I'm Female Lead In Their World: Living in the High School of the Dead

Chapter 27: CHAPTER 27

Niikaz tilted her head slightly, her gaze sharp as she observed the direction where Takuzo was firing. Her lenses glowed blue, zooming in like robotic eyes to capture the scene on the other side in high definition. As her enhanced vision focused, she spotted Hisashi's group being surrounded by a horde of zombies.

(Ah~ this is when they first meet up with Takashi and Rei, regrouping before they rest at Marikawa-sensei's friend's house.) Niikaz simply stood still, certain they'd be fine on their own.Kazu hurried toward Takuzo, curiosity shining in his eyes as he leaned forward, trying to get a better view.

(But wait... was the horde this big in the anime? As far as I remember, there were only about ten zombies—not a massive group like this. Why are there so many bodies? What's different between this world and the story I know?)

Niikaz frowned, her thoughts clouded with frustration. It was the second time events had diverged from the story she knew. (Why does everything keep changing...? What's going on here? Could this world be completely different from the anime and manga?)

Unable to ignore her rising frustration, Niikaz activated her system with a thought. Her eyes glowed as data, images, and text appeared, scanning rapidly as she processed the information like a computer program. To others, it looked like she was tapping the air in a strange, rhythmic gesture, invisible screens flickering before her.

(This needs a little modification...) She smirked slightly, fingers tapping swiftly. The system, a creation of her own design, was something she knew inside out—its strengths, its flaws, and how to fine-tune it for better performance.

Yet, no matter how deeply she searched, no data matched the current situation. In the anime, only a handful of bodies attacked, not this overwhelming horde. She folded her arms, deep in thought. Maybe it's because there are more people here? Or is it some change I overlooked?

"Niikaz, what should we do right now?" Yamada called out.

"Try aiming at one of them," Niikaz instructed Takuzo. He nodded, quickly aligning his eyes with the gun. Once steady, he fired, the shot piercing through one of the undead effortlessly.

"Ah, just keep firing at the undead. Hisashi and the others should be able to handle themselves,"

Niikaz replied, glancing at Hisashi's position. Not far off, Takashi and Rei sped toward the group on a bike.

"It—it's Takashi! They've reunited with Hisashi and the others!" Takuzo shouted, pausing his firing.

"What? Takashi? Is he okay?" Kazu asked, a touch of relief in his voice.

"Y-yeah, looks like Takashi and Rei are doing fine. They're coming on a bike," Takuzo confirmed.

"Thank goodness. He and Rei are okay," Kazu sighed, visibly relieved.

"We should hurry and go meet up with them," Niikaz said. The others nodded in agreement.

Niikaz led them to the elevator, but halfway down the hall, Kazu stopped suddenly, turning back. Yamada, noticing, approached him with a concerned expression.

"Kazu, you okay, bud?" Yamada asked, his voice laced with concern. Though he didn't know much about Kazu, fighting together had shown him Kazu's bravery and loyalty. That was enough for Yamada to trust him.

"Yeah. Let's go," Kazu replied, casting one last look at the house before following.

Niikaz held the elevator door open until everyone was inside, and they quickly made their way down. Once outside, Niikaz looked up at the darkening sky. "It's almost nightfall; we need to pick up the pace." She spread her palms, light gathering and shaping into a gun in her grasp. Kazu and the others prepared their weapons as they pressed forward.

Meanwhile, Okada and Nishinoya gawked at Marikawa-sensei's house.

"W-Woah! It's huge!" Okada exclaimed, eyes wide.

"we are going to rest here with sh-shower!?" Nishinoya stammered, steam practically pouring from his head. Before his imagination could run wild, Takagi punched him on the head, snapping, "Stop fooling around! There are undead lurking outside!"

"Right, dear! There's still danger out there," Marikawa-sensei agreed as they hurried inside. Takashi, Hisashi, and Saeko swiftly cleared the area of any remaining threats.

"Takashi!" Takagi called, holding the door open as Hirano covered the area from a blind spot.

"Argh!" Takashi leaped at an undead, bending backward mid-air as he brought down an iron pipe, smashing the zombie's head with the force of his body weight. He barely had time to recover before spotting another zombie staggering forward, jaws wide open. Twisting to the side, he swung the pipe again, sending the creature flying.

Nearby, Hisashi repeatedly bashed a zombie's head, his mind recalling a close call from earlier that had nearly turned him into one of them. Saeko, already finishing her last rounds, wiped her wooden sword clean with a powerful swipe, sending blood splattering across the ground.

"Looks like this area's finally safe," Saeko noted, her calm voice slicing through the quiet. Hisashi let out a relieved sigh, wiping sweat off his chin.

"There were a few missing earlier... Where are Niikaz and Kazu? Did they stay behind?" Takashi asked, scanning the area.

"No, they'll catch up later. Niikaz said she had to take care of something first," Hisashi explained as they secured the gate and shut the door.

"I hope they stay safe," Saeko murmured, a note of concern in her voice.

Back on the Niikaz's group the situation is tense as suddenly, Kazu's scream tore through the air: "NIIKAZ, NO!!"

Blood spurted out, painting the area red as the scene descended into chaos.
