I Was Sold to My Mortal Enemy (Double Transmigrations)

Chapter 8

Pei Xing kept a close eye on Shi Yi, and he felt a sense of relief when he saw that Shi Yi was still somewhat dazed. He asked, “Why didn’t you stay on the boat?”

Shi Yi pressed his lips together, his voice tight, and replied, “It’s too boring. I just took Xiao Liu for a walk, and then…”

He didn’t finish his sentence because he couldn’t make sense of it. In the 21st century, as a man, he hadn’t been exposed to the idea of being abducted. While there was information about kidnappings on the internet, it typically revolved around women and children. Incidents involving adult men had been rare in the past 20 years of his life.

In modern civilized society, his gender had often served as a safeguard against many dangers, so the thought of being trafficked never crossed his mind.

Shi Yi realized that time and place had changed, and he hadn’t fully adjusted to his new identity, which had led to trouble. He felt too embarrassed to say more, so he lowered his gaze, softly apologizing to Pei Xing.

Pei Xing’s breath caught in his throat, and he gazed at the obedient person before him, his heart warming. His voice was slightly strained as he said, “No need to apologize. If you want to go shopping, I’ll accompany you from now on.”

Shi Yi complied meekly.

Pei Xing had never seen Shi Yi behave so obediently, and he assumed it was due to fear. He gently pulled Shi Yi into his arms, secretly kissed the side of his face, and comforted him in a soft voice, “Don’t be afraid; I’m here.”

The unexpected public kiss left Shi Yi flustered, and he shot Pei Xing an angry look. Worried that they might be discovered, he glanced around discreetly and sighed in relief when he saw no one paying them any attention.

With the tips of his ears turning red, he huffed, “I’m not scared. I almost beat those ruffians to death earlier.”

Xiao Liu, concerned that his older brother might be harmed again, wrapped his small arms tightly around Shi Yi’s neck. He called out for his third brother, pressing his little face against Shi Yi’s neck, shedding soft tears. Shi Yi felt a pang of sadness, kissed Xiao Liu a few times, and consoled him softly, “Don’t be afraid, my dear. Let Brother Pei seek justice for us.”

Pei Xing’s heart swelled with emotion. It had been two lifetimes since he had received affection from Shi Yi. But this little kid actually got the kisses first.

.

The porcelain seller, observing that someone had taken charge, approached to request payment. Pei Xing looked at him and inquired about the amount owed. The shopkeeper saw Pei Xing, who stood at an imposing nine feet tall with a commanding presence, and hesitated to ask for more money. He requested only the agreed-upon price.

Pei Xing, however, generously paid over ten taels of silver to compensate him. He then approached the officials who had been escorting the prisoners, giving each of them five taels of silver.

“Thank you all for your hard work. I sincerely appreciate your efforts in rescuing my wife.” Pei Xing saluted them. He glanced at the three traffickers and asked, “These traffickers had malicious intentions and attacked us in broad daylight. They seem to be habitual criminals. I wonder what their ultimate sentences will be?”

The officials were appreciative of Pei Xing’s generosity and spoke with a positive tone.

“In less severe cases, they will be exiled, while in more serious cases, they will face execution. Rest assured, our county magistrate is known for his strictness and won’t let these evil individuals escape justice.”

Pei Xing nodded, a cold gleam in his eyes as he approached the defiant man.

The burly man displayed no fear when caught by the official. His gaze fixed on Pei Xing was as sharp and venomous as cold, poison-tempered needles.

Pei Xing’s lips curled slightly; his eyes filled with scornful mockery.

The burly man appeared unable to withstand the gaze. He spat aggressively and attempted to rise. However, before he could stand, Pei Xing kicked him forcefully, sending him sprawling to the ground. It was a solid kick, impacting the man’s mouth and causing him to cough up blood and see stars.

Without any hesitation, Pei Xing used his full strength to stomp on the man’s groin. The man let out a wretched howl and lost consciousness.

When Pei Xing withdrew his foot, he noticed that the man’s crotch was stained with blood, which quickly turned red.

Upon witnessing this display, the onlookers fell silent, recognizing that this was not someone to be trifled with. They dispersed in fear of getting caught up in any further trouble.

The porcelain shop owner’s legs trembled, and he inwardly thanked his good fortune for not being overly greedy for money.

.

Shi Yi stared blankly at the unconscious man; his heart filled with a deep sense of bitterness. The discrepancy between people was so vast, such as the difference between himself and Pei Xing. In both his previous life and this one, he was crushed in terms of physical strength and intelligence.

After Pei Xing had dealt with the situation, he quickly ushered Shi Yi back to the boat. The early autumn weather brought chilly river breezes, and Shi Yi’s already weakened body had experienced emotional turmoil. He hadn’t taken more than a couple of steps before he lost consciousness, his vision fading to black.

Pei Xing scooped Shi Yi up with one hand and hurried aboard the boat with Xiao Liu.

The two people who had been completely disregarded could only watch the retreating figures.

“So heartless. He didn’t even say a word of thanks. Why did I save his wife?” the well-dressed young man complained with dissatisfaction.

The man in black glanced at him silently, pursed his lips, and said nothing.
