Chapter 32: Bothersome lady
"Now, if you'll excuse me," Axis said, politely excusing himself from the dining hall, or so he thought.
A few minutes later...
In the library...
"Are you not going to read the picture books?" Mathrilda's voice broke the silence.
Axis didn't respond, his eyes scanning the text in front of him.
"What about those storybooks over there?" she continued, undeterred by his silence.
...
"Instead of reading 2nd circle spells..."
...
"If you're going to read about mana, why not start with the basics?"
...
"Come on, don't ignore me."
After a while, she spoke up again, "You've been sitting there reading spells and analogies for an hour now."
Without looking up from his book, Axis finally responded, his tone soft but firm, "Would you pipe it down, Aunt Rida? It's common sense to stay quiet in the library."
"Finally, you spoke," she said, chuckling. "But why aren't you reading the basics? It's not wise to ignore them."
"I'm not reading them because I've already finished them," Axis clarified, cutting her off mid-sentence.
"Ahh! I see," she laughed again, clearly amused. "Have you tried casting any spells?"
"No."
"Why not?"
"I've read about them, but applying them is different altogether. That's why I'm reading to see what I can actually do."
"Good choice. I've seen many children get hurt trying to cast spells when they don't even know how to circulate mana properly," Mathrilda said, nodding in approval.
"I've tried mana circulation and had some success," Axis admitted.
"You did?" she asked, surprised. "Why don't you show me?"
"Sure, let me finish this book first, then we can go to my room. I don't want to ruin any books here."
A few minutes later, after finishing his reading, Axis closed the book and stood up. "Let's go," he said, leading the way out of the library. Mathrilda followed closely, her curiosity piqued by the prospect of seeing just how far Axis had progressed on his own.
Axis closed the door behind him as Mathrilda entered his room.
"Sit anywhere you like," Axis beckoned, settling himself on the bed.

Mathrilda chose a chair near the window, sitting down gracefully. "Alright, show me what you've got," she said, her tone a mix of encouragement and curiosity.
Axis took a deep breath, closing his eyes for a moment as if centering himself. The room grew still, and Mathrilda's gaze sharpened as she felt the subtle shift in the mana around them.
Focusing on the mana, Axis began to circulate it. The energy swirled around him violently, like a storm brewing in the air. But within that storm, there was a calm—an eye where the mana did not dare approach, maintaining a respectful distance as if acknowledging his control.
The mana only drew closer when Axis willed it to, slowly entering his body and following a predetermined path. This path had been opened previously by the skill, but now, without its guidance, Axis had to exert more effort to keep the flow smooth. The mana surged through his veins, spreading to his limbs, lungs, brain, and finally reaching his heart, where it began a new cycle, becoming more refined with each revolution.
{Ding...}
...
Though he heard a soft chime in his mind, Axis didn't dare stop, knowing the dangers of an incomplete circulation. He remained focused, guiding the mana with precision until the cycle was complete.
...
'Well, well, well... the boy's more monstrous than his mother,' Mathrilda mused, observing Axis's control. 'It's been barely a day since his awakening, and he's already circulating mana like someone who's been doing it for a year. And without any guidance too...'
