words?”

Maintaining his ‘I-am-a-good-boy’ expression, Yang Zhen replied, “Me… I’ve always been courteous, and I always speak the truth. I despise dishonest people, so I never tell lies.”

Hearing this, the crowd’s eyes twitched incessantly.

Dislikes liars?

And never lies?

Nobody would believe these words. Among those present, save for the chubby and ugly cat, who could surpass Yang Zhen in lying?

The she-devil had a suspicion in her eyes but kept a constant smile on her face, her attention was on Master Tie, though.

It was evident that the she-devil hoped for Yang Zhen to cause trouble. The bigger the trouble Yang Zhen stirred up, the safer it would be for Master Tie.

What no one knew was that Yang Zhen wasn’t there to cause trouble this time. He was as low-key as a gentle and polite scholar who appeared as weak as a chicken, truly embodying the saying “as useless as a scholar.”

Fang Zhongjian didn’t believe in Yang Zhen’s act. He stared at Yang Zhen with a sullen face, not cooperating with Yang Zhen’s performance. He growled, “What are you really intending to do?”

Upon hearing Fang Zhongjian’s words, everybody present shivered and turned their gaze to Yang Zhen.

Although they couldn’t keep up with Yang Zhen and had no way to move freely through the rocks and soil like him, when it came to combat power, they could easily leave ten Yang Zhens behind.

Under everyone’s watchful eyes, Yang Zhen was not afraid, he even had an attitude of reducing his own prestige. To Fang Zhongjian, he said, “Fellow Daoist, don’t worry. What you’re doing doesn’t conflict with my business. If it wasn’t for my good brother who had an emergency, I wouldn’t even come back here.”

Fang Zhongjian and Lu Tianwei could’ve ground their teeth to pieces from the tension, yet they had absolutely no means of making a move on Yang Zhen. If Yang Zhen had not been causing any trouble, it would’ve been alright. But the moment they attempted to deal with him and he started to kick up a fuss, the delay would’ve disrupted Master Tie’s breakthrough ceremony. They would’ve been left powerless, forced to swallow the brunt of their anger. Almost hysterical, they gritted their teeth and said, “Curse you, what on earth are you up to? What kind of urgent matter could that scumbag cat possibly have?”

“Cough, cough, cough!”

The wretched cat lightly coughed. Its left paw was hidden behind its back and its right paw was balled up at its mouth. In an instant, it transformed into a polite and eloquent…cat!

“Honestly… some years ago, I buried a treasure here and the time to retrieve it has come. That’s all there is to it. Whether you’re breaking the seal or harvesting the Tiaoist Origin Fruit or even refining the Mountain and River Map, has absolutely nothing to do with this.”

“Scoundrel!” Fang Zhongjian roared, pointing at Yang Zhen, “Is this the urgent matter you’re referring to?”

A group of people glared angrily at Yang Zhen, berating him left and right. Even the she-devil stared blankly at Yang Zhen, her eyes flickering with a bemused expression.

Lu Tianwei said solemnly, “Yang Zhen, this is the Mountain River Academy’s small sanctuary sealed by two defensive layers – all are remnants of the Mountain River Academy. There can’t be any treasure here! Do you really think we’d believe what you’re saying?”

“Exactly! Just look at the utterly absurd things you’ve done in the past. You say there’s a treasure here buried by you, so it must be so? I could also claim that all of Mountain River Academy’s heritage was left by me in the past.”

“Yang Zhen, don’t push your luck. If you continue to cause chaos, even if we can’t kill you, we’ll make sure you’re not treated kindly.”

“Even if you’re capable of hiding underground, it wouldn’t matter. Just try to crawl into the seal and see if you’re able to crawl back out.”

Fang Zhongjian and Lu Tianwei led the people from Heavenly Spring Sacred Land and Heavenly Snow Holy Domain and surrounded Yang Zhen and the wretched cat. They were almost spitting from the intensity of their anger.

The cat could barely contain itself. Its eyes wide, it cursed, “Damn, I told you what was up. Even if we don’t cause a ruckus, they still won’t believe me!”

Yang Zhen shook his head and said, “Don’t get angry. We have to be reasonable. If they don’t listen to reason, we can always resort to fistfights.”

The cat sneered and climbed up Yang Zhen’s leg to rest on his shoulder, muttering discontentedly, “Go ahead and reason with them. Call upon me when it’s time for a fistfight.”

Yang Zhen nodded and said cheerily to Fang Zhongjian and the gang, “Dear fellows…”

“Pah! Who’s your fellow? Yang Zhen, everyone says you’re a tough nut to crack. Now, with the disciples of our sacred lands in front of you, aren’t you just as weak?”

Among the Heavenly Spring Sacred Land disciples, one scoffed, “Is this treasure you claim to have buried a result of you living for tens of thousands of years?”

Mocking expressions flickered in the eyes of Fang Zhongjian and Lu Tianwei. Lu Tianwei’s, in particular, was laced with confusion. He couldn’t understand why Yang Zhen had suddenly become so meek. The Yang Zhen of the past would’ve never offered up so many explanations.

At this moment, Yang Zhen inhaled deeply, “Don’t tell me you truly don’t believe the words of this Sao Saint.”

Fang Zhongjian burst into laughter, “Do you really think anyone believes anything you say? Yang Zhen, stop pretending. To me, you’re nothing more than a pathetic joke.”

The others gazed at Yang Zhen, gloating in his predicament. The she-devil looked at him, her eyes filled with uncertainty, murmuring to herself, “He’s really tolerating all of this. Is Yang Zhen…just eccentric with a childish mentality?”

Nobody noticed Feng Lingqiao, behind a rock not too far away, her face a livid shade of green as she considered standing up to confront the crowd.

Just then, Yang Zhen heaved a sigh. The sound sent a shiver down everyone’s spine.

“Indeed, everyone is inherently selfish. The world is as black as a crow. Nobody can say anything about anybody else!” Yang Zhen slowly began to walk towards Master Tie. Over his shoulder, he said, “Truthfully, this time, I, Sao Saint, truly just wanted to play the good guy!”

Everyone felt a shiver of unease creeping over them. They had an inexplicable sense of foreboding about the situation.

To everyone’s shock, Yang Zhen began to walk step by step up to Master Tie. In Master Tie’s bemused state, Yang Zhen slowly entered into the sealed zone. Everyone gasped in surprise.

“This… it’s impossible!”

Buzz–!

The surrounding area reverberated for a moment. In front of Master Tie, it seemed as if a Heaven and Earth Seal had been activated by Yang Zhen. Waves of terrifying energy from the seal radiated outwards, causing the entire seal to abruptly become frenzied.
