I Was Sold to My Mortal Enemy (Double Transmigrations)

Chapter 23 - II

Pei Xing hugged him, kissed him, and understood that Shi Yi was feeling a bit bored and wanted something to occupy his time. He thought about the work in the fields that afternoon and suggested, “Why don’t you join me in the fields this afternoon?”

Shi Yi was playfully kissed on the cheek and looked at him with a feigned expression of disgust. He went to wash his face to hide his embarrassment.

Pei Xing laughed heartily in the kitchen but gave Shi Yi’s words serious consideration. He thought Shi Yi could take up drawing or painting and sell comics in his bookstore. This way, he would have a worthwhile pursuit.

.

Most of the workers were familiar faces from previous years. They were pleasantly surprised to see a change in their meals this year. With the addition of mutton soup, they were even more grateful. In previous years, they were used to simple, mixed noodles while working in other places. Now, having hearty meals brought tears of gratitude to their eyes.

As soon as the food was served, the workers eagerly dug in. Sounds of satisfaction and appreciation filled the air as they devoured their meals. Aunt Hong had underestimated the demand for cold noodles this year, so she had to prepare an extra batch in the kitchen.

Chu Nan, who had finished two large bowls of noodles in quick succession, praised Pei Xing and even teased him about the power of the eight red lotus fruits.

Pei Xing responded with a calm demeanor, “If you’re interested, you can try it with your wife.”

Chu Nan coughed awkwardly, in fact, he wanted to but was concerned about Xiao Zhou’s ability to handle it.

Meanwhile, Zhouzhou, who was red-faced, was in the kitchen seeking Shi Yi’s advice on making braised noodles.

Shi Yi patiently explained the steps, and as he glanced at Zhouzhou’s shy demeanor, he remembered that this shuanger had given him eight red lotus fruits.

“Do you still have some of those red lotus fruits from last time?” Shi Yi asked casually. “I’d like to have more.”

Zhouzhou blushed and admitted, “I don’t have any, Young Master Pei told me to give them all to you. If you want more, you can ask him to pick them from the mountains.”

Shi Yi smiled subtly, knowing that Pei Xing had been the one to collect them in the mountains.

After everyone had their fill of noodles, there was still an abundance of mutton and pork soup left. Pei Xing asked Aunt Hong to distribute it among the workers and stored it in the ice cellar for them to take home in the evening.

After eating and resting for a while, Pei Xing led a group of people to carry the remaining three barrels of juice to the field.

Pei Xing’s 200 acres of land were not contiguous. He cultivated 60 acres himself and rented out the remaining 140 acres at a low price.

The 60 fertile acres he planted were connected together, and he grew a variety of crops, including peanuts, corn, soybeans, sweet potatoes, and potatoes.

Next to these 60 acres was a hillside, about 50 acres in size. Pei Xing had the land cleared and planted over 40 acres of cotton, with the rest being used for fruit trees, including five date trees, as well as hazelnuts and chestnuts.

In this rural area, there was no mechanized production; everything relied on human labor, with people bending over and working in the fields.

Shi Yi, with his family background, had experience working in the fields during his previous life. He also had an older brother who had pursued an undergraduate degree in agriculture.

.

Shi Yi rolled up his sleeves, ready to help, when Pei Xing playfully pinched his waist and carried him into the orchard.

“People need to pick these fruits. I’ll climb up later, and you can pick from below.”

With these instructions, Pei Xing elegantly scaled the tree.

Shi Yi took a cloth bag and began picking the fruit from below. He noticed that both bags were quickly filling up.

When Pei Xing gracefully descended from the tree, he accepted two full bags from Shi Yi, placed them under the tree, and then pulled him to sit down. “Take a break; don’t worry about the fruits.”

Shi Yi was indeed tired; his face was red from the sun, but his eyes were remarkably bright.

Pei Xing wiped the sweat from Shi Yi’s forehead and felt how hot it was. He rushed to take some ice, added it to the juice, and filled a bamboo tube with the juice.

In the meantime, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of Shi Yi, handing something over with a smile. Surprisingly, Shi Yi accepted it with a smile.

Pei Xing’s heart raced, and his expression changed as he hurried over.

As Pei Xing approached, he didn’t notice the presence of a girl standing nearby, holding a bamboo basket and gazing at him affectionately, preparing to say something.

Liu Yingying was taken aback. She didn’t expect to be ignored like this. She had always been proud of her beauty and had never experienced being ignored. She had set her sights on Pei Xing since she first saw him three years ago but had never approached him.

Now at the age of eighteen, her family had started looking for a husband for her. Her father, the village chief, had suggested Pei Xing. She had agreed, suppressing her excitement. Before her father could move, Pei Xing unexpectedly got married first.

Liu Yingying stared at the shuanger under the tree with her watery eyes, a hint of wickedness in her gaze.

It was just shuanger who couldn’t have children. When she married Pei Xing and had children, she planned to find an excuse to sell them out.
