Chapter 0 - prologue
Prologue: I’m Not a Trash Character
The “Sensarte Graveyard” is a story instance dungeon that appears midway through Act 2 of the main storyline.
It’s a place where players farm level 30 equipment and repeatedly linger to refine the options they desire.
For this reason, unless you had close friends, it was typical to clear the dungeon using party matching. Like most others, Hyunwoo queued up while lazily surfing the web.
Dwoong—
With the sound of a successful match, Hyunwoo felt his vision blur.
After a brief loading screen that wasn’t disorienting, he arrived in the dungeon’s entry lobby.
He glanced at the other players who had been matched with him: an axe, a greatsword, a dagger, and a magic staff.
Hyunwoo’s gaze, initially focused on their weapons, wavered momentarily.
It landed on a girl with strikingly long, straight hair that had a faint reddish hue.
Her round eyes left a strong impression. She seemed a little short, but her figure was well-proportioned, accentuated by a cheongsam with side slits that emphasized her curves.
Finally noticing the weapon at her waist, Hyunwoo saw it was a curse blade.
Was it her charm that captivated him? A man wielding a greatsword stared at her for a moment before speaking.
“What’s your build?”
?
Hyunwoo mentally added a question mark of his own and checked her character information.
Her main weapon was the curse blade. Along with the magic staff, it was a ranged weapon with high difficulty of control but versatile enough to adapt to most situations.
It was part of a class colloquially referred to as “Exorcist,” whose typical build revolved around lightning-based abilities.
The conventional way to develop this class was to enhance its core traits up to three times.
However, what caught Hyunwoo’s eye was:
[Trait Tree: Lightning ─ Frost ─ Reflect ─ Destruction / Awakening: Specter]
“This is the strongest curse blade build.”
Her slightly sharp tone carried little weight, given her soft features. But no matter how Hyunwoo looked at it, the build seemed suboptimal…
“Ha, seriously, why are there so many trash characters these days?”
“I’m not a trash character! This building is seriously strong!”
“Exorcists who don’t max out Lightning 3 are just garbage, aren’t they?”
The exorcist girl’s face started to turn red at the remark. Then came more insults from the greatsword guy.
“Your trait tree’s just a random mashup of skills. You’re basically a trash character.”
Hyunwoo couldn’t help but agree a little. The class, “Exorcist,” already had a bad reputation.
Taking a deep breath, the exorcist girl exhaled sharply and, with her small lips, said:
“Ugh… If you’ve got a problem with it, want to duel for DPS?”
Her voice carried a hint of clenched teeth.
Normally, this would be prime popcorn entertainment. But in recent chaotic matchmaking, this was all too common.
It typically ended with both parties blocking each other and going their separate ways.
As the argument unfolded, the more perceptive players quietly left the lobby. Only a man with gauntlets, apparently in the same guild as the girl, remained, chuckling as he watched.
Hyunwoo had seen something amusing and someone pretty. That was enough for him.
He left to queue for a new match.
