Chapter 10.2
However, demons were a more resilient race than he had anticipated.
‘I should have destroyed the magic core as well, even if it was a pity.’
No matter how high-ranking priests killed and processed them with perfect methods, as long as the magic core remained intact, there was always a possibility of resurrection.
In other words, they were like fossils that were still alive.
Of course, even if there were corpses, they couldn’t be revived in general, so such things were safely traded.
But that was only the case when dealing with ordinary opponents.
‘Just regret taking it out in front of me.’
The Skeleton King, the immortal king of demons.
If he couldn’t revive even a foolish seed, could he dare call himself the king who had revived demons for hundreds of years?
‘Since you wanted to eradicate the demons so badly, go ahead and try as much as you want.’
Whether intentional or accidental, the incident of demons being unleashed in the Emperor’s temple was a grave matter. The responsibility for it couldn’t be avoided.
Sure enough.
“Bishop Berit! What have you done!”
The hastily organized imperial paladins used defensive spells.
A blue flash transformed into the form of a soaring eagle, enveloping the Emperor and the prince.
Thud!
However, as if it wasn’t an ordinary demon, the disgruntled imperial paladins raised their voices.
“Has the Bishop lost his mind? How dare he join hands with such a high-ranking demon! What is the Papacy plotting!”
The Bishop furrowed his brow with a sense of injustice.
“Don’t jump to conclusions! It’s not that I released the demon, it resurrected on its own!”
“Resurrected? What on earth…!”
“A totem! It’s said that the totem has been revived!”
“A totem? How can a dead demon possibly come back to life!”
With eyes that conveyed disbelief at the incomprehensible statement, the Bishop, feeling even more frustrated, peered into his bag.
‘A dead demon couldn’t have broken the exorcist’s seal on its own and escaped. What on earth…’
That’s when it happened.
The Bishop’s eyebrows shot up as he stared at the bag. He sensed a strange energy lingering inside.
‘The energy of magic?’
It was undoubtedly it.
And it wasn’t just ordinary magic, but demonic magic…
In an instant, the Bishop’s gaze turned sharp and focused on the Skeleton King.
‘No way, that little brat!’
He had pretended to use defensive spells earlier, but it seemed like he was secretly using magic again!
This time, resurrecting the demon, even though he didn’t know how!
The Bishop’s eyes became fierce.
‘I must report this to the Papacy!’
Was it going to be overlooked like this?
Whether it required the involvement of interrogators or the knights directly under the Pope, an investigation must be conducted!
‘I will summon the Inquisitors and subject this arrogant demon spawn to divine judgment!’
The Bishop, filled with personal emotions, was about to grab the Skeleton King by the neck, but then it happened.
-Wooo!
The unleashed demon heated by the defensive spells of the paladins let out a chilling cry.
The temple shook, and the eerie black magic threatened even the Bishop who was far away.
Thud!
“Ugh!”
At that spectacle, the corners of the Skeleton King’s mouth rose uncontrollably.
How pathetic! Powerless little brat!
It was all thanks to that demon fulfilling its role.
It was the first time seeing that kind of demon, but it could probably be classified as 5th or 6th rank.
For it to move to that extent within the temple, it was quite a formidable high-level demon.
Naturally, the individual who made it into a totem must be a considerable high-ranking clergy. Making a totem out of a demon was more difficult than annihilating the demons themselves.
And seeing it become so enraged right after resurrection, it seemed like it held significant grudges against the clergy…
-Kill the Saint. Kill the Saint!
…Pardon?
The voice uttered by the demon distorted the Skeleton King’s face.
‘Wait, who are we supposed to kill?’
That was the moment. The furious demon and the Skeleton King, who had been restless, locked eyes.
‘!’
As if the demon had finally found its target, a crimson glow flashed from beneath the hood’s shadow.
The creature lunged at incredible speed while spewing out flesh and blood.
-Kill the Saint!
Damn it! Why is this provocation directed at me again?
“Young master!”
The stern imperial paladins rushed towards the Skeleton King. The priest holding the Skeleton King quickly evaded the demon and ran in the opposite direction.
“Indeed, he is targeting the Saint!”
“That treacherous and despicable Skeleton King! He must have ordered his subordinates to kill the Saint!”
Damn it, I’ve never given such an order!
I’m supposed to become the Saint from now on and take over this country, but why the hell would I kill myself?
Am I the king of suicide? No, I never had a hobby of harming myself in the first place!
The Skeleton King furrowed his brows.
Come to think of it, someone mentioned that some scoundrel said something strange after being captured by a priest.
Apparently, it was something like ‘The Skeleton King has ordered all demons to kill the Saint.’
That statement seemed to have some truth to it.
‘But who would dare impersonate me?’
It couldn’t be the work of his subordinates. If it were, they would never issue orders using his name.
Well, that’s not the most important thing right now, though.
-Kill the Saint! Save the captured King!
As the demon reached out to eliminate him, the Skeleton King sighed.
To recklessly attack without distinguishing between friend and foe.
What a foolish creature.
In an instant, the Skeleton King’s gaze turned cold.
It was that moment.
Eyes that resembled a gem of crimson blood emitted a chilling light as if opening the path to the evil eye.
It wasn’t magic.
The ‘eyes’ were the first gateway to perceive the world. It was merely channeling magic through the eyes to flow into the opponent.
And through that, it clearly discerned who held the upper hand.
It was a kind of hierarchical determination among demons to determine superiority.
No sooner said than done.
Zing!
-?!
The demon flinched heavily as if startled by something.
