Chapter 112
Virah looked up.
Jet flew so high that the Zubat was nothing more than a black dot moving around the sky, he was circling her currently and Virah watched in careful observation to ensure that her second Pokemon didn't over exert himself in the name of training.
'A lack of oxygen isn't really a problem for him,' Virah thought, she knew her Zubat was safe.
Still, the threat of Jet collapsing from oxygen depravation and falling from so high up was there and as a trainer, Virah could only feel concern at the thought of such a possibility happening to her Pokemon.
Virah continued to observe her Pokemon as he circled the skies, the Pokeball in her hand was there to ensure that if Jet did fall, she would capture him before he reached the ground.
'I'd just have to reduce his height limit for the next time,' Virah thought in consideration.
Jet, for all intents and purposes, would eventually start to go through scenarios like what he is currently going through.
Scenarios like him needing to hide while being in a place without trees and clear skies, thus necessitating the need for him to fly high, becoming nothing more than a black silhouette flying with the clouds.
Or that he's forced to be in an environment that lacks oxygen, like a room full of smoke.
His lungs getting used to the lack of oxygen would do wonders when the time comes and Virah deemed that his body would keep that adaptation and even improve upon it when he evolves into a Golbat in the future.
'I probably also need to train him to start getting used to places with little to no space-' Like a cave, 'or an area full of obstacles and obstructions,' such as forests and jungles.
Those two areas would be something that Virah would find herself commonly going to thanks to her journey, and should she find a Water Type, she'd also start to train Jet and Nitro to be able to function under heavy rain.
'Forests, Caves, Deserts, Mountains, Rain, Sandstorms, Harsh Sunlight, and Snow,' Virah mentally listed out with a considerate nod.
Those were all environments and weathers that all trainers undergoing their journey would have face and adapt to.
And it wasn't just the trainers, as their Pokemon needed to be able to fight despite such harsh environments and conditions, especially if they were going become professionals.
Pokemon fighting even with unfavorable environments and despite the harshness of all common weather set ups and is what separates "good" from "bad" and Virah whole heartedly believes in that fact.
Even then, she worriedly observed Jet's shadow as he circled above her, his training was harsh, but it was necessary, especially if he was going to become her personal scout.
Virah spent the rest of the day training her Pokemon and as the park closed for the night and people were going home, Virah went to a nearby pharmacy to stock up on her vitamins.
The day after tomorrow was when she, Whitney, and Grene would leave Goldenrod and officially start their journey and Virah would need to have a lot of vitamins, healing items, and berries available through the course of it.
She spent a good portion of her money, savings, and even the cash she specifically put aside for betting to buy a lot of the available vitamins.
She currently had a few months' worth for each of the six vitamins in her bag, but that's only when she's taken into account that she currently only had two team members.
Adding more would reduce that by two weeks to an entire month depending on the Pokemon.
With Jet and Nitro consuming a lot of Iron, Carbos, and Protein, Virah deemed that the next Pokemon she needed to catch was one that didn't use any of those, so either a Ghastly or an Oddish.
The former can be found aplenty inside forests during the night but at the same time, other Ghost Types are there too, upping the danger of catching them significantly.
Meanwhile Oddish can be commonly found in plains, forests, and even caves but the fact that there's so many means that she might need to go around Johto to find an Oddish with good traits.
'A Pokemon that has a high rate of breeding means that they're weaker as a species overall,' Virah knew that fact from the moment she started working as a helper around the breeding centre.
Going home, Virah dropped down on her bed with a satisfied sigh, Nitro and Jet were now resting in the building's nursery and by tomorrow, the two of them should have recovered enough to continue their training.
And speaking of training, Nitro learned U-Turn a few hours after Virah started tutoring him, it was an expected outcome and Virah couldn't help but feel pride at managing to breed such a prodigious Beedrill.
Her hard work had paid off in the form of Nitro, and with him under her belt, she's sure that she'd become a professional in no time.
Jet on the other hand was doing well, he came back down from his training exhausted and famished but that was normal.
After letting him rest and feeding him, Virah did a check up on him to conclude that nothing was out of the ordinary.
And since Nitro and Jet worked hard to train throughout the entire day, their trainer decided that it was now her turn.
Virah got up from her bed and walked over to her desk, she put down her notes as well as her Pokedex and started working on all her theories.
She wrote in the various things she learned earlier today and concluded with several answers for a few of her previous questions.
Confirmations were checkmarked, new questions were written down, and a few more theories got added into her growing pile.
Eggtech wanted her to be a micro biologist so topics such as Move Theory and Aura weren't- shouldn't be in her radar but they were, mostly because she deemed them interesting and also because they were relevant to her at the moment.
'I'd focus on micro biology once I'm actually under Eggtech,' Virah thought to herself as she closed her notes.
The progress that she's made today were small, and a lot of them were nothing more than confirmations for her theories but that was the point, after all, she set out today knowing that her priority were exactly these questions.
And the progress she made regarding them were good, they could be better, but that applies to a lot of things.
After sitting down on her chair for an hour, the exact thing that Virah needed to clear her mind was a shower, and she got out of the bathroom looking refreshed.
She sat down on her bed and as she started drying her hair, a thought occured to her.
'How's the slums?'
She knew that the people there didn't truly need her help, but her personal vendetta against Team Rocket didn't even involve doing that so…
… Was it fine for her to intrude on gang territory?
Right now the slums were starting to get tense, like a keg whose fuse has been lit, now it was only a matter of time before it blew up and things escalated.
And most of that happened because she continuously attacked Team Rocket.
She's gotten a lot of things from them because of it but what about the people living on the slums?
Virah frowned as she took her hair out of the towel and started blow drying it, right now they were most likely worried about the upcoming gang war because they'll most likely become the biggest victims of such an event.
And Virah, despite her refusal to feel empathy towards them, started feeling guilt at the thought of putting innocent people under such circumstances.
The poison specialist sighed and stood up, 'the least I can do is to make sure that Team Rocket falls down quickly and without much resistance,'
Decision made, Virah took out her notebooks from her bag and went back to her desk, she opened one into an open page while the other showed the list of items she got from all the weapons she scavenged from Team Rocket.
A book about engineering as well as one about electronics were placed on the upper most part of the desk, Virah opened the relevant pages and started reading with the tip of her pen pressed against the empty page of her notebook.
Drawing up designs for all sorts of gadgets couldn't possibly be that hard right?
