Chapter 24
"I can't think of anything. Come back to me." I said after racking my brain for 'Would you rather?' questions.
Shanice exclaimed. "Ouh I have a good one! Let me go."
"Ok. Give it to us." Yuka said.
"Would you rather fight a hundred chicken sized zombies, or a zombie sized chicken?" Shanice asked.
Huh?
"The chicken sized zombies. You can easily run them over with a car." Aliya gave her answer.
"Brutal..." Shanice murmured.
"I would rather fight a zombie sized chicken since a hundred chicken sized zombies is an overwhelming amount of zombies no matter the size." Emma explained.
Only the finest of logic from the top info dumper of Coraline Miller's.
"That makes sense. I'll go with that." I said.
"Me too. One over a hundred." Yuka added.
Shanice nodded. "Pretty solid responses."
"Do you have your question ready, Jocelyn?" Emma asked.
I was still thinking. "Hmmm."
Would you rather die drowning or die of rat based plague? No, that's too dark. I don't want them thinking I'm weird.
I tapped the table quietly while I asked my question. "Would you rather be hated as yourself or hated as a character? Like if you were say an actress."
I don't know where I'm going with this...
"That's a hard one." Yuka said.
Everyone across the table looked stumped.
Didn't think I'd be the first one to bring a deep question to this game.
"I'd rather be hated as someone else. That way I would get the peace of mind that they don't hate my true personality..." Emma explained.
The bookish girl looked down at the table as if embarrassed. "I-if that makes sense."
I nodded. It made sense to me.
"But, then you would have to be that character whenever out. That would get really annoying." Aliya explained.
Shanice and Yuka nodded.
"That is a good point." Emma murmured.
"I would rather just be me. Completely." Yuka said.
"Same." Shanice added.
"Do you all mind if I ask mine next? I don't want to forget it." Aliya asked.
"I don't mind." Yuka said as something seemed to drop in the kitchen.
I heard someone curse in either French or Italian.
"Would you rather go on a date in New York or Paris?" Aliya asked.
"Paris. Easy." I said.
"Yeah, Paris. I've heard too many bad things about New York." Yuka explained.
"Rats..." Emma shivered.
"New York. I want to try the pizza." Shanice said and then looked up as if dreaming of it.
Aliya laughed. "Answers I expected."
I looked at Emma beside me and asked. "What's your question? I'm curious."
She took a deep breath and gave us her question. "Imagine this: You're a bird. Would you rather go with your flock for the winter or stay with your mother and help keep her warm in the nest?"
"..."
"Flock." We all said in unison.
In sync again.
"What about you?" I asked.
"I'm not too sure." Emma admitted while looking deep in thought.
Yuka pumped her fist above the table "My turn."
"Would you rather have a Popeyes or a Taco Bell built into the cafeteria?" She asked.
Really, this again.
"Hold on. The waitress is coming." Aliya noticed.
Yuka looked like she deflated in her seat. The waitress made it to our table and handed us our drinks.
After handing me my drink, the waitress giggled to herself. She then told us the food will be out soon and then left.
Yuka looked at me with a smirk. "That waitress is totally feeling you, Jocelyn."
"She has been giving me a look." I said.
"Do you think she's cute?" Yuka asked.
"Yeah. She's cute. I like her hair and...her accent." I automatically said feeling dread as I continued on.
I slowly looked to my left. The green-haired tsundere had a neutral expression as she fidgeted with a napkin.
I turned my head back towards the other side of the table.
"Wait, so you and Emma aren't a thing?" Aliya asked, pointing at the two of us.
Hearing that me and Emma's eyes got wide.
Do we look like a couple to the average onlooker!?!
Emma laughed nervously, her face now a little red. "J-Jocelyn...No. There's nothing between us. We're just friends at best."
Friends at best...
I put my right elbow on the table and leaned my head on my hand.
Friends joke around.
I shut my left eye and murmured "That's not what my neck would say..."
Aliya and Shanice gasped.
Emma's face was now strawberry red as she scooched down the booth and pointed at me. "I don't know what delusions you dreamed up Friday night, but that's not what happened!" Emma exclaimed.
She took a deep breath and stood up. "I'm going to check on our food..." The bookish girl muttered.
She then stormed off.
I cursed.
