Chapter 420: Anna's Jealousy, Zara and Nova

Zara and Nova warmly smiled. "Amon is a very nice name, no matter how slightly scary it sounds," Zara said as she extended a hand. Nova did the same, which led to Azmodeus reciprocating the greeting and returning the handshake.

Off to the side, Anna was grumbling for reasons unknown. However, when they stopped touching each other's hands, her mood became better. She walked in between them and widened the distance. "That's enough of that; we haven't finished signing up just yet, so why don't we get back to that?" she said smilingly as she dragged away the confused Azmodeus.

Zara and Nova giggled knowingly. "By the way, Amon, my name is Zara," said Zara with a lovely smile. Nova also chimed in, saying, "My name is Nova, and I think you are interesting. Maybe you want to grab a drink some tim—" Before she could finish that question, a dangerous feline glare penetrated her soul, causing her to break out in a cold sweat. "Jeez, I was just kidding," she mumbled defensively with her lips puckered in helplessness. To which Zara chortled before looking at Anna's subtle interactions with the usually silent crimson-haired man.

"You think she actually likes him?" she asked softly. A look of keen interest formed on her face as she glanced over and saw the same look on her friend's face. Nova answered, saying, "I don't know anything for sure, but out of all the men that girl's been around, this is definitely the one she interacts most genuinely with. You know as well as I do that she tends to hide her true feelings behind a mask. Only with us does that mask crack a little, but even then…" She went silent.

They both sighed while shaking their heads, then they trailed behind the pair that had already started talking to the Receptionist. In their hearts, they hoped that their friend had found a true one — someone who could help that mask crack all the way. And in a way, their hopes would come true, but Azmodeus was not doing what he was doing for other people. First and foremost, there were benefits, then it was what those benefits would do for him.

In the end, all that really mattered were loot and benefits. Simply put, progression was both the journey and the goal. It had been this way since the very beginning, and it was very likely that it would remain this way until the end of time.

After a few minutes, Azmodeus and the girls finished signing up for the Duo Tournament. It would begin bright and early the next morning, so they didn't have much time to prepare. Still, it wasn't like they needed to prepare much to begin with. Anna sharpened her skills, but that was more because she wanted to function at full capacity, especially when she had to look and perform her best in front of a certain someone. Not that she would openly admit that, of course…

As they left the Registry Building, Nova turned to the side and saw Azmodeus walking with that same indifference about him. "So, what were you doing before you got here, Amon?" she asked, curious. To which she received a dangerous glare from the possessive purple-haired beauty. Ignoring it cheekily, she continued with saying what she was originally going to ask. "You don't seem to be from around these parts, and according to the rumors, you got in without any prominent connections, using just your own hard work and efforts." She would be lying if she said this aloof man's existence didn't intrigue her.

Anna pouted and grumbled, but it wouldn't make very much sense if she interrupted such a basic question being asked. Moreover, she was also extremely curious about where Azmodeus came from and how he ended up deciding to join the Academy.

Azmodeus's brows furrowed at this question. He couldn't exactly disclose why he came here. After all, that would mess up a great many parts of his plan. Then again, lying to the girls was also not a very good choice. Getting oneself wrapped up in too many lies would only make everything unravel, eventually leading to disaster.

Ultimately, he figured out what he should say. "I have come from a very small and unknown land to the far south, and upon understanding that this land was only resurrecting my growth, I left. And after a long, drawn-out journey, with many eventful circumstances, I found myself here, in the Eternal Jade Academy, on the borders of the Lands Unknown."

"As for why I came here — well, my goal has always been to improve myself in any way possible. And this Academy, along with the Eternal Jade Sect, was the best way I could go about accomplishing that."

"Oh?" Zara grinned. "You're quite the mystery man, aren't ya? And you seem to be interested in the Eternal Jade Sect. Am I to assume that you wish to find a way into the Eternal Jade Palace above?" she asked as she pointed upward, clearly speaking about the massive floating place levitating a few dozen miles off the ground.

Although surprised by the blonde beauty's astuteness, Azmodeus's face remained neutral as he followed along the finger of the Headmaster's daughter. "You would be correct in that assumption. One of my short-term goals is to make it into the Eternal Jade Palace." Experience tales at m v|l e'm,p| y- r

Zara's grin curved into an alluring smile. "For a mystical place like the Eternal Jade Palace to merely be a short-term goal… Just what sort of monumental plans do you have in mind~?" She inched ever closer to the mysterious man, which quickly led to Anna snorting as she got between them and glared at the friend that was certainly up to no good. To which Zara giggled mischievously, with Nova right behind her in that endeavor. "Boo, you're no fun at all," Zara murmured. Another glare came her way, but she ignored it all the same.

Nova took the lead in the conversation as they descended a flight of stairs.
