Interlude: Angel and Undead
Inside their own room, Athen and Enna were playing chess against each other. And Enna was winning by a long shot.
"You are supposed to be thousands of years old! How the fuck are you this good at chess?!", Athen was about to pull her hair out, glaring at the Fallen Angel.
"I was a loner... fuck, that sounded depressing as fuck... I didn't have many people to talk to, so I played a lot of games with myself.", Enna placed a piece down, smuging, "And checkmate."
"Damn...", Athen sighed, "You are really good. Why don't you become a Grand Master?"
"How the fuck am I going to hide these?", the Fallen Angel opened her black wings, flapping them with an annoyed face, "The Church is gonna call me out and maybe even start a fucking crusade!!"
"The Church has no power as of right now.", Athen explained while setting up a new game, "As long as Italy and Romania still exist, the Vatican can't start a Crusade with the approval of those two."
"What? The Holy See is weakened?", Enna frowned, "I thought after the fall of the Roman Empire they basically had all the power in Europe?"
"Yeah, Silla happened.", Athen rolled her eyes, "After I joined the Babel Organization, I got some bits of history. Basically, Silla destroyed half of Britain under the rule of the Church, something about proving their power is ineffective against Satan herself, and she sent fear down every soul in Europe as she would hunt Christians down and torture them."
Athen finished setting the game, and they began to play while chatting.
"I thought fear is what the Church used to sell faith, it should've boosted the Church.", Enna played the opening act, glancing up at Athen.
Athen played her piece, "Yeah, I thought so too. Things changed when Silla, in her own words, "Helped the non-believer", and set an example to Christian. That bitch is pretty much-living history, she was in so many events it isn't even funny. And now her current role is Abigail Sillacro, the Sentinel of the West Coast."
"Didn't the Church have their proof of faith? The Angels that they summoned and use the Angelic Armaments.", Enna sent out a knight.
"They do have that, but only the Vatican and Israeli have access to them. People with a rank called Paladin can use the Angelic Armaments, but as the Sephirots are limited, only 300, the Church can't do much.", Athen cracked her neck, pushing a pawn up.
"Since the Fall of Heaven, or Revelation as humans called it, there are no more Angels.", Enna pushed out her bishop.
Athen sent out her queen, "When was Revelation? I can't recall."
"In the year 666.", Enna stated as she castle.
That made Athen roll her eyes, "Typical, why is that number so special anyway?", she took Enna's pawn with her queen.
"I don't fucking know! The big fucker upstair thought it was a funny number or something.", she takes Athen's queen with her knight.
"Damn, didn't see that...", Athen clicked her tongue, "It's like the number 69 or 420 to God?"
"To me, yes. But I Fell before that, so I was chilling at Pandemonium or going out having fun killing Demons.", Enna smiled happily, remembering the relaxing times.
"You have an interesting backstory, meanwhile, I'm just a war orphan. I fought and fought, going through many hardships with the people who called me friend... until they backstabbed me when I became a Gem Holder.", Athen sighed, pushing another pawn up.
"But you survived, correct?", Enna sent out her other knight.
"Yeah, my Devil let me revive every time I die. Killing me is impossible and containing me is even harder.", Athen smirked.
"By the way, how is Charlotte doing?", Enna asked.
"She's fine... for the most part, I don't think she would get herself into trouble with the house arrest right now..."
That made Enna pull out a phone, "Yeah right, she took a girl up to the penthouse.", she showed Athen the security image of Charlotte sitting next to an Asian girl, clearly uncomfortable.
"WHAT?!", Athen flipped the board, enraged, "WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU JUST SAY?!"
Enna casually rolled her eyes, "Charlotte brought a girl home."
"WHEN?!"
"I don't know, but I gotta say, this Charlotte knows how to pick up ladies.", she grinned in amusement, "Damn, she is gaslighting the poor girl into becoming her friend."
"How do young know that?", Athen came next to Enna, viewing the footage with her, "And how do you have this?"
"First question, I can read lips, basic Angel Shenanigans. Second question, the Boss gave this to me yesterday dinner."
Last night, Athen stayed with Charlotte, carrying her to bed while keeping an eye on her, she skipped dinner. While Enna was having the time of her eternal life, enjoying fancy foods while exchanging 'greetings' with the other people at the table, ironically, she would fit the role of a politician just fine despite being the embodiment of Heavenly Rage.
Athen just stared at the Fallen Angel, "Okay, what did I miss?"
"A few confessions and suggestions, wanting you or me to join the gang or something." Enna picked up a rook, "Though I don't think you would like it, tables will be flipped."
"Athen, you should go to an anger management class."
Athen sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose, "I don't trust therapists, and the only therapist we have is Van Gogh, she's a bit creepy, too caring, and apologizes a lot."
"Maybe I can help you with it.", Enna gave Athen a kind smile, "Even the embodiment of Heavenly Rage can overcome her anger, then why shouldn't you?"
"You know what is strange?", Athen sighed, looking into Enna's hazing golden eyes of the Fallen Angel, "I just don't get surprises anymore, in this crazy world where there are monsters lurking in the jungle, corpses of divine beasts in almost all nations, and the goddamn fairies."
She shuddered a bit, "How the fuck did England exist at all with those fucker around?!"
"This I actually know.", Enna smirked. It only feeds the Ashen Undead's history curiosity.
"Do tell."
"You know Morgan Le Fay, right?", Athen confirmed with a nod, "Yeah, half human half fairy, the rightful owner of Britain and all of that shit. She made a deal with the sleepy head, Oberon, bringing back his wife from the dead in exchange for leaving her people alone."
Athen remembered the history of Queen Morgan Pendragon, the most powerful mage in the history of Earth, and of course, her brother, the man who wielded the Sword of Light, Excalibur, Arthur Pendragon. The two of them stopped the invasion of the Saxons entirely, passing down many artifacts to help the next generations.
Then Athen realized, Silla was powerful enough to razed have the country to ruin. Even against the Broken Sword of Selection, Caliburn, the Pandemonium Princess was still stronger...
"The House of Pendragon is still around, so that deal is still up and running.", Enna held Athen's hand, "Now that answers your question, let's just sit back and enjoy the skit."
