Chapter 90: Chapter 92: Can’t Beat Human
A well-built red-haired youth rushed into a classroom at lightning speed.
He kicked open the classroom door and charged at the bone monsters in the classroom before they could react, swiftly breaking their spinal bones with the wooden sword in his hand, then knocking them to the ground.
The youth's movements were as agile as a well-trained hunting dog, but his moves seemed a bit chaotic, lacking any semblance of order.
However, with the youth's skill, dealing with these slow-moving monsters was already more than enough.
Bang!
In an instant, the last monster fell to the ground, and the youth had already defeated all of his enemies.
"Cut!"
Shinji shouted through the megaphone, "Shirou, well done!"
"Thank you."
Shirou smiled as he took the towel handed to him by a production assistant and wiped the sweat off his face.
Creak, creak
The Dragon Tooth Warriors that Shirou had knocked to the ground made the sound of their joints rubbing against each other.
Soon, these fallen soldiers reattached their severed bodies.
"Thanks for your hard work, everyone."
Shinji wasn't surprised by the eerie scene, but instead smiled and greeted the few figures on the floor.
Creak, creak
The Dragon Tooth Warriors, now with their bones reattached, climbed up from the classroom floor and awkwardly saluted Shinji and Shirou.
Then, they received a basketball from the staff and walked out of the classroom in line.
Shirou twitched his mouth and said, "No matter how many times I see this scene, it always feels very strange..."
These Dragon Tooth Warriors were naturally provided by Medea, and to facilitate Shinji's filming, Medea even gave these guys the lowest level of intelligence and infused them with Shinji's blood, allowing Shinji to easily control them.
Originally, according to Medea's idea, these Dragon Tooth Warriors should have obediently followed Shinji's commands like robots.
But whether it was due to Shinji's inherent foolishness or not, these Dragon Tooth Warriors, once activated, immediately gravitated towards the realm of absurdity.
It was quite eerie that they played basketball every day after filming, and even more so that they managed to break their bones (literally) every time they played.
Whenever Shirou saw these guys crushed to bits on the basketball court and then slowly piecing themselves back together, he couldn't help but pinch his cheeks to try to stay awake.
"Yeah, these guys are kinda cute once you get used to them," Shinji mused, chin in hand. "Uh, what's it called... Ah, right. Ugly cute."
"I still don't get your point," Shirou shook his head in denial.
"Alright, forget about these guys. Let's take a look at your performance," Shinji said, dragging Shirou to the post-production room next to the classroom set.
After editing the footage a bit, Shinji played back the shots they had filmed over the past two days for Shirou.
If there was one major difference between UBW and HF and the two movies Shinji had previously filmed, it was the sudden increase in screen time for Shirou Emiya, a regular human.
Engaging in physical combat with Servants was probably something only the clueless Shirou could do.
In fact, Shirou himself thought he was pretty dumb in Shinji's script.
But even dumber were the Servants he fought against.
A Servant actually lost against a regular human in combat? What the hell were they doing?!
However, regardless of the script, it would be quite challenging for Shirou to personally take down Servants.
Plus, Shirou wasn't an action star or a martial arts expert, despite his training with Kiritsugu. He was still far behind those Servants.
So, to cover up Shirou's shortcomings in combat, Shinji had to cut the scenes as much as possible to avoid long fight scenes.
Seventy percent of the action scenes Shinji had filmed before were between Servants, and this time, due to the actors' lack of skill, he had to force the cuts, which really tested his editing skills.
'Oh well, let's just consider it practice in editing,' Shinji consoled himself.
At the same time, to help Shirou improve as quickly as possible, Shinji basically filmed a segment, roughly edited it, and then showed it to Shirou, pointing out areas for improvement.
"It feels really dumb," Shirou commented as he watched himself stumbling and falling in the monitoring room.
"Yeah, at this stage, you're still a rookie and need to show some immaturity," Shinji nodded. "Overall, it's about eighty percent of what I imagined..."
Upon hearing this, Shirou couldn't help but ask, "Eighty percent... Does that mean I need to reshoot?"
"No need," Shinji shook his head, patting Shirou's shoulder. "It's enough for a TV series, but you still need to keep working hard."
After hearing this, Shirou rolled his eyes.
"By 'keep working,' you mean my fight with that arrogant guy, right?"
"That's one of the most important action scenes in the whole series. The quality of those scenes will determine the lower limit of UBW," Shinji reminded him with a smile. "But don't feel too much pressure."
