Chapter 18.1
A venomous man in his early twenties, with a distinctive look, was descending the stairs of the mansion.
“It’s been a while since he showed his face at home. And the commotion is all because of this brat?”
His tone of speech was particularly harsh.
“Where did you pick up a bone filthier than the Skeleton King?”
Suddenly, Isaac, reduced again to a mere bone, squinted his eyes.
Who is that man without hair on the top of his head?
Who is this youngster, not even a hundred years old, daring to glare so insolently…
“Older brother.”
Ah, it’s my uncle.
Isaac’s angelic face contorted.
They didn’t resemble each other.
At first glance, Lilai had silver hair, but that uncle with no hair on top… right, the fierce-eyed uncle had brown hair.
If there was any resemblance, it was their blue eyes.
But that wasn’t the only difference.
Lilai slightly resembled the Saintess Melissa, but this rude-faced man looked nothing like her.
If there was any resemblance…
‘…The Pope?’
While it was faint, Isaac felt a bit uncomfortable inside.
It wasn’t just because the Pope was from the opposing faction.
However, the rude-faced man seemed displeased with his nephew, glaring at Isaac.
“Put that down. Send it to the annex.”
Lilai’s straight gaze turned fierce, similar to when he heard the name of the Skeleton King.
Things seemed to have changed from the moment he referred to his nephew as ‘that thing.’
Ironically, the ‘thing’ was supporting the rude-faced man.
‘Right on, well done.’
Given a choice between the two, Lilai, who had come for him, was better. But in the current situation, he appreciated the man wanting to send him to the annex.
‘Yes. Just take me away and confine me to the annex!’
Hurry!
That would get rid of this crazy uncle!
However, the rude-faced man seemed reluctant to lay a finger on his nephew, scoffing instead.
“Put on a real show, giving something like that to a brat who can’t even distinguish between objects.”
The rude-faced man was more interested in what Isaac held.
He clearly didn’t like the white and blue gemstone decoration Isaac possessed.
No, it wasn’t just dislike.
It was a look of envy.
Isaac couldn’t help but find this strange.
This gem was given to him by Lilai.
A mineral he liked because of its rarity, which could fetch a price higher than regular gold.
Still, it was just something the crazy uncle had given to a child.
Why would the Duke’s son be envious…
“Handing over the rare white fossil, of which only ten exist in the world. Was he so special just because he’s the son of the eldest brother?”
I take back calling him crazy.
Isaac’s eyes widened in surprise and darted to the gem.
For a good reason, the White Stone!
Among the world’s three most precious minerals, the White Stone stood out in all aspects: characteristics, aesthetics, and rarity.
And the so-called ‘Tears of God’, or White Stone, not only had a fittingly high price, but its effects also astounded Isaac.
Although it might not be essential in the holy faction, for Isaac, it was an invaluable item. Even in terms of price, it was equivalent to the wealth of an entire house.
While Isaac didn’t know how Lilai obtained it, it made sense for the rude-faced man to be envious.
‘It’s not just a level of gold ring, after all.’
Isaac, who now held the uncle in even less regard, hid the gemstone in his mouth.
He wondered why such a precious thing was given so freely, but he couldn’t let it be taken away.
As soon as Isaac placed the gemstone in his mouth, the surprised rude-faced man unintentionally reached out, but then crossed his arms, glaring even more fiercely.
“Why did you bring that trash here in the first place? Even into the main house? Who gave you permission?”
Is that guy a priest or a thug?
Lilai seemed too much like a paladin, which was off-putting, but this one just seemed like a thug.
And that’s not all.
[Ugh, these damned priests. Daring to exhibit holy power in front of the Master? Should we hang them both like Saints?]
Stop that, I don’t feel like being hanged.
Isaac, being highly skilled, was sensitive enough to detect even the slightest hint of energy.
To be honest, at this point, what they’re exuding to each other is not divine power, but Survival.
It was unimaginable that they could be brothers.
But why? Why on earth would they act like that when they’re siblings?
“Why are you making a scene when everyone else is quiet, especially when you’re the youngest?”
“Then, will you leave the child with Eshua’s blood alone?”
“I was going to send an attendant even if you hadn’t come.”
“Oh, you intended to send him to the monastery, didn’t you?”
“Is there a problem with that?”
“There’s a big problem! He’s our nephew, the first son of the head of our family!”
“First son? Damn it.”
Ah, I see now.
These guys are a soybean powder-like family*. (tl/n: means an abnormal, dysfunctional family whose members don’t stick together. )
Isaac looked up at the sky, avoiding reality.
Should I just return to the imperial palace now?
Before he turns them into dust, they’ll probably scatter on their own.
‘Well, for me, as long as my physical body remains, that’s enough.’
Of course, whether they get blown away by the wind or a typhoon, it doesn’t matter.
The problem is that until he gains power, these people are his family and guardians.
However, that realization made the Skeleton King oddly angry.
No matter how dysfunctional the family, treating the innocent eldest son’s child like this is crossing a line…
“Yes, the eldest son’s child is good. But because of that eldest son, the family was on the verge of ruin.”
“What?”
“Why, don’t you know? The eldest son abandoned the family, causing the support to cut off, almost ruining our name. And now, his child?”
The one crossing the line was his father.
The Skeleton King didn’t fully understand, but he could guess why he was treated like an illegitimate child.
“Why should we take in that child born from a lowly woman whose lineage we don’t even know?”
And now, this bastard is starting to cross the line.
Asili widened her eyes in shock, and Lilai seemed to share the same sentiment.
“Watch your words. There was never a time when the family was close to ruin, and our sister-in-law is a Saintess in this generation.”
“Huh, right. Since you were especially close to the elder brother and the Saintess, I understand why you would have affection for that trash.”
“!”
“So, the companion bore another son? In the end, neither as a Saintess nor as the eldest son, she didn’t fulfill her duties, right? Well, the children of the real wife, or rather, the Saintess, are just like that.”
“Brother.”
“That kid, looking worthy of the Saintess’ lineage, should be sold off as Eshua’s seed. Yes, he should be of some use to the family at least.”
With that, Lilai covered Isaac’s eyes.
At the same time, Lilai’s fist flew towards his brother’s face.
“Have you finished speaking now?!”
“Aargh! Stop him!”
“Young master! You shouldn’t do this! Ah!”
[How dare these filthy priests insult my King! I’ll kill them all!]
As the fistfight broke out, the attendants and knights rushed in.
Even Whisper, who was just listening, tried to charge in, believing the master had been insulted.
Seeing this, Isaac looked up at the blue sky again.
Ah, it might be quicker to kill the Pope on my own rather than becoming one with these people.
‘Maybe I should revive all the power cores in the annex and escape?’
“Why? Didn’t you think I would know you brought the child to push him as a candidate for the Saint? Don’t forget that we already have a Saint candidate in our house! It’s thanks to us that Eshua has maintained his lineage!”
“Brother!”
It was then.
“Will you not stop?”
“!”
With an irritable voice, a blue bolt of lightning fell between them.
A stranger, an old man with an unfamiliar face, looked at Isaac.
“The head of the family has ordered for that child to be brought.”