"After hearing you say that, how can I not feel pressure? I understand why Tohsaka always contradicts you now."
Shirou could tell that Shinji, with his thick eyebrows and big eyes, wasn't a kind-hearted person.
In the past few days, Shirou Emiya had been in great shape, and the filming of the school battle in UBW had gone smoothly.
Shirou's progress in action scenes was astonishingly fast, so much so that Shinji was starting to feel a bit jealous.
Although they still had to rely on quick editing to cover up the problems, just putting on a show for the audience should be fine.
"Is this the true power of the protagonist's halo? I understand now why this guy evolved into a monster comparable to a Servant in less than a month in the original work."
Watching Shirou in the studio engaged in a chase battle with Rin, Shinji couldn't help but sigh.
Seeing Shirou in such good shape, Shinji decided to modify the filming schedule.
Originally, Shinji had planned to shoot a few more action scenes to give Shirou some practice, but now that Shirou was doing so well, he decided to shoot some dialogue scenes first.
This wasn't about balancing work and rest; it was about allowing Shirou to immerse himself in the role faster, helping him understand the mindset of Shirou Emiya in the UBW story.
Only then could the classic duel between Shirou and EMIYA be filmed excellently.
Although the scene portrayed a battle between Shirou and EMIYA, it was essentially a conflict of ideologies between the two.
So, just having fight scenes wasn't enough; the dialogue scenes interspersed between them had to be excellent too.
On this point, Shinji wasn't too worried about EMIYA's performance. This guy had been wanting to chop off Shirou's red hair since forever, even in this parallel world's version of "Shirou Emiya."
What Shinji didn't know was that EMIYA himself felt a bit awkward about it.
Shirou's projection magic was so mediocre that it was a miracle if he could project a weapon and hit once without it shattering.
With such skills, Shinji couldn't let Shirou use his own projected weapons for filming, so apart from shots of him projecting swords, other scenes either used props or the Noble Phantasms projected by EMIYA.
As a result, Shirou suffered quite a bit. Filming action scenes was never easy, and bumps and bruises were inevitable.
And with EMIYA "accidentally" using excessive force, Shirou had a rough time, even spraining his ankle during one action scene.
Fortunately, the injury wasn't serious, and coupled with Shirou's young age, it wouldn't affect the upcoming filming too much.
This was one of the reasons why Shinji had to change the plan and film dialogue scenes first: the lead actor was injured.
Shinji's admiration for the Servant actors grew even more. While ordinary people needed several days of rest to recover from injuries, as long as their Core wasn't damaged and they had enough magical energy, Servants could even regenerate limbs like Namekians.
On set, Shirou stood alone in front of the camera, preparing to shoot today's dialogue scenes.
Strictly speaking, although these shots were of Shirou Emiya and EMIYA's confrontation, they were more like a monologue by Shirou Emiya.
"Before this..."
In a room set up to resemble Einzbern Castle, Shirou stood alone facing the camera.
His expression remained calm, but his eyes burned with a flame called determination.
"I did not become a Guardian for this." EMIYA replied through gritted teeth, even though it was just reciting lines off-camera to help Shirou get into character, his tone was so intense that Shinji was afraid he might actually charge at Shirou and chop him down.
"Then we are two different people," Shirou replied, his eyes focused on Archer.
"What?"
"I will never regret my path. I won't regret it, no matter what happens."
Shirou walked slowly towards the camera, his firm voice like a lion just waking up.
"So… I will never approve of you."
"If you say you're my ideal, I'll destroy such an incorrect ideal with my own hands."
"Cut! That's a wrap."
Shinji said to Shirou Emiya, "Well done! Very well done, Shirou."
"Not at all."
Shirou smiled modestly, then quietly complained to EMIYA behind the camera, "I thought you were going to charge at me and chop me to bits."
EMIYA shrugged with both hands and smirked.
"The likes of you are not worthy of it."
"What do you mean by that?" Veins on Shirou's temples pulsed.
"Well~ A guy whose ideas were borrowed doesn't have the right to make me take action," EMIYA sneered.
'As expected, Archer, you actually still yearn to become the Hero of Justice you once were, right?'
Shinji shrugged.
"What did you just say!!"
Shirou angrily rolled up his sleeves and retorted.
"Haha~ You two really have a great relationship."
Shinji covered his mouth and chuckled.
"In what way!?!"" *2
Shirou and EMIYA simultaneously rebuffed.
